Creativity / After School MIDI
« on: February 16, 2014, 06:46:39 PM »
I sequenced a MIDI version of After School Special.  It's probably not completely accurate, as it's hard to make out certain parts due to the low sound quality of the original.

Download the MIDI

I also rendered it with fancy soundfonts and made it into an Ogg Vorbis loop for use in Blockland.  Maybe as a higher-quality alternative to the default After School Special?

Games / Why do so many RPGs have only one regular battle theme?
« on: February 09, 2014, 08:08:42 PM »
Basically, it occurred to me that like 90% of turn-based RPGs have just one piece of music for regular enemy battles.  Sure, the bosses probably each get their own themes, but frequently-occurring regular battles all have the same music.  This gets REALLY old after hours of play.  Square (Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG) is perhaps the biggest offender.  I'm not much of an Mother fan, but if there's one thing I love about it, it's how every game in the series has lots of battle themes, and as a result entering battle never feels stale.  Why don't more games do this?

General Discussion / Factbot
« on: January 26, 2014, 07:32:12 PM »
Today, I spent about half an hour as "Factbot".  Basically, I used a chatbot that repeats random things it's seen said before, and fed it Wikipedia quotes.  Then, I went to randoms servers.  Here are some of the highlights.

Genuine apologies to Electrk.

No apologies to anyone I pissed off by making no sense.

Suggestions & Requests / Checkpoint Item Saving
« on: January 17, 2014, 07:06:35 PM »
I need a way to make it so checkpoints save a player's items when touched, and set them accordingly upon spawning again.  Does anyone know of or can anyone create a way to do this?

Music / Conker's Bad Fur Day Music Pack
« on: January 16, 2014, 11:29:38 PM »
24 music loops from Conker's Bad Fur Day.  Not quite as many as the Banjo-Kazooie pack, but then Conker's soundtrack isn't quite as large.  The loops themselves tend to be larger, though.  Includes most of the game's looping music, plus Sloprano which doesn't normally loop.

Suggestions & Requests / Guitar that plays music loops
« on: January 12, 2014, 02:39:02 AM »
Since the old instruments thread is dead, I thought I'd start a new one with a more modest request.

Basically, an acoustic guitar that functions like a portable music brick.  With the guitar equipped, you would type /playsong to pick what you want to play from a dialogue like the music bricks settings, then hold primary fire.  By default, "none" would be selected.  With no music selected, no sound plays, but you animate anyway as if you're playing.  Aditionally, the instrument would emit a music note particle effect.

As usual, I have zero modeling/scripting ability, so I can't really contribute myself outside of maybe making some acoustic guitar loops to specifically suit this add-on.  If this alone gets done, it could open the way for more instrument add-ons with similar function.

General Discussion / OlWesternBlocks.ogg
« on: January 10, 2014, 10:27:33 AM »
This is in my Music folder for some reason.  It is 16 seconds of what sounds like a MIDI guitar being played badly, with static and people mumbling in the background.

I didn't make it, and it didn't come with any music packs I've ever downloaded, so I've apparently had it for a while; the update that changed it so downloaded music files are kept in cache.db was years ago.  It was apparently last modified in January 2010.

Can anyone shed some light on what the hell this is exactly?

Something really heavy duty, like this:

With enough organization, I hope to be able to do something like this in Blockland:

Creativity / Isnsntntnstrument; A Short Poem
« on: December 31, 2013, 03:03:08 PM »
"ISNSNTNTNSTRUMENT"

An instrument is instant,
Its interest in its sin;
It tints a tinny instance;
Its hint is in its stint.

Timpani it isn't,
Intermittently it sits;
Still it is its sentiment,
Isnsntntnstrument.

Music / Western Music Pack
« on: December 19, 2013, 07:58:14 AM »
I've accumulated a lot of country/western/bluegrass loops over the years for some reason, so I figured I'd make them into a pack to share with the masses.  Here's a breakdown of what this pack contains.

Footnotes for anyone who cares:
*This and the other 3DUMG loop are based on the MIDI versions, tweaked for volume and played back in glorious SGM.
**An original cover I made for the hell of it.
