Yup. I would save up until around Christmas or whatever other holiday you have around it. You could build a computer for $500 but it wouldn't be worth it.

Yup. You shouldn't need a new monitor. As far as gaming goes there really isn't too much of a difference between the 750 and 950 - maybe a few FPS.

On a side note, if it performs 80fps with an i5 and 100000fps with the 950 you really wouldn't see a difference. Just about every monitor right now has a refresh rate of around 60mhz. Most monitors that refresh faster are very expensive or quite old.

The only real advantage is the the ability to support two way x16 PCI-E. Other than that it would be hyperthreading (Useless in gaming and most tasks anyways) and triple channel RAM (As if 16gb is not enough). It is certainly cheaper and probably more worth your money. Assuming that you intend to spend less then $1000.

Here is a really nice combo:

I personally prefer MSI but I do some heavy overclocking. If you did the math, the motherboard is only about $100. This is actually a good thing as you shouldn't dish out too much on motherboards unless you absolutely need a specific feature.

Here's some RAM. And holy stuff, when I built my computer the cheapest DDR3 set was about $95. Ram won't do very much for you performance and most of it you will need to overclock it to the listed frequency anyways.

And finally the video card. The 470 is about the same as the 5850 performance wise. I should let you know that the 470 is more or less over-kill for your first system. I own the 460 and I was able to overclock almost 40% and it performs about the same as the 5850. If you chose to get the 460 make a topic or PM me if you want the run down on overclocking a GPU. (I linked to the 460) The 460 I chose is the EVGA model. EVGA has fantastic service and lifetime warranty. They also allow you send in the card if it doesn't perform as you thought and they will send you a 470 if you pay the difference.

Ahh whatever. Will this work if I assemble it?

Yes it will work.

I would like to offer more input...

First, before you buy the 950 please tell me why you want that over the i5 760.

And again, the GTX 470 is a much better deal and about $20 cheaper or so.

If you don't have a valid reason for getting the i7 950 then I will shun you.

What's your budget? And building a computer is a bit harder than installing a GPU.

I'll include a static band in the parts list when I make one. If this is your first time I would recommend it especially when you are spending alot of money.

The 1090t is a waste of money on less you know how to overclock. Don't spend that much on a motherboard. Shoot for around $150 (I am pretty confident that you don't know the advantages of having a more expensive board. The GTX 470 is a better deal than the 5850. I'll work on RAM and HDD later.

I would drop the 850w PSU for a 600. Use the money you have left to get a gtx 460.

The 450 isn't very good for the cost.

Indeed.

I plan on building my own computer, using a Nvidia GTX 460 graphics card also.

Maybe you should check your topic or PM me so you can don't spend an extra $500.

There are very few games that you can play from a flash-drive. Most games that you could would probably be stuffty.

I honestly wouldn't bother spending that much to upgrade an older processor.

I suggest that you save up and by a more updated motherboard and processor. AMD's new series should be coming around any time now as well as Intel's new processors.

Glad that you decided to join the guild of builders. Almost everybody who posted in this thread is handicapped.
anyways...

You do not need the armor. Although a great case it is overpriced. Shoot for a case between $50-100.

Wireless keyboards and mice are horrid for gaming. I advise you to avoid them.

The GD-80 is a bored made for overclockers. You are not one. You will see no performance difference between that and a $100 board. (I love the GD80 as I use it myself.)

You don't need a 700w power supply. As is, your computer would probably consume 500w. Get a 600w.

Don't get an aftermarket cooler. I guarantee that you will not be able to install it yourself and it is unnecessary. The stock cooler for the i5 will keep you at about 30c.

You don't need a 1.5TB I would advise that you get something between 500 and 1000GB.

And you don't need 1600MHz RAM. You will need to overclock it yourself to get it up those frequencies and even then you will see very little performance upgrades. The RAM will probably be set at 1066 stock.
