Okay, so imagine you have a 1-year-old car that runs relatively fine but isn't particularly stunning in appearance.
You add on some spoilers, get some custom hubcaps, get a better engine, get a new paint job, etc.

None of those things are necessary, but they can make it look and run better.

Cars aren't forever working machines though. They actually do need fixing.

what's wrong with adding more things to survive from and collect in a game about surviving and collecting?!

I don't know about that. If you're going to edit the game you might as well make things easier for you.

Canadians have a great accent, even if it's being exaggerated. So do the Aussies, Scots, and Welsh. I can't say anything about the Corellian accent since that's what I'm used to, but pretty much every other US accent is annoying. Not nearly as annoying as English though.

US accents are more annoying than British any day
in US English "stuff" means "something" and "forgeted up" mean "something happened"
