are you sure its not because we're destroying our own cities
if the actions of the few protestors define the entire movement that means you have no problem with me saying all cops are bad cuz they killed george right? 🤔🤔🤔

Would private security agencies appointed and funded by their communities be a preferable alternative to police? I remember this being used in South Africa, and I believe it happens currently in Detroit and New York on a low/unofficial level.
i'd rather a community-owned/demilitarized police service with a civilian oversight committee or something like that. i mean it would be a good solution if it all boils down to having a committee that doesn't defend the police at all cost as a police union does. like you need the policing force but you also need some other organization that has as much control as the police but with sole purpose of making sure they dont step out of bounds in terms of how the police act.

it's a very delicate balance because if you have only the police with no oversight and strong unions you get them acting really brutally as we see because there are no repercussions to their actions besides bad press. Whereas if the oversight committee is too strong you get a police force that literally cant do anything.

the problem with a private-sector solution is the private sector is geared to make profit no matter what and the profit motive doesn't always align with whats best for the community, even if they are hired by the community.

what did you think was gonna happen?

This is an important point, and yes I have seen this too and agree with you. I still think it's important to put yourselves in those peoples shoes though. What about the people who've lost jobs because of their business/workplace being destroyed? That's just adding more people to the extremely high unemployment rate.

Burning down government buildings/police stations is one thing (I don't support this but can understand this more from a protesters standpoint) but destroying your own stuff and your own communities? Seems to me like shooting yourself in the foot. Sure it can be rebuilt, but that costs money - and the government has already spent a megaton towards COVID. And with construction often comes road closures, which is just even more inconvenience. There is a domino effect of consequences here that I don't think are being recognized by some.

I guess the question comes down to this; are the consequences worth it? It depends who you ask, and when you ask it. For all we know the consequences could be very negligible. Hard to say until it's over.
I'm not excusing the looting and burning of businesses and most of the organizations in charge of these protests aren't either. I agree it's unfortunate, but alas this is what happens when you push a community to a certain point where it creates the conditions for opportunists.

more videos of cops opening fire on the media

Pepper balls & rubber bullets, depending.
i think it was rubber

other journalist is permanently blind now because a cop shot at her

the fact that cops are trying to randomly silence press that are documenting them is horrible

stfu handicap i never said I supported it but anyone with a normal functioning brain (unlike you) would probably go inside when a literal military force rolls into my neighborhood yelling "GET INSIDE" the city is quite literally in flames and people are dropping dead

it's ironic really because you're truly the clown here for not understanding basic human instinct like these brain dead morons on their phones all the time when they should focus on getting to safety or not provoking people to do stupid stuff, but hey man; as they say. you can't argue with a keyboard warrior
how does literally vibing on your porch perfectly legally give these jingoistic buffons the right to open fire with paintball guns at you.

you're like the kind of narc that wouldn't care that the nsa is spying on you because "i got nothing to hide"

"basic human instincts" to do what? obey the scary military guys and give up all resistance to some randos that rolled up to terrorize your neighborhood? theres no burning buildings around you and theres no riots in the street they are in.
