General Discussion / I've been looking through some old chat logs.
« on: February 02, 2013, 04:26:03 AM »
So, I've been going through some old chat logs, and I've noticed a trend.  In general, the community surrounding Blockland has become alot less... fun.  Just, in general, the users are more whiny, more likely to harass you, or just plain old stupid and unwilling to learn.  Maybe it's just me, I've been playing for a long time, so naturally my perception of other users has changed(along with my responses).  Or it could be the fact that I haven't hosted for a while.  All of these chat logs are from a time when I hosted just about every day of the week.  Now I just hang out in other people's servers, or mess around in my own passworded server.

Is it just me?  Has anyone else noticed this as well?

I would post the chat log I'm dealing with, but its 3.44MB(dating from 12/28/11 to today), so It's going to take a while to go through and remove all of the... personal stuff(not just my own personal stuff either).

Suggestions & Requests / New Brick Saver
« on: January 24, 2013, 09:08:05 PM »
Ok, so the current brick saving system is really lacking.  It saves bricks, events, colors etc just fine.  But I've had quite a few issues with ownership.  From my understanding it saves the ownership on every brick that is not supported by another brick.  This would be fine, if people couldn't build on each other's bricks.  But you can, so, the system needs to be changed.  Hence, my suggestion.

A separate brick saver that saves the ownership on all bricks.

While I realize the default brick saver works the way it does to save space, It does not work well for long, drawn out community builds.  Ownership gets screwed up, and you have to resort to add-ons like the duplicator, or setBrickOwnership to fix it.

Anyhow the end result should look something like this:

Code: [Select]
1x4x5 Window" -27.5 21.25 1.5 0 1 0  0 0 1 1 1

Except it would look like that throughout the whole save.

I hope someone can make this.  And good luck to those who try.

Gallery / VCE - RPG Tree
« on: January 12, 2013, 12:54:21 AM »
I made a RPGish tree with VCE.  Then I made a video about it.

video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MoSgrdjQxc

This particular project shows a little about using text commands and VCE.  For example in this video you can say "yield 2 6" in team chat to change the amount of logs yielded by the tree.

I would like to set up a way of saving and loading the settings for the trees via VCE.  Also maybe a separate admin-only tool to change the prefs, so I don't have to depend on the keys.

Gallery / Alarm System
« on: January 07, 2013, 04:00:23 PM »
I made a little alarm system and recorded a video explaining how it works.

I think I stumbled quite a bit while recording it.  But the cabin... gawd I love the cabin.
Anyhow, blarp.

General Discussion / VCE Projects
« on: January 05, 2013, 01:42:13 AM »
Hay der!  I'd say I'm pretty good at VCE and eventing in general.  So if anyone has something they'd like to see created, I'd love to give it a shot.

I'd post the results on the forums of course (with some notes about how things work).  And, if this topic is still alive, I'll put a link here as well.

-edit-

Add-Ons / Mount Command
« on: December 19, 2012, 11:18:17 PM »
Hey look! Dglider made an add-on that's not a blatant ripoff of another add-on!  Woooo!
Or to be more accurate, I didn't just copy and paste from another script and edit a few values. :o

Anyhow this add-on basically just gives admins access to the .mountobject command from the console.
There are 5 different commands included here.  3 of which require the use of the /getid command.  Fancy I know.

/mountid mounterID mounteeID mountpoint
/mountp2id name mounteeID mountpoint
/mountid2p mounterID name mountpoint
/mountp2p name name mountpoint
/mountnb _name _name  mountpoint

The first one is for mounting two objects together.  Such as a tank turret on a stunt plane.

The second one is for a situation where you can't actually get in the vehicle.  Such as if you mounted the turret to point 0 on the stunt plane and wanted to actually get in and fly the stunt plane around.

The third one is for mounting objects onto you.  Such as a tank turret on your head.

The fourth is just cause it made sense to add it as well.

The fifth is just like the first, but using named vehicle spawns.

link: http://www.mediafire.com/?a9d10h08lcyspsr

Please note that to use any of the commands that require an ID you must point your faceparts at an object and type /getid to get the ID of that object.
Also please note that BL is a wonderful example of prime coding technique and most things can't be mounted onto each other.

Update 1.1

- shrunk the code a little
- made the attempt message white

Update 1.2

- added /mountnb command

Suggestions & Requests / A Server Topics Board
« on: December 19, 2012, 11:10:04 AM »
Right now the general discussion board is flooded with topics about Servers.

Can this stop?  Please?

I'm not saying I don't enjoy being bombarded with news about servers I will probably never visit, but-- wait, no, that's exactly what I'm saying never mind.

I don't enjoy being bombarded with topics about servers I don't care about and it would be easier to ignore them if they were in their own private section.

There are certainly enough of them to warrant a new section.  So, uhm... please?

Off Topic / You know you're from Blockland when...
« on: December 01, 2012, 12:31:43 PM »
So I found this text file in my documents folder.  I have no idea where it came from, but I thought some of them were funny so...

Code: [Select]
You know you're from Blockland when...

...you constantly hear wrench, hammer, printer, build and join/leave noises randomly throughout the day
...you constantly scale and size things in your mind and wonder if you'd be able to build it
...you keep re-arranging the things on your desk to align to an imaginary grid.
...you start all your texts with "t"
...you try to enter a car by jumping on it
...you laugh at people with white shirts and red sleeves
...you buy a red hammer at the store and hit people you don't like with it
...you avoid cakes at all costs
...you flap your arms all over a car to try to flip it over
...you look at a brick wall and internally berate the designer for being a spammy forget
...you Wave your hand infront of a door with a knob to try open it

Suggestions & Requests / The Alt+Enter keybind
« on: October 04, 2012, 01:16:30 AM »
Suggestion:  Get rid of the Alt + Enter keybind.  Or make it toggleable.

It takes at least thirty seconds for my computer to switch to and from full-screen mode.

I often mistakenly hit it while building.  I use the laptop building system.  So I often hit alt for super-shift and enter to place a brick at almost the same time.

I can't speak for others but for me at least it's really annoying.

Maps / Slate 3 DG
« on: July 08, 2012, 06:20:53 PM »
Ok so a long long time ago in a server far far away, Nooblet 2.0 made some streets for a City RPG.  I copied them and added an extra level to give as a gift to the host of the City RPG in hopes that he would use it, and it would be awesome.

Anyhow the CityRPG shut down just a day after I finished the basic design.  I thought it was still cool so I finished it and put it into a map anyway.

A long time later I added some grassish walls and viola, you have the map you see here today.

Don't bother me about the weird blue/green lines.  That's Badspot's problem.

gr8dayseth made a version of this map out of bricks.  You can find that further down the page or you can download it here. ^.^

Off Topic / Ode to Skis
« on: July 05, 2012, 02:23:57 AM »
I was talking to Ostinyo about Blockland physics a short while ago and this happened:

"Ode to Skis"

Oh skis oh skis oh lovely skis
Why must your collisions fail so
I slide down the hill
   Riding fast
      Snow  trailing behind

But oh whats this
   I see a friend
I greet him with a wave
But sadly, such dire straits I seem to have lost attention
to what was in front of me

Smash bash crash fwing
Another and I both fly away and
A stranger yells "WTF! NOOB"
   And I must reply
Sorry mate, this is blockland.
   We're on skis.
And physics, sadly, need not apply.

General Discussion / Server Status(Re-hosted)
« on: June 08, 2012, 03:46:38 AM »
At about 10PM yesterday afternoon I set out to get Zack0Wack0's Server Status notifier working again.

At 1:43 this morning, I succeeded.  I am certainly NOT good at coding but I managed to cut a few things out to get it working again.  I am now hosting it on a free website from 000webhost.com.

So yeah, looks ugly, but it's working.

http://dglider.site40.net/serverstatus/server-status2.php?h=Badspot

To use it simply replace "Badspot" with another username, then put img tags around it or something.

You can find the source here: http://dglider.site40.net/code.php

EDIT: Added Source Link
Thanks to Zack0Wack0 for leaving the code for this thing on github.  I now know 100% more about PHP than I did yesterday.

General Discussion / Crouch Racing Map Ideas
« on: May 08, 2012, 09:03:26 PM »
Hello there person reading this.  I need ideas for my next crouch racing map.

I went to the effort of making a video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS0Nk339Vqg

So, yeah.  Watch that if you want.

What I have so far:

Edit: Yes I realize that the new update will render this map useless.  However, since I have no idea when the update is going to be released, I am going to continue making maps as usual.
