Ellie just flies along like usual, but she keeps an eye on her radar just in case anything else comes along.
"Hey Walt, did you hear anything funny while they launched you off the carrier?"

: Yep, it finally happened. That bomber broke the catapult. Ripped up some of the flight deck too, this is a mess!

On board the carrier, Cualli can see for herself the light (albeit potentially fatal, if sucked into an intake) superficial damage around where the catapult broke. Virvel sits in her fighter behind the ruined track, frustratedly tapping her helmet.

The group of trash planes barely makes it ten miles away from the Tordenskjold and the other airships before encountering a large group of South Aesthian aircraft.
: Look, enemy planes at two o'clock! Looks like some sort of bombing mission.
: That bomber is none of your concern. Your mission is to destroy that aerial fleet.
: None of our concern? That thing's flying dangerously close to our territory under heavy escort, carrying who knows what. A few of us could break off and-
: No. Two Aesthian carriers are flying by your coast with only two cruisers as escort, an opportunity like this will never present itself again. Leaving this force undermanned is a risk we will not let you take.

Based on how close the aging planes got before being detected, you can only assume that there is some sort of EWAR plane mixed in with the group, and you probably aren't seeing every plane taking part in the attack.


Enemy planes are currently at radar range.

Tarkirov is adamant about maintaining a schedule, and everyone is forced to launch without putting on any extra missiles or countermeasures. You are reassured that Kommandant and Virvel will be ready to launch in case of an attack, but a disturbing clanging and snapping sound heard from outside while launching the Condottiero leaves Walt to believe things may not proceed exactly as planned.

The planes being transferred group up in a protective formation around the Condottiero and set out over the sea towards Chlebek AFB, heading past the older-model carrier following just behind the Tordenskjold.

A mere two weeks later, Tarkirov returns aboard a slightly different model of Shikra than the one currently aboard. He notifies Mjolnir that additional specialized craft are on the way for the next campaign, and that space must be made for them on board the Tordenskjold. Its' current inventory is as follows:

Cualli stares at her food for a few long moments before finally pulling her tray closer to her and finishing her meal. As she goes to put her tray away, she spots Jaakko in the food line and picks up her pace, hoping he hasn't seen her. The last thing she wants right now is a confrontation.

She returns to Elu and stands beside him. Mentally, Cualli kicks herself for the state she's currently in. Why are you doing this to yourself? You should've eaten more, you should be working out, you should be taking better care of yourself, you shouldn't be like this.

"I want a distraction," she says to Elu, squeezing his shoulder gently. "Come on." Cualli makes her way to the rec room and takes a peek inside.

In the rec room, you see Walter in the corner doing what badger said, one of the new pilots playing cards with one of the Kintharians, and the other playing a video game Tippy brought on board with a crewman.
: I hate to say it, but you're just stuff at this game! And you're actually a pilot, too!
: Hey man, this isn't even remotely the same thing. Besides, I'd like to see how awake and alert you are after running combat drills for what was it, Coma, six hours straight? ...Oi! I'm talking to you.
: Huh? It didn't feel like that long.

Jaakko is a bit disappointed there's not anyone around he would talk to. He heads to the line to see what's to eat today.

The choice of entrees today is your typical carrier slop; shredded beef barbecue, chili macaroni, something that may be fish, and "sausage". By this point, the crew is starting to suspect that the mess hall food is just MREs slapped on aluminum cafateria trays.

Virvel enters the messhall and joins the line behind you.

Norum notices that Rog has followed him and turns to look up at him. "I noticed that you didn't take a bat or crowbar with you. What you got?"

Rog takes the giant chunk of barbwire-wrapped boat engine off of his backpack and starts dragging the head along the floor.

Cualli stares at the potato that's being held to her face, then at Elu, and finally opens her mouth. The potatoes are bland and tasteless in her mouth, but she realizes that it's more effort to fight Elu over eating than it is to just eat and get it over with.

Not about to be spoonfed in front of everyone in the mess hall, Cualli gently takes the fork and mumbles a "sorry" before picking at her food, eating small bites of it at a time. She gets about halfway through her small portion before laying her fork down on her tray, pushing the tray forward a few inches, resting her elbows on the table, and holding her face in her hands.

"I wish he were still here," she says quietly.

: I do too. He should explain himself.

And Jaakko goes to the mess hall and looks for familiar faces.

Along the way, you bump into one of Djuriskas' new recruits, back from logging a few more flight hours. She looks completely exhausted, and acknowledges your presence with barely more than a nod as you pass each other in the cramped hallway. When you reach the mess hall, you see Cualli and Elu are present, as is one of the Kintharian mechanics.

"I..." Cualli sighs. "Alright," she begrudgingly agrees and heads to the mess hall. She grabs a tray and puts a small amount of food on it (she might be depressed, but she's not keen on being wasteful) before taking a seat beside Elu.

Cualli stares down at the tray. It looks incredibly unappetizing and she makes no move to start eating.

Elu waits for a while, then takes the unused fork next to Cualli's hand, stabs a piece of potato, and pushes it up to her face.
: Eat the food.

"I remember seeing protests in Kintharia on leave. I'm sure the Imperium would love to 'civilize' the ex-Kintharian empire states to the north before they move on to 'civilizing' Kintharia,"

: Exactly!

Jaakko stares blankly at the TV.
"What a mess," he remarks, "No foresight whatsoever. At least a majority of them still understand."

: Yeah, well, let's just hope it remains a majority.

"I'm not really hungry," Cualli tells him, despite not eating breakfast that morning and barely eating anything for dinner the night before. She knows that she's supposed to eat and that she probably- well, more like definitely- needs to eat, but the thought of having to actually go and do such a thing sounds... overwhelmingly exhausting and, ultimately, pointless. She'll just end up hungry again later, so why bother?

: Aesthian servicemen and women require three meals a day to maintain physical health and fitness standards. You must eat.

"What's this?" Jaakko asks, moving towards Frisk to hear an explanation.

: Kinos wanna tap out.
: Yep. They don't see a point in continuing the war now that the Delta's been dealt with for over a year now.
: Idiots. If we were to stop fighting now without even giving the Imps a bloody nose, they'll just try to roll over us again a decade down the line.

Cualli has barely been leaving the crew barracks, save for work. Having just finished her shift in the hangar, she is getting ready for another evening of not leaving her bed, bearing the depressed, tired face that has become her default expression as she starts to leave the hangar.

: Do not forget to eat today.

Jaakko is getting up from a nap. In the recent days he has been dealing with the stress of his deployment as well as the bordem of the air carrier by sleeping more. He rolls out of his bunk and wipes away the sleep from his eyes. His dreams more recently had been uncomfortable, but not necessarily nightmares. A lot of almost getting shot down or injured, as well as a lot of extremely stressful situations presented themselves in his dreams, but when he woke up he couldn't make real world sense of them.

He slips his boots on and neglects to make his bed, planning on heading for the mess.

Frisk spots you exiting your bunkroom.
: Mornin' sunshine.
: Shh!

The TV the two of them are watching is showing a news report from Kintharia, whose population recently voted 44% for 56% against on a motion to withdraw from the GTO and negotiate a ceasefire with the Pact on their own.
