i don't really have a philosophy. more rather it's just comparing 2 of the same things to one another.

majority of BL players have minecraft
minecraft is more popular, thus it has more users.
it's luck of the draw. there's millions of indie games out there, some have 10 players, some have 100, some have 1000, some have 1,000,000. who knows.

most of the games with 1000 players are probably better than minecraft...
