Pretty much "general weebstuff thread" so stuff like VNs, games, and merchandise are fair game.
This is apparently the third megathread.

I'll try not to get banned.

Will attempt to update poll every season if I'm creative enough for single-option polls.
Results:
Spring 2016: Best Girl - I know there aren't 59 active posters in this thread you forgeters
Summer 2016: Which sequel/spinoff are you looking forward to the most? - Let's laugh at those 5 people that voted for Berserk
Fall 2016: Do you skip openings and/or endings? - I actually voted in this one, but it's interesting to note that 58 people voted
Winter 2017: Best Girl again (never finished due to laziness)
Spring 2017: Sequel again (never made)
Summer 2017: Do you watch shorts? (never made)
Fall 2017 - N/A
Winter 2018 - Do you follow the "three-episode" rule?

RIP polls, the results for the first three are also gone because I didn't save them anywhere else except some unreliable image host that went kaput and now editing polls isn't possible

Trademark Abrams shakycamtm with seizure lights! And during the Falcon flying! Lightsabers with crossguards! And mini blades in the crossguards!

I've got mixed feelings about various things but overall I want to watch the movie. They'd also have to try REALLY hard to make it worse than Ep II.

Games / John Carmack's Airshot Challenge

Play as John Carmack, American McGee, or John Romero of id Software fame. Destroy teapots with a rocket launcher. The airshot meter decreases faster as you destroy more teapots, and teapots spawn further away.

Seems they've struck some sort of deal with Valve, but of course they'll be a little stingy with the details.

Weapons and Powerups

Rise of the Triad is a 1995 first-person shooter using a heavily modified Wolfenstein 3D engine. Despite using a dated engine for its time period, it introduced several things like fog, bullet holes, rooms over rooms, and platforming elements. The latter two use "gravitational anomaly disks," platforms suspended in the air. It was originally meant as a sequel to Wolfenstein 3D, which is evidenced by the presence of an MP40 and the national socialist soldier-esque appearances of several enemies. The game is known for having KICK-ASS MUSIC composed by Lee Jackson and Bobby Prince (where Prince is known for DOOM's music) and the infamous LUDICROUS GIBS.

What about that reboot?

Interceptor Entertainment revealed the trailer for the reboot of the game in August 2012. Utilizing Unreal Engine 3, the developers have tasked themselves with keeping the reboot as faithful as possible while "modernizing" it to some extent. All the weapons and powerups are the same, the music is being remixed as HEAVY METAL (unfortunately with some dubstep in at least one of the tracks, but it's easily overlooked...heard...whatever), the same sense of humor and LUDICROUS GIBS are there, and stuff, even the SWITCHES are going to look the same.

The idea is to bring arena shooters back to the forefront. Do you see ironsights in the videos? Yes you do, but REJOICE, 'cuz they do JACK stuff for you. The single-player will still have a points system, but no lives system. In fact, the points system is a big part. Speedrunning will give a significant bonus, but finding secrets will also give bonus points. Killing enemies with different weapons, hitting different parts, and a bunch of other things factor into this "competitive single-player."

Story
You are part of an elite group of operatives called H.U.N.T. (High-risk United Nations Taskforce), and you must stop a maniac cult leader from killing millions of people. While scouting a remote island, you are suddenly surrounded by enemy troops with guns blaring. In the distance you see your boat--your only chance to escape--explode into matchsticks. In front of you is a huge fortress monastery, and your only chance to stop the madness.

Screenshots, Videos, and some other info

The Excalibat. Charge it up for a few seconds to release a flurry of explosive baseballs.

The God Mode literally turns you into a yawning god that shoots homing light orbs to smite your foes for its duration.

Dog Mode turns you into a dog. Like God Mode, you are invincible while it lasts. Using the weapon button bites, but holding it down charges up an explosive shockwave.

The redesigned MP40 has a side-mounted duct-taped double magazine to look badass.

The Excalibat is back.

Enemies will still do that thing where they ask you not to shoot if damaged enough.

How does it play?
Mostly like your standard 90s first-person shooter with some platforming added in. There are three bullet weapons with unlimited ammo: the pistol, dual pistols, and the MP40. In the reboot, you have to reload these but you still have an infinite ammo supply. The fourth weapon slot is reserved for missile or magic weapons, of which you can only carry one at a time. There are some arcade-like elements including a points and lives system. There are various coins with ankhs on them, giving life item points in addition to regular points. Collecting 100 life item points will grant an extra life. Be careful though, both you and your enemies can actually destroy the ankh coins by shooting them. Every level has a ridiculous amount of secrets and hidden rooms.

Check out the Facebook page and Twitter for some more stuff.

Characters
In single-player and multiplayer, there are different characters to choose from with different strengths and weaknesses for a bit of variety.

(click the image to visit Interceptor's minisite for the 2013 character redesigns and better descriptions)

Left to Right:
Doug Wendt
Highest health, but the slowest and has average accuracy.

Lorelei Ni
Fastest with the best accuracy, but the lowest health.

Taradino Cassat
Balanced character, everything is average.

Thi Barrett
Between Lorelei and Taradino in terms of health and speed.

Ian Paul "I.P." Freeley
Between Doug and Taradino in terms of health and speed, but has the most overpowered name.

Music
It's too awesome to not get its own section. There's a lot more than this, but since I'm lazy as hell I'll only list my favorites along with their remakes, if available.

Suck This
(parts of the redone version can be heard at different parts of the QuakeCon panel video, like at the 25-minute mark)
Goin' Down the Fast Way with Redone version
Run Like Smeg
(Redone version can be heard at around 5:55 in the 18-min multiplayer video)

And finally, get this game on GOG.com for 6 bucks if you haven't already! There's also the option of buying The Apogee Throwback Pack for 10 bucks, which includes two additional games.

The remake is out for $14.99 USD
Steam (has 4-pack option)
GOG.com (has bonuses like soundtrack samples, wallpapers, avatars)
GMG.com (comes with a Steam key)
Apogee Store (most profit for developers)

(shamelessly stole the the base formatting from Hiiro's Warframe thread. Thanks :B)

try using old GT240 with CRT port->not detected
try installing 9500GT and use a DVI adapter->detected
take 9500GT out and stick GT240 back in, use DVI adapter->goes to standard VGA, but nVidia's website detects it
install drivers and restart->not detected

wtf

most definitely the card but damn, that's stupid.

A few years back, my mother got a survival kit and stuck it in the car. My brother and I re-discovered it and found the survival ration and water packets. The water was crap, it tasted like plastic and we wondered if it was actually meant for survival rather than plastic poisoning.

As for the ration...

Total of 2400 calories. The packaging claims it's separated into 6 portions of 400 calories each. "Apple Cinnamon" flavor.

The part about separation? See for yourself.

What a load of bullstuff. That is NOT separated at all. My brother also tried to break off a corner, causing it to explode into a million pieces and dust, like that one part in The Mummy (does that actually happen? Never saw that movie).

The only thing left to do was to eat it.

This was much more of a science experiment than anything else. It's the equivalent of eating slightly flavored sawdust. I understand it's meant for survival, but DAMN. They could have tried to make it more palatable. It didn't taste BAD; the "apple cinnamon" was definitely there, albeit very faint. Case in point: This was quite possibly the smartest idea ever. Don't do this at home. It's not pleasant.

The only way to eat this is in small bites. Density and dryness do NOT go together. If you take too large of a bite, you WILL coughgagchokesuffocate, and it will HURT LIKE stuff. Dunking it in water sort of solves the crumbling problem, but doesn't solve the inner dryness at all.

Off Topic / My fingers are spastic
« on: December 10, 2011, 05:19:04 PM »
So as of late, I've been trying to do pen tricks using this helpful video with incredibly stuffty but thankfully mutable music. I can do the thumbaround, the passes, the charge, and most of the reverse thumbaround.

I can't do the sonic at all, on account of my index finger bending only when I'm trying to do it. I don't know what's going on. If I practice the finger motions without the pen, it's fine. But when I try to do it with the pen, my index finger bends for no reason at all. I think it's because I've been trying to do the reverse thumbaround for two days now, but that doesn't explain why it only bends during the attempt of the pentrick.

Saying it makes you look like a handicap. Now, you might argue that this is the intent, that you're trying to imitate how handicapped a quoted person is.

In actuality, not only are you imitating the quoted person, you're amplifying his handicappedness. Onto yourself. You effectively make yourself look even stupider by saying "herp" or "derp" or anything close to it.

In short, stop loving saying "derp."

What the hell happened? Firefox 2 was incredibly fast, and it was great. Then Firefox 3 rolls around and stuff starts to slow down and it takes 10 minutes to start up. Then forgetin' Firefox 4 comes and it's even slower. AND mozilla claims it's faster. forgetin' bullstuff.

Whatever, I use Chrome now.
