I've only noticed it in Just Cause 2, but I haven't played many games due to the fact that I'm tethering Edge from my phone and I just built my pc.

Don't expect to max skyrim with everything on Ultra. I SHOULD be able to, but there must still be some driver issues or sli tweaks they have to do.

This might be a stupid question, but is the cable secure on your monitor and your graphics card?

In which case Ethan, could you make a $700 custom build for me intel/nvidia system.

You do realize that the case you linked to is very small (even for an itx system).

If you really do want a very small system I would suggest something along the lines of this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112265

The case you linked to has a very small power supply and very bad cooling. With the case I linked to you would also be able to use a full size power supply which would be a pretty big advantage if you intend to build this yourself or if you need to upgrade in the future. It also has two pci slots open the back which means that you could put a capable gpu in it.

I've heard of no such things on the market at all, otherwise I'd buy them if they were cheap.

But then again there's the bandwidth and power issues.

You can get them for around $200. Bandwidth is a huge issue because of slow express card slots are. Anything over a 5770 (not sure what current generation cards that compares to) is redundant. Most of the ones I've seen have a separate power supply just for the video card so that you'd have to be plugged in all the time. You also need an external monitor.

Verdict - Impractical

From back to front it's around 15-16 inch
From top to bottom it's around 14-15 inch

Are those measurements from the outside? If you have a HDD cage or some drivebays then you will probably need a bigger case.

Upgrade your monitor. 1366 x 768 is pretty bad.

So I ordered a 50 dollar case that was normally 70 and installed my stuff in it but I needed someone to hold a flashlight to allow me to see my mobo so I asked my dad to hold it. When I got up to grab my CD drive my dad decided to organize my wires. Doing so he ripped the actual last SATA plug left. Oh, but not just that. When he did so one of my fans that mounted on the side window got a wire ripped out of it and now I need a new motherboard and I need to see if they will send me a need fan. fml

wait, wait, wait... Why do you need a new mobo? Did he rip the sata socket off the board? The fan is a pretty easy fix. Just use electrical tape or a soldering iron (if you have it).

forget NO.

I was just building my computer, setting up the Motherboard box for a test setup outside the case. I turned around to get the box ready, and I turned back around to see my dad placed the motherboard on top of the anti-static bag. I panicked and took the board off.

But now, I"M AFRAID MY MOTHERBOARD FRIED FROM STATIC.

WHAT DO?

My dad didn't feel anything, what do? D:

oh lol.

never mind then.

Another problem, when we're putting in the CPU, it fits in, but when we put the tension arm down, it feels like it's going to break and is really stiff. My dad thinks the CPU's in the wrong position and we're putting too much pressure. The notches are aligned and it's fully in the socket.

I've built a friend's computer before, nothing that special, but I have experience.

I'll think about it.

Also, will all that stuff be compatible with Linux/Ubuntu? I don't have enough money right now to buy Windows.

I would recommend spending the extra $15 to get an actual quad-core cpu.

EDIT:

CD-DVD drive -> Windows 7 -> GPU

Ethan, sorry for the (very) late reaction, but my first PCI-E port is 10cm/3.93inch, and the others are 3cm/1.20inch.

The 3cm one isn't really for graphics cards. The first port, though, should work fine. Also, the voltage isn't helpful when you need to know the wattage.

Yes, I've built a friend's computer before, nothing that special, but I have experience.

And I'm wording it wrong.

2 monitors in EYEFINITY/Both in one display for gaming = bad imo. Due to the fact of the big black split in the middle of your display (Both sides of each monitor)

2 monitors for general use (I.E, one used for one thing, the other for another), is good, as you can multi-task, and be more arranged in what you use for what.

What I basically mean is that if you're hoping to use something like an Eyefinity setup (Using 2 monitors for one display in total), then it won't be that good.

however, if you want to use 2 monitors seperately for your system, it should be fine to use it.

I think that when someone asks if a system will support dual monitors you can pretty solidly assume that they aren't planning on gaming across them.

« on: November 27, 2011, 02:27:10 AM »
Just a quick question, Can You Run It? says that my computer can run Skyrim on high settings. I don't know if this is true. You see, this service has told me that I can run BF3 on all high settings before, and it did, but I don't know if I should trust it on Skyrim. Help?

EDIT: First. Second.

You will be able to run it, but definitely not on high. The 520 isn't really high end so you should be able to play on medium pretty solidly. You might be able to play on medium/high custom settings, but don't get your hopes up. Pretty crazy that you have 16gb of ram, though; whoever did that should of just bought 8 and spent the other $100 on a better GPU.\

EDIT: Haha.

Exactly what I was saying. 2 monitors would not be good, and not worth it.

But it'd be good for splitting the screens so you can multi task.

Have you actually even built a computer yet? Alot of the stuff you're spewing is pretty biased.

I'm getting a dell xps 8300 for my birthday. Is this good enough for playing computer games?

Specs:
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English

8GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 4 DIMMs

500GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache

Nvidia® Geforce® GT530

EDIT: Forgot the processor
Intel® Core™ i7-2600 processor(8MB Cache, 3.4GHz)

See if you can get the i5-2500 or the i5-2500k instead. THey will give you the same performance for alot cheaper. When you configure it get the cheapest graphics card you can or none at all. If you do that, then you can buy one from a different site that is actually capable of playing games and install it when you receive your computer.
