Science is loving expensive. 'Passion' is great, but whoring one's self out for money is also important. It's a necessary evil.

I know. But why not give people funding-specific money, rather than just an absurd cash prize? You could give so many potential astronomers a heads-up with that kinda cash. Even little stuff would be great, like giving a nice personal telescope to all those kids who like to just look at the sky.

100 million is quite a bit. This could easily spawn some dishonest attempts, and ruin astronomical science for a long time. Why not just have people do it because they're passionate about it?

I really wish people would stop giving these things so much attention. Potential shooters are almost always crazy people craving attention. They see this stuff broadcast everywhere, and discover a way for everyone to know their name.

Another suggestion: My grandfather's cane can be screwed off, revealing a vial you can stash drugs or other illicit materials in and not grab attention.
