But, the best way to pick locks isn't bobby pins, its 16g needles and torsion drivers.
Well, I kind of want to learn to do it with a bobby pin.  I mean what are the chances that you'll have some 16g needles and a torsion driver when locked in a supermarket.  ;)

Then again, what are the chances you get locked in a supermarket in the first place.  :o

Off Topic / Bobby Pin Key
« on: April 28, 2011, 01:46:16 AM »
Ho hum another boring afternoon.  I was sitting in "the kitchen" thinking about how bored I was when it occurred to me to try lockpicking!

So I looked it up, figured out how It worked, and utterly failed.  Not only did not not have access to a proper torsion wrench, but I lacked any nice, old, doorknobs to pick.  I attempted to pick the pantry door lock but, alas I had no idea what I was doing.

Thus I figured I might as well try picking a door that I had a key to.  That way I could atleast figure out where I needed the pins to be for the door to open.  This didn't work either.

Anyhow it occurred to me to bend a bobby pin into the shape of my key.  And try to use that.   Aaand It worked!  I had a little trouble with getting the bent bobby pin into the keyhole, so I used a straightened out paperclip to push all of the tumblers up.  Then I simply had to insert the bobby pin and I was in business!  Or so I thought.  It turns out the keyhole went alot farther back then I had presumed.  So I had to mark how long the actual key was so I didn't "get lost" in the keyhole.  Used a flathead screwdriver to turn the knob thingy.

So yeah.  Moral of the story-  picking locks is harder than it looks.  Especially if you have no idea what you're doing. ;)  But its still fun!  That feeling you get when you finally get the door open... it's just amazing.  I think I may have to buy some real lockpicking tools.  Maybe a guidebook.

Please note possessing lockpicks is illegal in some states.

The government takes so much money from paychecks.

Well which would you rather have, taxes or dirt roads.

Actually I think there's this deal you can do with the goverment where you pay your taxes at the end of the year instead of them taking it out of your pay automatically.  Still havta pay though. :/

I didn't know that.

You should try it the next time you use the mission editor.

Turn off IRC.

If someone PMs you while you're working, and you answer, it creates an unused script object within the map.

Im making a tool that opens a door when you hit the door with it.  Sort of like an universal key.  It would get you through the door wether it was yours or not.  It just kinda opens the door, and sets it uncolliding and unraycasting.  Then reverses the process.  Only problem is I need to make it tell the difference between a door and a regular brick.  I don't want you to be able to just hit any old brick and walk through.

No, I just need it to tell the difference between an object that is using the Content System, and one that is not.

What can I use to tell if an object is one of the JVS Content variety.

I'vs tried getclass but that just tells me it's a fxDTSBrick.
I also tried getdatablock but I don't know how to get it to tell me what the datablock IS.

Any advice?

if you have Windows XP :3
-snip-
If you have WinRAR.  If you don't either get it, or use the nice little folder icon with a zipper on it.

Ostinyo needs to add this to his tutorial...

Open up the .mis file.  Look at the field that says mission name.  Change it to whatever name you want to see on the map list.  The mission name field should be near the top.

If it still doesn't work find a large heavy hammer and vent all of your anger out on the most expensive thing you can find.  ;)

Before I forget, use notepad to edit he mis file.

Aren't you supposed to have a desertedisand.png/jpg file in there too?  I don't know if it's necessary, but it might be worth a shot.

Also, open your .mis file and check what it's "mission name" is.  It should be near the top.  Change it to Deserted Island or something.  That field is what determines what your map is called in the maplist you use when choosing a map in Blockland.  Edit the mis file with notepad or something similar.

     Good luck!
