Creativity / Re: Game Design Megathread

What otto said, but also keep in mind: Game Maker is basically THE worst thing for 3D design and animation.  Seriously.  If you want to make 3D games, I recommend something else.  I pulled this off because I wanted to see if I could do it, and because I have like 10 years of experience richarding around, I pulled it off.  There is no built-in Z variable, by extension no default handling for any non-x/y object placement or collisions, and all models have to be built in code.  The Robot Mans you see here is a mess of variables that control the angles of his joints, logic that tells him how to pose, and code that sets up the precise angles and positions to draw his box-and-cylinder parts at.  It's a headache.  Only took me 3 days, but still, there's a reason it took me 3 days to make a bare-bones basic platform engine.

For 2D stuff though?  Highly recommend.

speaking design-wise, you might wanna make the arms a different color

that aside nice!

Careful now, he's already blue with head-spikes.  If his arms are a different color from his body he'd just be straight-up Sanic.

maybe you could add rockets to the board to make it look like it has some kind of propulsion. just a visual suggestion.

That's a bit high tech for the hillbilly/western/pirate theme I have going.  Maybe it's magic?

Surfin' Squirrel

(Also sandboarding I guess because those are basically the same thing, right?)

To top it all off, the music is a Wipe Out ripoff that segues into a Misirlou ripoff that turns into some kind of Spanish flamenco before looping.  It's okay, I don't really know either.

Do the bubbles work like they do in Sonic games?
If so, this is a great design.
Waiting for those loving bubbles is stressful.

Basically, yeah.  I knew I had limited oxygen, and I knew I wanted to have breathable air bubbles to regain oxygen without having to completely resurface.  I thought the fish would be a fun way to make breathable bubbles appearing an actual player-forced action and amusing to boot.

Made this for a game
I was thinking that his stance would be different in different areas depending on how dangerous they are.

You could do like I'm doing for Chatters and have him use the first stance if he was just running/jumping around, but stand upright if he stands still long enough.

BLF confirmed plantloveual

I mean, she's cute, yeah, but I think it's time to nip this in the bud before it gets out of hand.

Chatters sez: "Plants are for eatin', not forgetin'!
