General Discussion / Blockland Forums
« on: March 14, 2014, 10:22:30 AM »
Blockland is a game where you build stuff.

A large amount of stuff happens on the forums and ingame that is unrelated to that.  I don't think it should be that way, and I wish this forum had moderators.

Add-Ons / Support_DG_DediLoader
« on: March 12, 2014, 01:55:25 AM »
Stolen scripts stitched together for your convenience.  This is something I've had on my server for a while.  And it's also something I wish I'd had when I first started hosting, so that's why I'm posting it here.

Kalphiter made the autosaver.  It saves BLID's with every brick.  So you don't have that stupid brick ownership loss we keep running into.  Not really sure if his autosaver has any other issues.  But it's been working fine for me.

It looks like you can use these:
Code: [Select]
    $kaphost::AS::announce = false;
    $kaphost::AS::interval = 5;
To adjust some settings.

The autoloader(the part I actually messed with) loads the most recent save file when the first client joins the game.  It also starts the autosaver at that point.

If you're the host you can use "/DG_DediLoad" to trigger the load.  I'm not really sure when you'd need that but it's there.  Be happy.

If you need it you can find the autosaves at base\server\kaphost\autosave. Also I added in a backup thing to kalp's autosaver.  So every night around twelve it saves a backup with the current date.

Here's the download.  http://www.mediafire.com/download/xr09af9soz6hb2w/Support_DG_DediLoader.zip
Tell me if something in server.cs breaks.  I had to rename a bunch of stuff before I uploaded it so there wouldn't be conflicts with other mods.

General Discussion / Bi-Polar Server Operation
« on: February 28, 2014, 03:17:48 AM »
I was having trouble figuring out what to call this.  But this is what I've got.

Server #1:
Whitelisted Server
Mostly default Add-Ons
Includes an Automatic Dedi-Save/Load System

Server #2:
Open Deathmatch Server
Dedicated Minigame Running
Assigns a rank depending on how many kills you have.
Dueling-Melee Only weapons.
Loads a save file from Server #1 once every hour

That last bit is the most important.
I have the save file location for Server #1's Dedi-Save/Load addon hardlinked to a folder in Server #2's Blockland folder.  So any resources I stick in that linked folder become available for both servers.

Add-Ons / Brick_ModTer_8xCornerCFix
« on: February 21, 2014, 05:30:28 PM »
This mod fixed the 8xCornerC brick.  But this happened:
Nice work!  I'm stealing this fix for the next update, if you don't mind.
So it soon won't be needed, and I've locked this topic.

Add-Ons / Script_ReColorNames
« on: February 21, 2014, 10:16:53 AM »
Recolors the names of everyone in chat based off of their Blockland ID.

The way it works is something like this.  My BLID is 12465.  So:
1+2+4+6+5 = 18

The color's are based off of Trueno's Old Colorset.  Color 18 in that colorset is a transparent white.  Since text doesn't support transparent colors, and most of the transparent colors have the same RGB values as the regular bright colors, I used the alpha value to darken the color blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.  Attached is a list of the Colorcodes and their attached hex values.

Things to know.
  • This mod recreates the chat function from scratch, so it is NOT compatible with other chat mods that also recreate the chat function from scratch.
  • [0] You cannot change what colors it uses without editing the mod itself.
(yeah sure I could fix it to load from a file and make it editable, but I'm not getting paid)
  • Some user's may get the color brown.

I pulled some stuff from Script_ColoredNames to make this.  So credit to Korabar for that one.

Add-Ons / Script_RemoveBricks
« on: February 18, 2014, 05:57:37 PM »
This script sets the ui name, category, and subcategory of all default, non-addon bricks to "".  Effectively removing them from the game.  You can prevent certain bricks from being disabled by just //commenting them out.

Some things to note:
  • There is probably a better method for doing this.
  • [0]This only disables DEFAULT non-addon bricks. (The ones that come with the game and can't normally be disabled.)
  • Since they ARE default, expect errors and warnings in the console.
  • [0]More than anything this is just a toy to play around with.  That's what I made it for.

Attached is a list of all datablocks affected.

EDIT: Ooh I forgot to add 1x3f to that list.  It's in the mod but just- pretend it's on the list as well.

Add-Ons / Brick_Extra65
« on: February 16, 2014, 06:56:09 PM »
I took the 65 degree Ramp 2x brick from Tophius' Brick_ExtraRamps and made 4 new versions of it.

4x, 8x, 12x, 16x.  The orientation in the pictures is weird because the orientation of the original brick is weird.

You should find these useful if you plan on making a pyramid out of 65 degree ramps.

Add-Ons / Client_JoinGUIHostname_DGEdit
« on: January 12, 2014, 06:36:51 PM »
Hey there I found this mod in my Add-ons folder and I've been using it for a while.

Code: (description.txt) [Select]
Title: JoinGUI Mod Hostname
Author: Chrono
This separates the host's name from the server name, and displays the host's name to the far right.

It's really old, so there were a couple of issues with it.

1. RTB has updated where they store their preferences.  This mod uses the old RTB preferences file to figure out if rtb is installed or not, and then executes itself accordingly.  Big problem if RTB has been uninstalled, or the older version was never installed.(works fine for me but not for any newbies)
2. Badspot updated the way the server list displays host names.  Now if your name ends with an s, on the server list it will end with a s' instead of a 's.  So Glass'  instead of Glass's.  This confuses the mod and makes the host name appear as a big ol '                 ', and screws with the server name as well.

Anyhow I fixed the issue with the 's and s'.  And I ignored the rtb issue and just forced it to act as if rtb is installed.

SO. tl;dr things you should know.

This mod needs rtb to work right.
The original mod was made by Chrono, not me.
This is what it will look like:

General Discussion / Steam - Linking Blockland Directories [Windows]
« on: December 16, 2013, 10:37:36 PM »
I heard Blockland was on steam, and after transferring my key over I found I was facing a unique problem.  I wanted to launch Blockland through steam, and get all of the achievements, trading cards etc., without compromising my ability to create/modify Add-Ons and such.  In order to do this I wanted to force Steam to launch Blockland from my documents folder.

And so after a quick jaunt through the internets I found a neat little command that lets me link directories together.  Essentially making a little shortcut for steam to jump through to get to my Blockland directory.

Here's the command I used:
Code: [Select]
mklink /J "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Blockland" C:\Users\Dglider\Documents\Blockland

Here is the syntax:

Code: [Select]
C:\>mklink
Creates a symbolic link.

MKLINK [[/D] | [/H] | [/J]] Link Target

/D      Creates a directory symbolic link.  Default is a file
                symbolic link.
/H      Creates a hard link instead of a symbolic link.
        /J      Creates a Directory Junction.
Link    specifies the new symbolic link name.
Target  specifies the path (relative or absolute) that the new link
                refers to.

Here are my sources:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1587923
http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/1580/is-it-possible-to-install-steam-games-to-two-different-locations

And here are some step-by-step instructions on how I set it up:

This is all for Windows 7/Vista.

1.  Go to "C:\Users\[username]\Documents"
2.  Rename the Documents\Blockland folder from "Blockland" to "BlocklandTemp"
3.  Create a new folder called "Blockland".
4.  Uninstall Blockland using Steam.(make sure you save any stuff you want to keep)
5.  Open up "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common"
6.  Delete the common\Blockland folder from there.(the uninstall doesn't remove it sadly)
7.  Run cmd.exe.(as admin if possible, but that's just a good habit to get into for these things)
8.  type in
Code: [Select]
mklink /J "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Blockland" "C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Blockland"
9.  Hit enter.
10.  Reinstall Blockland using steam.
11.  Go to "C:\Users\[username]\Documents" again.
12.  Delete the Documents\Blockland folder along with everything steam just installed in it.
13.  Rename "BlocklandTemp" back to "Blockland"
14.  Launch Blockland through steam.
15.  Pat yourself on the back.

Thought process...
Ok I only want to do this once(no troubleshooting for me) so I want a method that will work without complications.  Thus I need to make sure steam is using the shortcut.  So I want it to install BL using the shortcut.  I don't want steam to install over my current profile, so lets rename that and make a new folder to link to.  Alright, now I can't create the link with a folder by the same name already there, so lets uninstall BL from steam and delete the folder.  Ok link creation time.  Since Program Files has a space in it I need to put that entire address in quotations.  Hit enter, check that it works.  Yes it does, great.  Now let's reinstall Blockland through steam. And delete the installation steam just put there.  Now just rename our old Blockland folder back aaaand launch through steam.   Success! ^.^

Modification Help / 1-way plane bricks
« on: December 13, 2013, 12:30:20 AM »
Hey these exist.

Unfortunately, while they ARE bricks, they don't really meet my standards as a releasable add-on.  They require a floating bricks script which is in the bad add-on cache.  But hey! If you have a working copy like I do and/or just want them so you can stare at the pretty ghost brick, feel free to pm me and I'll send em to you.

They are 1-way single plane bricks I made for a crouch-race type dealio.  I have them set up so I can place them inside of other blocks, but unfortunately this means unless you break some key functions of the game you will always get a float error when trying to place them.

The print on them is a custom ModTer texture.  I can send that too if it tickles your fancy.

Help / Authentification error shuts down server
« on: December 02, 2013, 02:49:40 PM »
Hey, so I was hosting a server on my computer, just a regular ingame server, not a dedi or anything like that.  And I got an authentication error.  Normally this would not be a problem as, normally, I host a dedicated server.  Authentication fails, I get kicked out, rejoin, no big deal.  However since this was a regular ingame server, as it kicked me out, it also shut down the server.  I only lost a few minutes of progress but I can imagine this being a huge problem for someone with a large amount of work put into the game.

Naturally the easy solutions are to just host a dedicated server, save often, get a better internet connection etc.  But, Ahem, I'd like to host a regular server without issues like this.

I'll post the console log.  I have a TON of add-ons enabled(many old and sketchy) but none of them have anything to do with server authentication.

So Badspot, please check this out and see if, indeed, an authentication error for the host will shut down a normally hosted internet server.

The error occurs on line 5840.

General Discussion / A Server Preference Questionnaire
« on: September 12, 2013, 11:08:28 PM »
Hey I wanted to make a server but I thought I'd go a-information-collectin before I started it up.

So I created a little questionnaire to help me decide what/how/why.

Have you had fun at any servers recently?  If so, what server?

What kind of server do you think you could have fun at?

Are there are any mods that are required for your participation? ie. Duplicator, Fillcan, VCE...

That's pretty much it. ^.^
