Coming out of the evasive maneuver, Scorch notes, with some concern, that his airframe has decided to fall apart around him, and that his roosterpit is looking awfully... hole-y. Somehow, he himself is unharmed.

Markus drops a string of chaff to prevent locks and continues onward. moving to intercept the Foxbats.
This happens.

Ajka curses under her breath.

"We just lost another pilot to those MiGs out there. If we both attack them at the same time we could annihilate them quickly and fend off any of their fliers who come to assist. How far out are they?"
: About 20 klicks out- we'll be on them any minute.
: Assuming they don't try to run.

Even the Fenrir's armored roosterpit can't stand up to a slug traveling at mach seven. Kraxe 1 is destroyed.

"Finish them off!" Jaakko barks.
He pulls into a high AOA turn to bring his guns on Kraxe-2.
Though the plane itself is hardly visible, the fire from its engines is more than enough of a targeting assist.

With fire spilling out of the Fenrir's engine nacelles, Lorens stays on Kraxe-2 and places the gun solution marker over the bright flickering specks in his night-vision overlay. Seconds later, the Tornado's twin cannons erupt with a hail of fire, the tracers painting a menacing trail across the black sky.

: Those Self Delete Berkuts really gave us hell. We took two down before you showed up, but they got Musashi and bagged eight Imp planes first. It's those damn MiGs out there, if they aren't actively firing on you they're giving you a lock warning, and these Imp greenhorns are cracking under the pressure. We're going after them, the rank and file can deal with the rest.

Ash rockets out of the Typhoon. Right as he starts falling again, the parachute comes out, jostling him as the ejection seat detaches. He watches explosions flash against the night sky, grimacing as he clenches the paracord.
From your vantage point drifting slowly down from ten thousand feet, you can see clearly the Aesthian aerial fleet in the distance, their positions in the night sky betrayed by the flashes of point-defense fire as they shoot down Imperial SAMs. One of the lead bombers takes several direct hits from the Imperial fleet and begins losing altitude, its wingmates returning the gesture with a cannonade of plasma that you don't get to see the final effect of.




Walter winces at the sounds of the shells hitting the frame of the Skepna. He lets off two flares and evades.

The Fenrirs break away from their pursuit, and one of them begins cloaking again.

Not faring much better, Lorens gets a spike from the Fenrir element newly arrived at his six and quickly deflects in defense. "Snowman!" Acknowledging Jaakko's order, Lorens drops the power, extends the brake, opens the wings and pulls back as hard as the fully laden Tornado will allow. To start, he tries to bring his guns to bear over Kraxe-2.
Kraxe-2 begins to disappear, but you can still predict where it's going to be for the next few seconds.

Bell makes a hard banking maneuver to get her sights lined up on Kraxe-1, and she holds her fire to acquire a better shot for now.
Kraxe is breaking left, presenting quite an easy target for the time being.

Jensen and Ulrich fire on the Fenrirs.

Jaakko gets cold feet seeing as how the rest of the strike squadrons are maintaining their distance. He calls the commander in the air.

: You go on ahead. When the Fenrirs decloak to attack, we will back you up.




Markus immediately fires his EML at Draugr 4, quickly thumbs the weapons selector, and then fires two AAMs at the same target.

"It looks pretty heavy, maybe we should get all of this anti-ship ordinance launched before we start dogfighting."
Lorens looks at his BVR scanner and tries to make sense of the furball looming in the distance.
"How are we going to get past the bandits?," he queries.
"Let's burn around the furball and hit the airships. We will attack airships that are already damaged, as I would assume that even the damaged ones could still bomb the objective. With fewer ships cluttering up the sky the Imperial fleet should be able to better handle the healthy ones. At least I think,"
Jaakko pauses for a short moment.
"I only care as much about bingo fuel as the rest of you do, we won't get a chance to refuel before the airships would be over the missile command post anyway,"
Walt keeps mostly quiet, thankful that he wouldn't have to worry as much about keeping up with and evading the more maneuverable Aesthian crafts. The airships, at least, wouldn't be able to sneak up on his tail like the fighters would. "Got it," he acknowledges.
Lorens looks at his fuel gauge for a moment.
"Sounds like a plan. If this ends up being a one-way trip, we just need to make it count."
You all begin skirting around the area of conflict.
: [Scratch that, sir. Auxiliary reinforcements are leaving the area.]
: [Very well, if they want to be the bait, I won't complain.]

Airships will be in radar range next turn.




"[Wow, awfully astute of you, there.]"
Markus drops a single string of chaff to break any locks.
This happens.

Ellie fires off two RGMs at Draugr-2.
Draugur 2 doesn't evade just yet.

Draugur surges forward with aid from their turbochargers and are now in missile range.

Everybody except Scorch picks up a missile warning.

Shortsword, Crash, Walt, Snowman, and Virvel arrive relatively quickly to back up the Imperial strike package.
: [Indomitus, Orlok. Task Digit Nul-Saihs-Twai to attack the nearest cruiser. Let's see if that ghost plane will show itself again.]

: [Sir, reinforcements are arriving from the southwest.]
: [Excellent. Hegelsturm, you're on me. The rest of you, deal with those fighters.]

You are unable to assist at this range, but the data-link from the Imperial planes means you can make a clearer decision whether to assist in the combat, bypass and attack the fleet directly, or simply wait it out.




Around the same time; Skytracer, Scorch, Blackeye, and Gerowitz acquire sight of the Gothic fighters stonewalling the Aesthian strike package.
: [Another radar lock!? Popping chaff- evading... Noo!]
: [Saskia? Saskia, come in! stuff!]
: [Albrecht's gone. Warin, take her position on Emelrich's wing. Indomitus, Indikos 1-1, requesting drone retasking to suppress those Corsairs.]
: Wait- where did those Berkuts go?
: Don't think you can fool me by flying around in those Imperial buckets, traitors! We know that's you in there! Draugur, kill em!

Four planes have broken off from the main engagement and are heading directly at you. A handful of drones are in pursuit, but you know how effective those are.

Repair, refueling, and rearmament is completed in a matter of minutes, and everyone is ordered to return to their planes and adjust their radios to receive what is hopefully the last briefing of the night.

Briefing
: Auxiliaries, congratulations are in order regarding the results of your previous sortie. Your performance exceeded expectations, destroying two bombers and saving what was left of Grao and Paurpura Maniples. The rest of the strike package combined only managed to destroy one more and damage three, and the remaining bombers are still pressing on towards their objective. The admiral has moved Battlegroup Indomitus to block the Aesthian formation directly, but we aren't about to assume that our guns alone will be able to stop every airship from reaching its target. Take note of the tactical map on your Multi-Function Displays.



: There are two main sources of conflict that require additional attention- Indikos, Gulth, Groen, and Weizh maniples, along with the Kintharians, are still engaging the primary Aesthian fighter wave to the East; while Onyx and Rauths Maniples are accompanying Brunaz, Grao, Blawes, and Gelorauth in continuing the attack on the aerial fleet. If our attack is repulsed, or if their attack breaks through, the rest of the fleet's job will be significantly more difficult. Stick together, split up, we won't tell you how to do your job, just do it.

Mjolnir sets down on the Indomitus and the deck crew get set refitting the squadron with the usual machine-like efficiency and demeanor as per each pilot's requests. Subsystems are repaired, armor and hull patched up, and weapons swapped out in a matter of minutes as the pilots are granted a small amount of rest. Virvel takes note of the modified Flanker plane being worked on and starts wondering what's up with that.
: Why are they working on that bucket? I hope Frisk isn't flying with us too.

: Good work, Kobalt Maniple, that's one less atomic bomber. Be advised, you are low on munitions, you may want to resupply at an AWACS or at the Indomitus before returning to the field.

Jaakko fires another burst of rockets to saturate the PD and breaks to discourage any accurate retaliatory fire.
The point-defense has new priorities in light of the destroyed engines, and smaller projectiles like the rockets are allowed through.

The skies around you get a little bit quieter as Grao destroys the flak cannon.



Ark, I wasn't even close! Lorens exhales into his mask and tries to calm himself down. He places the rocket CCIP just ahead of the Kyykhynen's center of mass and holds it there as he presses the munitions release button. Another volley of rockets comes streaming out of all four pods.

Jaakko comes about and lines up on the Kyykhynen.

"Mark, open fire!"

He looses another salvo of rockets to saturate PD.
LAMS P1 rolls to intercept rockets:

Your rockets are destroyed as Grao's missiles streak by overhead towards the Kyykhynen. The Airship's interceptor missiles launch in defense of the craft, halving their numbers before they even reach the defense lasers.
