10. Having few accesses to your base can be a lifesaver, a base on an island with one dock and that's it can be the perfect place. Caves are not good places for homes. Always have a sword with you.

Games / The rogue-likes thread II

Yes yes, this is a remake topic. Don't nag me.

The Rogue-Likes thread.

This is a list of the roguelike games I can think of that I personally like, and hell, I may not like them at all. The definition of 'Rogue-like' isn't one set in stone answer, there are so many different kinds that roguelike has some form of turn based system, like chess where the player has as long as he or she wishes to plan strategy, take a break or get something else done. Rogue likes also prefer simple text based graphics rather than anything advanced.

My personal favorite roguelike is Dwarf Fortress. We have had lots of topics of this game before, most got 20+ pages but all contain tales of awesome failure. Among other things, this is the game where failing hard is a way of life and the greatest make awesome mega structures ranging from dams to dwarven computers to magma spewing statue deathtraps.
Probably the best known succession game in DF history.

One game I recently tried is Aliens:The Rogue-like. Just as the name implies, this is based around the trilogy Alien. You are a colonial marine that has crashed in a colony you recently lost contact to. you'll be running around shooting up aliens and burning ammo quick. This is quite odd for a roguelike, this game has music and sound. And, if you don't set a name you get the the name "Ellen Ripley".

Doom the Rogue-like is pretty much AliensRL, but it is actually better. You go down floors of the mars base contacting harder enemy units the farther down you go- ranging from zombie marines to demons. You also get shotguns and machine guns, pistols, grenades (maybe) and a bunch of other weapons.

-Couldn't find a decent picture and don't want to take the time to take one-

Rogue Survivor, I love this game. You survive zombies, gangsters, black ops,  bikers, all sorts of stuff. But you need to eat and sleep. You need to try it yourself.

Prospector, in a galaxy where everything is out to kill you and four major corporations call the shots- you, a pirate, trader or mineral collecter- must survive. Survive from hostile corporation guards, alien lifeforms, the planets themselves, no fuel, so many things to kill you, so much money waiting to be made.

Basically, you fly around in a ship collecting minerals from planets, raiding merchant convoys or whatever the hell you people do for fun in this part of the galaxy. All lifeforms that are non-sentient turn hostile eventually.

And we have the literal goldmine of random rogue-likes here.

Soldier A: Sir, I think that's the last of them.
Soldier B: Affirmitive, no hostiles detected.
Soldier C: Wait a minute! Oh nevermind, it's just the wind.
Commander: Alright, good work men. Time to go- HOLY stuff INCOMING
*soldiers start firing at a rocket, making it spiral and crash into the squad, killing them*

I love it, a crack team of superpowered soldiers armed to the teeth can be obliterated by a crashed rocket.

CLOUDS GO ONLY NORTH
LERN TO USE NATURE.
The compass points toward your spawn point, the spawn point is the 'magnetic center' of the world in theory.
