i don't think boredom is unhealthy unless you actually do something dangerous because you're bored
I once got so bored I shot myself out of a cannon through a hoop of fire while juggling chainsaws

Sigh. I really just came here for more "non shooting" options. Not to argue the extent of what counts as abuse. If my motivations aren't clear, I'm more open to non shooting options than using the shooting option. Otherwise I would have gone up by now and popped it.

The animal control fee might be worth it. I could just set up a food trap cage and keep it until they show up.

We're talking about mental, not physical, biology here. The elephant cannot do so because it has no vocal cords.
You're dodging the question. We're talking about how some animals feel emotion.
I haven't dodged the question. Animals can feel emotion in only very simple ways. I personally think thats true.

If I was a smart enough creature with no vocal cords finding more active ways of communicating would be one of my top goals. If i get stumped at the lack of vocal cords then I'm just too dumb aren't I?

There's conclusive proof that they're self-aware, they can use tools, and are possibly the second-smartest living organism on the planet. Just because people don't think about where they come from does not mean they don't have emotions.
Speaking on topic, set up a net if you can.
Just because elephants don't perform scientific research doesn't mean they don't question their existance.
If an Elephant can do that, then obviously it may have the drive to try and convince other intelligent creatures that it's not worth hunting. Otherwise survival of the fittest.
Just use water.
But be sure to really wet that cat, if it just gets a few droplets it isn't going to care.
I will most likely try this first.

Why do you exist then?
I don't see the relevance of the question. People argue religion, and other people argue Evolution. Right now I'm more concerned about getting rid of the presence of this cat.

Time to start a poll

What about elephants?

They're the only other organism on the Earth to practice burial rites, or something akin to burial rites.
I'll be waiting for an organized religion or some primitive sign of scientific research among elephants then.

Only morons would think that humans are the only ones with the ability to think
You mean the only ones with the ability to think about the origin of life. Get something to loving stand on.

Most animals have feelings, though.
And you know what they are for though right? It it hurts, stay away from it. If it feels good and there's no danger around, keep doing it. Any creature can tell the difference of hot and cold. It's all instinctual and never comes from a mind with the ability to ponder ones own existence.

You're the idiot here.

The solution is to get a bucket of water ready and throw all the water on the cat when it tries to come in. (You should be doing this outdoors only!) If you do that a couple times (You have to do it every time the cat comes, if you don't splash it one time it will think the problem is over), then it won't come back.
Well looks like we disagree heavily then. Only morons would think that a cat would think about existence and why it's there.

Just scare it away with a broom, it works every time.

If it doesn't run away immediately upon seeing the broom, just push the cat with the broom.
It's going to come back.

Also you can use a bike and slam on your brakes about 3 inches from the cat. That'll scare it senseless.
I don't own a bike. That sounds very silly anyway.

Oh, so since it's legal you think it's just fine and dandy to harm a cat?
/animalabuse
some people just hate cats like that for no reason and do stupid things to them, it really is sickening
You're both idiots. A cat is an animal, not a human being. I believe they have no conscious thoughts or any actual feelings to hurt. Popping it with a BB gun won't kill it. But a sting from something like that gives it something to remember. And I can't afford to give my cat food if some other animal keeps eating it and especially HARMING MY CAT. I keep my cat as a pet, and generally people like it when their pets are healthy. So if you can't count this as defense of my cat rather than me intentionally wishing to inflict pain on this other cat for pleasure is preposterous.
Harming a cat = abuse.
Shooting a cat with a BB gun = abuse.
Killing a cat is wasteful. Shooting a stray, inbred loving cat so I can feed mine is a greater good in my eyes.

What? Do you know anything about BB guns?
I believe that a large percentage of users here know more stuff about BB guns than you do.

So I like to feed my cat. I do it every day. Things are great. But then suddenly within the last few weeks this big black sleek cat has been bullying my cat out of its food by coming up onto the deck. Unfortunately my cat seems to not eat whenever it's indoors so bringing the food in is out of the question. This has in turn been costing me money and keeping my cat from eating. I buy my catfood to feed MY CAT. So when this other cat starts eating it there's going to be problems. It's a collar-less stray. And I don't care if it's a home owned cat without a collar. If it doesn't have a collar I WILL go after it. My cat is too much of a... coward to fight it off.

Things I have done:

I have moved the food to a different location: The starfish of a cat just finds it again.

I have chased the larger cat away multiple times: Still comes back.

I have tossed a rock to spook it: Un-phased as usual.

I have blocked off the area to the food: He always finds a way around

Things I have not yet tried:

Calling animal control: For some reason I don't want to, I feel like they wouldn't give a stuff if I did. And it would probably cost me something

Popping it with a non-lethal airsoft gun: I will eventually do this if other solutions do not work. I'm gonna have to sting it just so it will go away.

Keeping a waterhose secretly rigged to a small rope: I fancy this idea, but I think my area only has one faucet and my hose probably isn't long enough.

Things I won't do:

Kill it: Of course I'm not going to do that. Its just trying to find some food but unfortunately I don't have the budget for two cats and I don't like this one because it's been beating up my cat.

Wound it with something that can break its skin: That would just hurt. and I wouldn't feel good on the inside.

Blunt force traumatize it: Don't want to hurt any of its internal organs.

Leave it alone: I will not leave this cat alone. It has to go.

I'm open to more ideas if anyone has any...
