Besides, to have a 'gun' shoot that many projectiles to become a beam doesn't work.
There's a limit to how fast it can fire. No where near beam like.

It is actually a very cool challenge, and it is alot more fun to play-
That is an interesting concept, but in a 64x64 area, there's not much room for say...20 people..
-it is alot more fun to play imo than when the map is loving huge and you have to wander to find someone to fight.
And at that point people slap a "Dogfight" label on it. Brilliant.
No, your right. Too big is stupid, but too small is hard to play on.
