I realized how much school is secretly appreciated, and this topic seems like a good conversation starter. What is your favorite subject?

Seriously, I just chatted with 2 of their "agents", it's not part of their church. At least not the online section. What Christianity sub-religion came up with this claim again?

Off Topic / Something to say on Birthers
« on: May 19, 2011, 09:53:33 PM »
Recently President Obama has been getting an earful from a certain conspiracy group known as the "Birthers". The ultimate goal of the group is to discredit Obama via accusing him of being born in Kenya, instead of Hawaii. Recently, Obama became so annoyed at these accusations that he released his birth certificate. The Birthers did not give up.

Multiple videos on Youtube show someone moving and hiding the layers found on the photocopy of his birth certificate. The claim is that things means the document was tampered with. Is this legitimate?

Nope.

Here is why:
Quote
It's called OCR (optical character recognition). Acrobat and many scanners do this by default. It detects letters and words on the page and allows you to add selectable text to the document without having to type it in manually.

Notice how when you hide a layer, it's white behind it? If it was truly forged, you wouldn't see any of the background missing. It's white because it doesn't know what's behind the text BECAUSE THE TEXT WAS THERE WHEN IT WAS SCANNED.
Other accusations:
  • "It's fake because the ink is smudged"
  • "It's fake because it states that his father's race is African, but it should say Bro"
  • "African isn't a race"
  • "Some people are really good at Photoshop"
  • "There is no way that paper was available in the 1960s"

This is ridiculous.

Off Topic / Suspicious site

There is a popular(?) website called Neobux. It claims that you gain money simply by browsing advertisements. I have heard many mixed reviews of it (http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/neobux.com/msgpage?page=1#reviews), so I'm not sure who to trust on this. It sounds way too good to be true.

Is this a scam?

Games / Most legit multiplayer game
« on: April 02, 2011, 02:52:51 AM »
So, good games for 2 or more players, online/same console/LAN. By this I mean fair, balanced, even etc. Where unfair advantages cannot be abused.

---
I vote for Super Smash Brothers Melee and Brawl as the best. Every character is perfectly balanced(low speed-high power, then vice versa). There are no un-lockable items you need to spend hours playing to get that completely messes up the balance of play. And especially no unlock able character decorations. You can pick levels easily and each player gets the same percentage of damage/advantages from it, or whether you get affected at all. And Brawl has lag-free online multiplayer too.

You could also argue about HL2 Deathmatch being balanced, seeing how the weapons are based around finding them around the map, but the design in general is pretty obsolete. Still, the levels can be really cool (dm_runoff ftw).

Team Fortress 2 used to be cool. But the new item and hat system changes have completely ruined the gameplay. New weapon releases cause everyone to try and get them, which then sets a complete dominance on the new item owners until everyone either gets that item or learns how to take advantage over its downside. The Amputator is a good example. The taunt gives your team mates 75 health from a distance, and there is no limit on how many times you can taunt. Oh, and it has no downsides. Period.

The Left4Dead versus mode is decent, but it got even more unbalanced for its sequel. Special infected tactics can overtake even the best of Survivors, such as Spitting at a downed player.

So, what do you think? What multiplayer game is the most balanced?

Modification Help / Particle/Emitter datablock help
« on: March 27, 2011, 03:25:51 AM »
Erm, can I have a brief description of what each value means? The base file I'm using for an add-on, the emitters are absolutely hideous, but sometimes messing with them makes the add-on refuse to load.

So, can someone point out the limits of the variables and what each one represents? Some are obvious, but I need to know what each color/size/"time" value corresponds to what characteristic.

Help / Breaking lag freezes
« on: March 19, 2011, 04:22:29 PM »
It's happened to me so many times. The familiar yellow icon pops up, I freeze completely, and sit there with the bits sent set to 16 and not changing. Is there anyway to make it catch up with the server better? Eventually the game crashes with being lag frozen so long. I've tried many things, but none work.

How do I break lag freezes?

Help / Mouse control
« on: February 20, 2011, 11:24:52 PM »
So I've recently found aiming and flying vehicles rather annoying. Why? Because when I turn too fast it seems as though my mouse continues moving in one direction without stopping for about 1/2 a second. I've also had it stop working entirely for a longer period of time, which gets quite annoying in TDMs. And this doesn't seem to happen anywhere else, just Blockland. My mouse's battery is fully charged and has perfect connection.

So, what's wrong?

General Discussion / Favorite Blockland map

Well, what is it?

I assume quite a few people will choose a default map, but I've always like Camerie Island for some reason.

Add-Ons / The Holy Hand Grenade

The Holy Hand GrenadeV1
Quote
One...Two...Five! (three sir) Three!

The story:
Narkro555 was playing Blockland, when he decided to re-watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Suddenly, he had the idea to create an add-on based on the weaponry of the movie. He then set out to create that add-on and hope it didn't suck like every single other one he's made. After modeling it, he tried scripting with the Spear script, but being stupid and lazy he said "Fack it" and used the HE Grenade script (Kudos TheGeek, Pload, Rotondo and Ephialtes). Then he finally decided to publish this add-on.

Stuff:
-Deletes from inventory when thrown, but multiple can be carried
-Kicks ass dealing with Killer Rabbits
-Doesn't make the game crash when thrown
-Slightly less damage then other grenades, but more radius and force
-Sounds credit to Worms: Open Warfare 2
-Script credits: TheGeek, Pload, Rotondo and Ephialtes's HE grenade script for a very useful base, thank thou
-Model: Me
-Testers: Pecon7 (big help and suggestions), King of Losers (well, he strangely went offline before telling me about his test)

-Version 2 will have more features (and possibly a new model if more input is found) due to finding a helpful scripter just now

General Discussion / Blockland: 64-bit?
« on: February 18, 2011, 06:48:24 PM »
Recently I've been practicing Blender modeling, but the models always crash Blockland. I followed DarkStar's tutorial perfectly. I've already scripted and modeled add-ons. I made sure both Blender and the exporter were up-to-date, and they are. So, I inquired in the Modification help section...

Is Blockland 32-bit?

And does Blender 64-bit make models that work for it? My models always worked when I had a 32-bit laptop. I'm also wondering whether running 32-bit Blender will work on my 64-bit laptop. Anyone got ideas?

Modification Help / Blender 64bit vs. DTS exporter
« on: February 14, 2011, 04:21:58 PM »
Before my old laptop broke, I had blender in the 32-bit version. My new laptop is 64bit, and the exports it produces crash the game. And all links to new DTS exporters seem to have broken too. None on the Blender website, and the link in DarkStar's tutorial also doesn't work. I've been scripting and mounting the models the exact same way I've done with other add-ons, the ones I made that work.'

Anyone got compatible links?

Off Topic / Half-Life movie?
« on: September 18, 2010, 11:38:44 PM »
There's quite a few fake previews on Youtube, but it seems like a good idea once you think about it.

Both Half-Life and HL2 are good, but I think Half-Life would make a better movie because:
1) Simpler plot
2) More violence/gore (sadly, some people look for that in movies)
3) The Half-Life series is awesome anyway
4) 3D special effects will almost certainly be necessary, and a select movie audience also looks for movies with realistic effects above the plot (sadly)

Cons:
1) Gordon's voice. Even if they decide to get a voice actor, some fans may not like how he sounds
2) A big part of the game is what you do yourself, so having actors/special effects do it for you may be tricky

But in general, if you get past the cons, it seems like a really good movie idea.

Also, Modern Warfare 2 seems like a good movie, considering the great plot and how war movies tend to do well. But no matter what, the movies will have to be altered in many ways, considering the plot is based off a plot where you do most of the things yourself.

Note: this is about a possible movie about 2 great videogames. Keep hate rants about HL2 and MW2 to another topic...

Games / Question on Half-Life 2 mods
« on: September 17, 2010, 08:04:12 PM »
I just downloaded Riot Act, a Half-Life 2 mod. It has its own page in the Steam store, but it's an external link. Two questions:
1. Is there anything I need to do before I install it (besides download it)
2. Is it possible for it to ban my Steam account? It's adding a game based on a game downloaded through steam, but isn't really a part of steam.
