General Discussion / Re: Favorite Modder?
« on: January 07, 2015, 08:26:41 AM »
Looks like I'm not in the list. Nor are siba, Zeblote, Aoki and many others. Literally just really obvious ones. Also, there are people on this list who aren't even modders. The OP has only allowed voting for a certain selection of people he knows about.

I think that's a little opinionated, but I'll let it slide. (EDIT: that was dumb. I apologise.)

Game Modes / Re: Super Creeper - Fixed
« on: January 07, 2015, 06:38:40 AM »
This is not to discount your nice additions to the gamemode, but:

This is in no way fixed at all.  There are many bugs that seem to be the product of either meddling with the code and not doing proper testing of it afterwards or just poorly done original code.  I had to do a lot of fixing.  For example, some rtb preferences were opposite (i.e. on is off, off is on) or were double or triple negatives, creating confusion.  You can't leave the minigame properly nor rejoin it properly, and you take damage from the creeper outside the minigame as well.  Also the maps are not fixed.  People spawn inside the pillars in some areas, and in others there are large open spaces the creeper never reaches in time.  The other creeper mode 'Armageddon' is not complete, and so there is no point in setting most preferences to a per-map-basis in support of that mode.  Besides, map makers can be pretty stupid or inexperienced and often don't set the preferences right; I find universal settings more reliable.  The game does not initially start automatically and must be manually started via /nextlevel or /setlevel to get the game going.  Had to fix that.  Also the 'shop' is just for upgrading default items, not buying them.  I renamed the command to upgrade and made a buy command to actually buy basic, single use items.  Creep bomb spamming the creep spawns was a problem so I made customizable delays and changes to their radius damage.  There're also more preferences that I made, but it's cut off in the picture.

So tl;dr I have developed this mod a bit further and done real fixes for these problems, along with new features and new RTB preferences.  I might release it sometime when I feel it's ready.

That is what it does.  Less bricks being created in the same time frame means less ghosting, and for some with less powerful machines 'less lag'.
Well, good job.

If you want me to replace the version in this topic I'm happy to do so but I'm done working on this myself.

%thing = findLocalClient();
%name = eval("return %thing.getPlayerName();");

This practice is known as quickscoping.

General Discussion / Chrisbot6's Winter Block Festival
« on: December 24, 2014, 11:21:01 AM »
[no logo because meh]

What?
Essentially, this is a winter terrain build. Sort of like Badspot's; build on the backs of the poor and all that. There are no specific rules, though do note that common offenses like spam and harassment have penalties. Special points for Christmas decorations, hidden treasure and cool challenges. I'll be making my own one of those near the spawn.

Hopefully by the end of January we'll have some cool stuff to show off from everyone.

When?
24/7. We're using the same CBMHost server Cowboy6 graciously provided for GoG.

How?
We're running a moderate (but not extreme) number of mods that add new bricks, as well as an autosaver (so no need to worry about your build being lost) and several building aids (i.e. fill can, duplicator).

Gallery
Not much to see yet, spawn has just been built. I'll put stuff here as the server gets more popular and the build grows. I have high hopes!

General Discussion / Re: Good Old Gamemodes - MORE gamemodes!
« on: December 16, 2014, 08:38:46 AM »
I think chris fixed it for his own purposes to make his server popular.
Mean.

I was going to do a release, but then Bushido turned up and told me exactly what he thought of that. I'll settle for extending the gamemode for my own use right now.

You can tell that a server is popular when the newest posts are bumps
Ah, well. I've got something new I'll host instead soon.

I really don't think there will be devision on the basis that BRV and BAM are different things. BRV seems focused on more social stuff, BAM is all about developer tools and addon management. BAM doesn't even use an overlay at present.

I wouldn't mind combining mods after both are finished, but Port has the last say on what we do with BAM.

Bump.

236
a few days later and it's dead again, honestly if it's not dead, why the BAM topic wasn't bumped or anything to announce that?
BAM topic can't be bumped. Too old.

We're not creating a new one until we have something solid to show off, either. Hype is how large scale projects fall to the ground.
Obviously, this mod is an exception since the creator is pretty dedicated.

237
Jeez guys.

BAM's still going. We're literally working on it right now.
Everyone who was on the dev team before has ceased contact so it's literally just me and Port, but it's going

Modification Help / Re: Sound_Trains (First sound pack)
« on: December 11, 2014, 05:35:44 AM »
Hello, Even though my real name is Placemaker13,
What? I don't want to be the guy who says, "who cares" to half of the post, but what relevance does this have?

This is my first ever add on to show to you all!
Realistically, your first ever add-on probably isn't up to release standard. I know this well. Mine wasn't.

I know the sounds have bad quality, but I had to record everything with my mic.
With your mic? You recorded train sounds with your mic? What, you're sat there making whoosh noises into a microphone and expecting praise from us for them?

Anyway, The sounds are class 170 sounds, (If you don't know what it is, find a picture of it)
Ok, now I do want to be the guy who says "who cares" but I'm not going to because I have something called self-restraint.

Also, to prove you know how to install addons, I will tell you this:
Tell us what? There's nothing here.
It's very unfair that you don't want new people who don't know how to install add-ons to be able to install yours. Everyone was new at some point. It's actually ironic, because you're very new yourself, lolguy1553. How would you react if I was to add code to my add-ons that made them not work for people with > 30k IDs? New people (i.e. YOU) wouldn't be able to remove it.

And, if you really want to try the addon for yourself, a expert at Blockland, but you dont know the code, then I will tell the code when 100+ experts ask me.
WHAT THE forget? You're creating a thread in the forum that is LITERALLY SUMMARIZED as "FINISHED add-ons only" saying that you MADE a "train sounds" add-on (i.e. you blowing raspberries at a webcam) and nobody can have it unless several of us "experts" get down on their knees and BEG YOU just for your stuffty mod's source code? Well, I'm right in. Give me your train sounds, I beg you!
This makes me angry beyond words. I assume it's all downhill from here.

Anyway, I'm giving a hint:
Are you starting every paragraph with a hedge on consistency? Why? "And, here's how: Anyway, you do it like this. So, here's a hint: Right, the hint is this." How is that english? What are you doing? Your little trollbait essay (come on, there's no other explanation) has no flow at all.

Code: [Select]
datablock AudioProfile (Sound)
{
This code for an empty Audio Datablock isn't even valid, Mr. Expert. Oh dear, there goes your otherwise perfectly valid superiority claim.
(This loving post isn't valid. I'm not well. Why am I sitting around doing this?! Why are you sitting around reading this? Go. Live your life. Be free)

On a side note, if anyone new is reading this and is actually wondering, you do it like this:
Code: [Select]
datablock AudioDescription(AudioBorgSpeak3D : AudioDefault3D)
{
volume = 0.8;
};
// you probably won't be needing your own audio description. Just use a default one, like AudioDefault3D

datablock AudioProfile(borgSpeakSound1)
{
fileName = "./borg_speak1.wav";
description = AudioBorgSpeak3D;
preload = 1;
};

Ok, that's all for now!
That was nothing.

Feel free to rate, and if I have 100+ likes, I might make a new addon, for class 150 Sprinter sounds.
Yeah, I'll be sure to find a picture of that.
Oh dear. You can't get rates and likes on the Blockland Forum, Mr. Expert. You can't get rates and likes on any internet forum I know of.

Anyway, this is the end.
It never ends (eye twitch eye twitch)

(If we get 500+ thumbs down, then why should I bother doing the next train sound addon?)
Woah there, junior. Getting a little ahead of ourselves, aren't we? Where's your first train sound addon?
Like I said, no thumbs up/down on an internet forum. Looks like you're never making another mod, and nothing was lost on that day.

Jeeez. OP is a friend.

TL;DR
My trains mods, the hazard train mod, and many more mods that I can't think of right now already include perfectly good train sounds. In addition, many are freely available on sites such as www.freesound.org (all you need to do is create an account) and www.findsounds.com. Nothing has ever annoyed me as much as this thread. Congrats.

Modification Help / Re: BAM Poll: Type safety with server preferences
« on: December 09, 2014, 02:40:29 PM »
Seems like people are relatively afraid of change. How about implementing $Pref::* wrappers through BAM_addLegacyPref and namespaced prefs (serverrules.general.mustaccept) through BAM_addPref?
Liking.

One thing that would be cool is if the GUI was to organize prefs into categories and subcategories via expandable lists of some kind.

Thanks for doing up doPlayerTeleport. I meant to do it myself a long time ago but never got around to it.
