Off Topic / Cool/funny quotes
« on: August 10, 2011, 02:47:17 AM »
Favorite quotes anyone? Be it from famous smart people, stupid comments from forum nobodies, whatever. I need something to put on my steam profile.

Current profile quotes:
“A person's maturity consists in having found again the seriousness one had as a child”
~ Friedrich Nietzsche

"Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."
~ C.S. Lewis

“We're so busy watching out for what's just ahead of us that we don't take time to enjoy where we are.”
~ Calvin and Hobbes

“Maturity is that time when the mirrors in our mind turn to windows and instead of seeing the reflection of ourselves we see others.”
~ Douglas Engelbart

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."
~ Albert Einstein

"Fluttershy makes everything better."
~ Anonymous

“People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realize how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world.”
~ Calvin and Hobbes

« on: August 08, 2011, 05:55:28 PM »
I've noticed a lot of nice people here so I'm making a topic that will list all the nice people.
If we just don't ignore them this place could be a lot nicer.
Here, I'll start:

*Magick* Mage
fluttershy
brickyboob
This horrible list

Please post more people who are nice.

I have, in my hand, this CD. It has files from 1996, and the system requirements are Windows 3.1-95.

I can't get it to run on my Windows 7 :(

How2? Is there some other comparability mod besides the ones in file properties? I've turned down the resolution and colors to the correct value.

Off Topic / The best downloadable game?
« on: August 06, 2011, 06:02:39 PM »
What is the best downloadable game ever? Your opinion? It can't be steam enabled because those games are huge and require a steam account and connection to play.

My opinion:
Want a game with a small file size, multiplayer, and single-player capabilities? A game that doesn't require an internet connection?

Superfighters

It's like a 2D FPS arena, with multiple game modes, and up to 8 total players. 1 and 2 player modes, and 7 bots at a time. Very addictive imo.

So what's your opinion?

Every time I try to view a video I get something along the lines of 'cannot connect to youtube', even when the Internet browser works fine. Ideas?

Ferget post count total, how about your average posts per day? The info is right next to your total post count on your profile.

Off Topic / Should Off-Topic be key only?
« on: July 25, 2011, 10:31:01 PM »
As far as I know, the two sides of the idea are here:

Yes: trolls and alts are harder to make, due to the fact that you'll have to spend $20 again if you wish to continue.

No: Off-Topic=not about Blockland, therefore shouldn't require a Blockland key.

Help / Blockland forum account login question
« on: July 22, 2011, 05:34:23 PM »
Is there some way to get the forum system to log off all other systems that have saved your account? Like with SteamGuard, make it so that your computer is the only one able to log in unless you reenter your password on another computer.

Games / Aperture Science vs Black Mesa
« on: July 18, 2011, 03:53:12 PM »
Black Mesa
Pros:
Made the Gravity gun,  HEV suit, and TAU CANNON
Made trans-dimensional teleportation system
Worked with Gordon Freeman
Made much better games
Cons:
Almost all killed by aliens, zombies, and soldiers

Aperture Science
Pros:
Made the portal gun and light bridges
Made the most advanced AI ever
Cons:
Every single person was killed by a faulty AI
Sunk their own research vessel competing with Black Mesa, and even in Portal 1 it says that Black Mesa is more successful :3

Here's a post to consider reading:
>d0g could crush GLADoS and the co-op bots to dust.
>Black Mesa auto-turrets have a full 360 degrees of sight and can only be knocked over by actually being hit with a weapon of some sort.
>Black Mesa saved our universe twice and the Xenian outworld once, making for a full three universe savings. Aperture couldn't even save themselves.
>Black Mesa had an alien army unleashed in their facility, zombies eating everything, their entire facility deteriorating and going haywire, and the US military ordered to kill all of its employees all happening simultaneously and had six survivors and counting. Aperture had a single AI go haywire and had only two survivors.
>Gels have very few practical applications. Gluon guns and Tao cannons are infinitely useful.
> the portal gun can only bring you as far as you can see. The Black Mesa Teleporter can bring you across the globe, and can, in fact, bring you to a whole other universe.
>Black Mesa at least makes a strong effort to keep emplopyees safe.
>For twenty years, Cave Johnson was struggling to control his company. For twenty years, Wallace Breen successfully ran the entire planet and all of humanity.
>while Aperture may have to long fall boots, Black Mesa has an entire suit of loving power armor.

I wonder who is better.

Off Topic / Fun thing to do with javascript
« on: July 17, 2011, 01:56:22 AM »
This is very old, but I know this will probably be new to a few people. Might as well share.

1. Go to image heavy page
2. Put this in the address bar:

javascript:R=0; x1=.1; y1=.05; x2=.25; y2=.24; x3=1.6; y3=.24; x4=300; y4=200; x5=300; y5=200; DI=document.getElementsByTagName("img"); DIL=DI.length; function A(){for(i=0; i-DIL; i++){DIS=DI[ i ].style; DIS.position='absolute'; DIS.left=(Math.sin(R*x1+i*x2+x3)*x4+x5)+"px"; DIS.top=(Math.cos(R*y1+i*y2+y3)*y4+y5)+"px"}R++}setInterval('A()',5); void(0);

3. Press enter
4. ???
5. Profit?

Ripping things off of old backup drives, looking for nostalgia.

Netscape Installer get!

I highly doubt it works anymore, so I just got Netscape Navigator 9.0
Is there some way to make it run on Windows 7? It probably won't work, but I miss my Windows 2000.

EDIT: Holy crap the installer worked
