Off Topic / Re: The Computer Megathread
« on: November 04, 2012, 10:07:05 AM »
So, I am planning on purchasing a custom PC, and I have come up with a list of parts.

Just wanted to know if this list is pretty good, since I am fairly unexperienced with PC parts.

It'd be nice to hear some recommendations. I'd also like to note I have a fair budget. I am going to sell my Mac for around $700 - $1000, plus I have some money with me.

The fact that the radio noises from Portal are legitimate SSTV transmissions is pretty creepy to me.

Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex

The disk got all scratched and stuff from my early childhood mistakes.  :panda:

I may just buy another copy just for nostalgia's sake.

But aren't 2d games coded in a different language?

Not necessarily. For example, Lua is used in the Love2D engine, but then it is also used by 3D games like ROBLOX, and GMod.

But indeed, I agree with the suggestion of starting with a 2D game. It's easier to work with flat space other than worrying about 3D models, and textures. It gets
the basics of making a good game into your head. Once you get the hang of it, and make a couple of complete games, you can move on to 3D games.

So starting with Love2D would be your best bet. I'm actually also learning to code as well. I can help you with the basics if you'd like.

Am I the only soul who thinks the anvils look hideous, and thinks beacon blocks are very ridiculously expensive to upgrade?

I'd give Unity a go.

It has detailed tutorials, and you can make stuff from scratch.

So is this just Age of Chivalry with entrepreneur ed out graphics and having to cost money, or...?

It is actually a complete overhaul of the original. They have changed pretty much everything, and have added several new mechanics and features.

Someone host a server

I'm working on one, but I am pretty bad with networking for games, unless the game uses the source engine. :c

It'll be up eventually. I currently have the shortcut functioning properly, I just have to figure out how to make the server available to you guys.

Everywhere I go I hear people spouting off about this game.
I have the money for it, but im so hesitant to buy anything nowadays :c

I recommend looking at the combat tutorial videos in the OP, because they demonstrate the gameplay pretty accurately.

But in general, this is a very fun game, and it's definitely worth the price.

This game basically is the common FPS variant mashed in with the ability to build ugly-textured cubes.

Unless this is what you're looking for, move along.

I got my account back! But now in case of any phishing software, I will reinstall Windows.

The BL server should be up tomorrow.

Games / Re: Steam Account Being Hijacked
« on: October 16, 2012, 01:58:24 PM »
Bump.

I checked out of school, because of what happened yesterday according to my friend. I do not want to be VAC banned, and have to pay around $1,000 to get my games back.

I have confirmed this is a hacker, and I am pretty sure the hacker is using a 3rd party program to use my account.

So, I asked my friend to monitor my account, and he actually found something very interesting. Apparently the hacker started up several games at once, because my friend claimed he saw several 'x is playing...' prompts pop up one after another. This alone confirms this is a hacker, and I came to a theory of a 3rd party program being used, because I know Steam does not allow you to start several games up at once. This scares me.

Anybody have any knowledge regarding this, or any ideas on how to resolve this problem? I still have my ticket up and going, so I should hopefully be on track.

EDIT: Steam Support wrote back to me, and reset my password. Everything is fine now. :D
