Go with the 780 or 780 Ti. Single card performance is always better and 2 770's will cost more than a 780 Ti.
yada yada I would recommend AMD cards for those prices yada yada

That aside, wtf you're wrong. Single card performance is not always better. 2 770s will cost more than a single 780 Ti, but they'll perform significantly better, with a much better price/performance ratio. If he were to only go with only a single card, it should be a 6gb version of the 780 and not the ti, because the ti only has 3gb of vram, which isn't good at all for 4k resolution and if he wants to SLI in the future he'll have to completely rebuy. If he's buying bisjac's cards, I would definiteky recommend them because I know he has 4gb variants of the 770s

i heard choosemypc.net is better than Logical Increments? can anyone confirm/deny?
Seems like the $1000 build is better than the one on logicalincrements. Didn't check any of the others, but probably it's better in general. The problem with all of these "give me a budget and I'll give you a build" sites though, is that you're losing your ability to pick components. When people ask other people for a build, they're not entirely sure about just one decision so they go to multiple people for multiple opinions, which is good. But, when it's a nice-looking site, people just buy it without consulting anyone else. It looks like a good tool for a starting point, and then you can customize your build from there

I think the CPU and GPU choices are decent, I really dislike how much it skimps on the motherboard though. I've bought ASRock motherboards before (It tends to recommend them), and they tended to die rather fast.
Jeez, why does everyone here not like ASRock. I've used several ASRock motherboards, and none of them have died. Obviously that proves nothing, but they are indeed a budget motherboard builder. The fact of the matter is, if you want a motherboard on the cheap from a reputable brand, ASRock is pretty much the only choice. There are better motherboards, but they cost more. ASRock boards do what they're supposed to do, for the price they're supposed to do it for.

http://www.logicalincrements.com is a good guide for getting bang for your buck
Not really

what would you suggest without bottlenecking?
Don't pour money into a stuff computer. Just save your money up and get something that's actually worth buying

No, it's fine

how good is it?
You're not going to get an outstanding case for $40

70
can motherboards be bottlenecks for ssds?
Not the motherboard as much as the SATA 6gb/s max transfer speed, but yes.

71
Oh yeah, I'm having some trouble with finding a power supply that'll be good enough for the GTX 760, but I'm sure I'll be able to get a better one for the better card. GPUBoss doesn't appear to list power needs for the cards. :/
Don't use gpuboss, or any site like it (hwcompare, cpuboss, etc.)
All they do is compare on-paper specs and then give it an arbitrary rating. Comparing things like clockspeed is goddamn asinine, and I really hate those sites because of it.

For a 760, you'll probably want 500W or so. You could go lower, but they're usually the same price as the 500W psus.

72
How come "Upgradeability in the future" is listed as a pro for custom built computers? You can purchase new components and install them into pre-built ones, too. For example, I got a pre-build computer that came with an Nvidia GT 625, but I'm gonna replace it with an Nvidia GTX 760.
The biggest difficult in prebuilts for upgrades is the power supply. A lot of OEMs put the bare minimum wattage rating in for the parts you bought, with minimum power cables. I'm sure there's a system builder out there who would let you choose from a list of PSUs, but you'll pay dearly for it. There are probably a few companies on the opposite end of the spectrum that would just solder ram to your motherboard

73
I updated it, is there any way I can save money?
There are cheaper motherboards that are just as good. You should try to find one that's Z97 so you don't have to worry about out of date bios. here's the one I always recommend because of how baller it looks. You also don't need a 750W psu, maybe 550W if you want some headroom. You could save maybe $20 there. Aside from that, I wouldn't worry too much about cutting costs, you have a pretty balanced build.

Any suggestions? Can I safely overclock?

Well, what are your cpu temps under load. If they're at 60C or lower, you probably have some room to overclock

75
You could take the $80 you just saved on fans and put it into an i5-4690k, much better gaming performance for the price and much better suited to be with the 280X. Might as well keep the cpu cooler if you plan on overclocking
