Off Topic / Today I got stabbed
« on: May 08, 2012, 08:04:17 PM »
Today in Science, period 3, we were making some bridges out of balsa wood. We pulled a lot of the desks together to make "tables" out of them to work with friends. This one kid pulled his desk up next to mine, and I didn't really mind, he's really quiet and tends to stay out of everyone's way. I'm building my bridge, and I see him pretend to cut me with a balsa wood cutter. I turned away, because I didn't really mind, though it made me a little uncomfortable. From across the table, my friend said, "Hey bro, did you know you're kind of bleeding a forgetload and Ian cut your arm?" I looked at my arm, and realized that he actually did cut me when he was "pretending", and there was a stuffload of blood all over the floor and my arm. I walked over to the teacher and asked to go to the nurse, and he told me to get a paper towel to stop the blood while I was walking. I walked over to the paper towels with everybody staring at me, and my arm dripping blood on the floor. I took a paper towel and started walking across the building to the nurse, and I got there with the paper towel entirely red and my hands and arm covered in blood. I had to leave school and go get stitches in my elbow because the cut was so deep. I really don't know what to do now about this, and now this whole issue has blown up and nearly everyone in the school knows now. Wat do?

Off Topic / Jesus, Marilyn Manson is actually hilarious
« on: April 24, 2012, 09:23:12 AM »
My dad decided to send me a link to this interview of Marilyn Manson on the Sharon Osbourne show yesterday, and I just got around to watching it today. I almost died laughing, I never expected him to be so funny. The one thing that got me the most was "A bunch of people had prayed for me, but it didn't work. I'm still alive." Has anyone here ever watched some interview with him and realized that he's actually very wise? Discuss

Off Topic / I'm not feeling great, suggest music?
« on: April 15, 2012, 09:31:10 PM »
So recently, my social life took a pretty heavy hit that I don't wish to discuss at this time (I know you're watching, Big Brother Sing, and I don't appreciate it). I feel like the only thing that can sway my emotions when they're this strong is music. Music is powerful, and has helped me to cope with my issues. I've found music I like, and that's enough for me. But now I need help finding new music. My ghosts that haunt me are back; the horizontally striped shirt; the hair in the wind; the kilt and the fox tail; the Russian. I feel like I need new music, and then I can cope. I like most rock except metal/screamo, and I recently started listening to a little alternative music on the side, and really enjoy that, too.

Please recommend me some music to listen to, and no rap or dubstep please, I can't stand either

Off Topic / I wrote a poem today (New poem in the OP!)
« on: April 04, 2012, 11:29:09 PM »
So recently, my life has completely stuff on me. Friends have forsaken me and made my social life miserable, I might have arthritis in both of my knees, and a really close friend of mine died. I wrote a poem about some of it, tell me what you think, please. I can explain some of it if it doesn't make sense to you. Some feedback would be nice.

Quote
Untitled

A wind in the door
A swish of hair
I know I can't get over you
and I know nobody's there.
The Belgian, the Russian, and the German
on a boat to nowhere.

Lost at sea
Not to be found
I'm stumbling blind
you're buried in the ground

Can you hear me, Major Tom?
I've got a sword in my chest
and a Glasgow smile
Now lay me to rest

The doors are all locked
they are all barred
you're gone forever
I've been jarred

Memories floating away
Ones I want to keep
but from between my fingers
this treasure slowly seeps

Disaster at sea
three nowhere to be found
two women, one man
lost in the sound

Awoken by grief
kept awake by pain
the needle must be threaded
once again

Quote
Untitled Dos

Fire in your eyes
there's a certain flair
you exert on those around you
whenever you're there

The captain is dead
the crew in shambles
the ship might sink
the speaker rambles

Big brother, our president
his police tear me apart
while I drown in a teacup
Totalitarianism is an art

I'm Daedalus with the shell
but I am given no string
no ant, no honey
to help me, nothing

You are my light
the two are my dark
The building block of my life
you are a quark

Thank you, my dear
the sitting room war has drawn to a close
but there are two I still fear
the Italian and Thai, those

They'll stab me and shoot me
it doesn't seem right
up until recently we were inseperable
but now they'll kill me in the night

The captain and crew
slouched, asleep
the craft approaches the water
diving down deep

It hits the seafloor
Kicking up sand
Nobody can save these men
from death's crushing hand

The mustang on the sea floor
Poseidon created
drunk from the fumes of creation
inebriated

My admonition to the two of you
now that you fell
is to leave me alone
and burn in Hell

So, about five minutes away from my house, there's an old Cold War era Nike missile bunker. The whole purpose of the thing was to shoot down incoming missiles so they didn't hit Bridgeport (AKA the Detroit of Connecticut). I recently learned there's one near my house on public property, seeing as they built a goddamn park on the site. The bunker is still there, and I have a good idea of where the entrance is. If this is on public property, can I enter it? I don't want to get arrested for going in an abandoned military building, even if it is on public property.

This is a question that I've been thinking about for a few days now, and I haven't been able to come up with a good enough answer to convince myself that the two are different. So, Blockland, what is the difference between a freedom fighter and a terrorist?

I personally believe that one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist, and refuse to label anyone as a terrorist now.

Discuss.

Can I have some constructive criticism on this? I had a sore throat while recording my voice, so everything had to be muted except my voice, and it's still kinda difficult to hear. What do you think of this?

So, I was wondering, if I had an old mac laying around, could I wipe it, install some form of linux, and turn it into a file server for my house? I have this macintosh with a 160 gigabyte hard drive, and I was wondering if I could use it to store important things that I probably didn't want to lose. Is this possible?

Off Topic / Society today (Part 6 on Pg 8)
« on: March 10, 2012, 05:32:25 PM »
Okay, I've just about had enough with today's society. I remember that society growing up was so much different. Here we go on what may be a mega-rant, but I just need to let all of this go. I need to vent, and state why I think society has gone into a state of disrepair. Here we go.

Whole thing here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_EXjwKQNKvhpy4f2TbO_bvo33WfjQhR-XKqf2Rn4GcA/edit

Part 1: Childhood

I remember when I was little, life was pretty simple. I'd go to school, come home, /maybe/ watch some Nickelodeon (because it was actually good), and I'd walk over to a friend's house and we'd do things that, at the time, were awesome. We would take crayons and draw out movies of what would happen if Power rangers fought a Pikachu. We would build things, whether it was a simple pillow fort to hold off the impending mutant invasion, or a semi-complex wooden machine that would draw different shapes (in purple felt-tipped marker <3) based on what gears you put into it. We would also walk down to this little creek near my house, where we would go fishing. It was something straight out of the Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. We'd walk down to the creek, no socks or shoes, and we'd sit down on the side and sit and catch some fish. If I had one wish, it would be to have another childhood. It was amazing, and I was so much more carefree then than I am now. I didn't have a stick up my ass, and I didn't have to worry about anything.

So, being the oldest non-old person on my street, I have to watch my neighbor's children all of the time. They range in age from four to twelve, and there's three of them. When I have to watch them, it's not a "put them to bed and do whatever you want" job. I get out of school at around noon, because I took so many AP courses in Freshman and Sophomore years, and I have free periods from noon on. My school, thank god, lets students leave if they have a situation like this and they can drive themselves. So pretty much ever day, I do my work at home with the four year old, and then I have to get my neighbor's children off of the bus (the ones that go to school) and make sure they don't get raped by the one million child enthusiasts that live on my tiny street of four houses.

When we go back to their house (their parents work and don't get home until 5 in the afternoon), I have the wonderful job of keeping them entertained for a few hours, on weekends for much of the day. So, of three children, two of them are 10, and both of them have an iPhone 4S. They sit down and pull out their phones, which makes the task of getting them to do their homework done exceedingly difficult. They text, and make youtube videos, and go on facebook, and do a lot of other stuff. These activities are apparently are endorsed by their parents and let them be "creative". I can't do much about this, because they are allowed to do that on the condition that their homework is done.

Let's stop right here. When I was their age, we had paint, paper, imagination, and a river. They have iPhones, tumblr, Facebook, and youtube. I'm sure a lot of you don't respect me, but hear me out when I say that although I'm not opposed to technology, these girls are way too young to be doing these things. I'm not going to use myself as an example of a perfect human, but you get the point. In this case, I'm really dissapointed about how imagination has turned into technology.

Here we go with part two.

Part 2: Idolization

Idols have existed in society for as long as society has existed. Society and idols go hand in hand. First, we had religion, which created idols for us. Everyone's perception of who is an "Idol" will be different. But my definition of "Idol" is "a person who is admired for exceptional traits, one who is to be imitated". I remember that my idol used to be Jaromir Jagr. I always wanted to play hockey like him. I never played hockey for very long, because I'd switched to lacrosse. But I admired him for the fact that he was a respectable person who  was commited to doing something and doing it right.

Society now will not let you pick idols, but now will pick idols for you. This really does bother me. Remember when shows on Nickelodeon taught some sort of life lesson? Be nice to others, sharing is caring, etc? Nickelodeon has turned into mindless entertainment. The majority of television has, with the exception of History channel (H is for Riddler), Discovery channel, and a few others.

Here's where we get to idols. Think of the most obnoxious television show to be invented. If you thought of Jersey Shore, you win $1 million in imaginary monopoly money. A "reality" program about oranges with roid rage who are always getting up in each others' stuff to piss other people off. The women on that show are no better. They're all sluts who apparently want to give as many people herpes as possible. My neighbor once told me "I want to be pretty like Snooki." I almost died on the spot. She's 10, and she thinks that Snooki is a person to be imitated. No, just no.

Television isn't the only one guilty of this. The music industry is also to blame. What happened to songs about true love, happy days, or even using actual instruments? The last one might be a personal issue, but let's have some quotes from some of today's most informative music; "I wanna take a ride on your disco stick", "Boys tryin' to touch my junk, junk, Gonna smack him if he getting too drunk, drunk". Really? I can remember listening to Marty Robbins, Buddy Holly, the Beatles, Bing Crosby, the Chordettes, and many more. They did not pull any of the above horsestuff. Today's music industry makes me want to cringe, with the themes in songs that are played on the radio, loud and clear for everyone to hear.

I need to stop writing now before my head explodes with rage, expect a part 3. You don't have to agree with me, because this is my opinion.

Discuss today's society.

Quote of the thread
One time someone asked me at school why I never get in relationships. I said because I don't want to love someone for only a week just to be cool. I also hate how popular kids at my school treat smart kids like morons even though there intelligence level is the size of a walnut.

I like little girls, they make me feel so good.

I don't know if I should, but I'm thinking of buying this bear bones kit. I heard that bear bones perform very well in terms of aesthetics and scariness. I'm not looking for a cheap item here

I've been a member of this community for a couple of years now, and I realize that I have failed to make an "I'm new here" topic. So here's a very retroactive "Hello, Blockland, I'm new!" though we've already established that I'm an alt. Welcome me to your cold, heartless community
