Ash's eyes open wide as he realizes the voices down the alleyway are speaking in Aesthian.

The voice in the radio seems to have heard you- "[He said hide! Now!]"

The soldier runs several meters away down the sidewalk and takes cover in the entrance to a storefront, leaving you standing alone in the light. At the other end of the alleyway, you see flashlights sweeping the ground.

As the response begins to crackle through the radio, you start to hear voices from down the alleyway you came through.
: There! I think we can cut across!

The guy in front of you doesn't seem to have heard them, focusing on the voice coming out of the radio instead.

Walt realizes that Virvel probably won't be affected by the whole 'but think of all the people you could save by risking your life' spiel and instead goes for something a little more suited to her. "You really want to pass up a chance to close the gap between our killcounts?"
Walt is met with silence. Unclear whether it's out of contemplation or irritation.

"Copy. Kobalt, we're going to finish off the Erovring and join the Tornados to finish this,"
Jaakko turns back towards the formation.

Now back in missile range of the Erovring.


Ajka takes a few seconds to line up a firing solution before blasting away at the Flanker with her PPCs.

Sweat pours down Ash's temples. Without making any sudden movements, he puts his hands above his head.
"Don't shoot! I'm not a combatant!"
He looks at the soldier pointing the gun and tries to figure out which side he's on.
The soldier carefully backs away into the light, keeping his gun pointed at you- a gun you are able to identify based on the wood construction and short magazine as being an old semi-automatic. Probably even older than your father, and definitely older than the person holding it. The soldier's uniform is unrecognizable to you; a bulky looking brown flak jacket over grey fatigues, with a positively archaic metal helmet and bevor to protect the head and neck. On a strap across their shoulder is a radio set not unlike what you'd see on a street cop.
: Put your hands behind your head, and stand slowly up.

The words come out quietly, and in an accent thicker than nutrient paste.

: We are mopping up the last of the Aesthians now. Tornados from Brunaz, Grao, and Gelorauth are ready to attack.

Ash's heart rate jumps as he immediately ducks into the closest alleyway.
"Don't shoot! Don't shoot!," He cries out.
Another six shots snap past the opening to the alleyway you're hiding out in, giving way to hurried footsteps. A soldier, too backlit by the lantern for you to discern anything more than his silhouette, cautiously rounds the corner, scanning the alley with his rifle readied. His sights quickly settle on you, and he freezes.

You barely get out of the glow of the lantern before hearing a deafening crack in your right ear. Then, another, followed by a spark flashing on the asphalt several meters in front of you as a third projectile goes whistling past.

".. Sorry Colonel, I'm going to have to agree with Crash," Lorens chimes in, looking out the canopy to the rest of his flight, "If we regroup with the main formation, the enemy fighters will only wear us down till we can't fight. It's either now or never."
: Yeah! Let's just charge in there, where we're outnumbered by airships with guns the size of our planes, and die!

Ash's heart skips as beat as he hears the thunderous noise behind him. Relieved that it wasn't actually a warhead going off, he continues running towards the light source at the end of the street.
You step into the light at the end of the street- apparently, the owner of a storefront neglected to turn off a gas lantern hanging outside in all the commotion. The street you find yourself on now is wide enough that you cannot make out just how far across it is to the other side, and in what you assume to be the middle of the street you see the faint glint of metal rails. A thunderous roar to your left draws attention to a surface to air missile, launching from a side street a few blocks down.

Scorch sees a green flash directly ahead as he comes out of his evasive loop and shuts his eyes, bracing for the worst- but when he opens them again he sees two gouts of green flame spraying out either side of his adversary's fuselage.

Ash rolls back his left sleeve to check his watch. Daylight is another three hours away, the dial reads. The pale green glow of the tritium markings serves as the only visible light source in the neighborhood. Unsure of how long he has, Ash tries to forge East, to further distance himself from the metropolis and the bombers' flight path. He attempts to recall any landmarks he might've sighted on the way down.
The poor lighting conditions made it quite difficult to determine any landmarks on your descent- the only sources of light you saw were a result of anti-aircraft fire. A brief burst of gunfire here, a sustained laser beam there, and one instance of a missile launch from what you'd guess couldn't be more than two minute's run east from where you planted your feet- this being before you began to wander.
Try as you might to head east, the road ahead begins curving north. A possible alternate path presents itself in the form of a narrow alleyway to your left that seems to cut across southeast, with what looks like a dim yellow light on the other end. Lastly, there is a tremendous crashing noise as something impacts with the ground some distance behind you, around the bend to the west. The fact that it didn't explode means that it may be an escape capsule or downed plane- or just a piece of debris.

Several thousand feet below, Ash is looking for friendly forces. Being a pure blooded Mercanan city slicker, he would have thought that navigating from street level would be no problem, but he's found himself hopelessly lost. Rather than the ordered grids he is used to back home, the Gothic capital city is a bizarrely disorganized labyrinth of winding cobblestone streets and footpaths occasionally crossed by actual asphalt-paved roads that don't appear to go straight in either direction the few times he's found one. Twice, he's found what he can only assume to be entrances to underground mass transit, but both times they have been locked down tight. The mandatory blackout hasn't helped navigation in the slightest (not that he'd be able to read the signage anyway), nor has the repetitive concrete architecture, and the air raid sirens howling through the endless concrete halls around him are enough to drive one mad.

Crash and Virvel end up the only ones getting off scot-free.

The Valnad continues along its sharply descending trajectory until its wing strikes windowless skyscraper rising high above the streets below. The building's top ten or so stories are smashed to rubble instantly as the airship's wing is sheared from its fuselage, the rest of the plane tumbling a few degrees and colliding nose-first with another high-rise, scattering both the building and itself across several blocks around the point of impact.

Continuing on this flight path will put you in missile range of the Chernetok and Temnabog next turn. The former is currently breaking apart under heavy PPC fire and shouldn't be giving you much trouble, but the latter has been untouched since its run-in with the last squadron of Imperial planes, and still has most of its weapons online.

She deploys a chaff packet for Snowman to take advantage of at his earliest convenience.
"I see the chaff, I'm weaving in on you now," Lorens swerves the Tornado into the chaff cloud and dispenses another packet of his own before jinking to defend the SAM.

The Foxbat drops a missile and begins turning around to join the rest of its unit in retreat. Hardly a maneuverable plane, it only succeeds in presenting the largest possible target profile to you.

Markus pulls up near-vertically and punches the afterburners to get out of the lock circle, then levels out.
Oxcart-8 releases an active-radar missile, and you have just separated yourself from your teammates.

Now at missile range of the Foxbats, but most of them have turned around and are accelerating in the opposite direction. You are currently gaining on them, as they had slowed down to give themselves the longest time at-range, but it is only a matter of time before they can get up to speed and leave you behind.

Walt stays on course towards the bombers, waiting to enter gun range.
Lorens pulls the wings back in to full sweep and slams the power lever. He regroups on the flight and continues flying towards the cruisers.
Kobalt begins catching up with the Drone wing that was sent in advance of them, which is currently taking most of the AA fire. Two drones are lost to SAMs.

Skytracer deploys a chaff packet to prevent a lock.
Markus flies into Skytracer's chaff cloud to avoid any locks.
Almost all of the Foxbats break off in pairs and start turning tail. No. 7 and 8 stay the course, the former firing a missile at Ajka.
