Suggestions & Requests / Taking requests for new brick doors
« on: January 19, 2015, 12:20:15 PM »
I'm such a rooster tease. I completely forgot about this. I mean damn, it's been two years.

So anyways I've got 11 brick doors already done,  4-5 doors planned, and I'm taking requests. I might release a version with door frames as a separate add-on.

Trapdoor not pictured since the brick is broken at the moment.

Released: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=274053.0

DOOR COUNTER: 0 bricks + 30 models + 4 planned

Planned

Model done (2014-01-24)

Brick done (2014-01-24)
None yet, I'm redoing all my previously made doors to include coverage to bump up the performance a little bit.

Suggestions & Requests / Request: Can someone fix Client_BrickScroll?
« on: January 19, 2015, 11:12:15 AM »
I love the add-on but it broke some months/years ago.
RTB: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=212589.0
Download: http://mirror.dataorb.net/blockland/addons/Client_BrickScroll.zip

For example if I select 1x1 and scroll forward trying to reach the 2x2 brick it jumps to end of the 2x category to 2x2 Corner. Trying to scroll back from 2x2 Corner doesn't do anything. Scrolling back from 1x1 goes to 2x2 Corner and then gets stuck. It's supposed to go through all bricks in a tab (and I think even across tabs) as if they were in a single contiguous list.

Modification Help / Getting ID from ItemData name & array length?
« on: January 18, 2015, 10:38:57 AM »
How would get that integer ID thingy from an ItemData datablock name?

How to determine the length of an array?

I'm working on a simple weapon shop GUI system and I'm trying to populate a drop down list with predefined items.

Help / Blockland doesn't start anymore
« on: January 17, 2015, 06:00:15 AM »
I recently reinstalled Windows 7 and now Blockland doesn't even start. (Worked fine before reinstalling the OS.) Nothing pops up, not even an error. I have the latest drivers, I've reinstalled the game, and verified the game cache. I've temporarily disabled all anti-virus software.

Faces, Decals, Prints / Demian's Modular Terrain Prints
« on: December 11, 2014, 02:16:34 PM »
Some neat prints for modular terrain prints I made for my Badspot Castle build. (Check the thread for additional screenshots of the prints in use.)

http://mirror.dataorb.net/blockland/addons/Print_ModTer_Demian.zip

First row: masonry, slabs (great for 4x tall trims), tiles, planks
Second row: large rivets, shaded roof tiles, duotone tiles, boost

A replica of the Crash Team Racing Cortex Castle skybox I made for my Badspot Castle build. I released it some months ago in my dump thread but I don't think too many people will find it there since it requires some digging.

Gallery / Racetrack: Badspot Castle (Crash Team Racing: Cortex Castle)
« on: December 11, 2014, 01:54:32 PM »
Like all my projects, this too has been in the making for years and is way, way overdue it's release. (First development thread.)
So here you go:
  • Crash Team Racing Cortex Castle replica build. (~12000 bricks)
  • Gamemode for quick add-on selection and custom environment.
  • 2 x Custom CTR themed prints.
  • Custom modular terrain prints.
  • Cortex Castle skybox remake.
  • True-to-the-original environment.

Missing features:
  • Functional gamemode with laps and/or time-trial.
  • Character selection.
  • Working item and apple boxes.
  • Working boost.
  • Respawning on track after falling off.
  • Spiders.
  • Rain because it would rain indoors as well.

In other words. This is just the build, nothing else. Outside the build is a white box with the character selection room but the events need more work. Not all of the add-ons in the gamemode are required but I have no clue which ones are extra. If you need help hunting down some add-on let me know and I'll upload it.

Recommended gameplay: Maximum of 8 players and not one more. The track is difficult enough to finish alone without falling off.

Required: Click the invisible green cube at the top of the tower immediately to the right of the spawn exit. (Pictured at the center of the second screenshot. Or start a minigame, the events should work.) It enables the zone at the end of the track where the big jump is. It slows down your fall and prevents you from launching to the moon ~90% of the time.

Environment Files / Bedroom Skybox
« on: August 29, 2014, 01:38:09 PM »
Rehosting since RTB done died.

Bedroom just got bigger.. by infinity.

This is a skybox of the old Bedroom interior. It essential makes it look you are inside the Bedroom and the Bedroom floor is infinite.

I highly suggest you use the default Bedroom carpet floor with this!

For the skybox to function as I intended I suggest you first select a ground texture, then this sky. This gets rid of the brown fog. Although the fog might work with the dark skybox.

The filesize of the sky is a little large but I felt it was essential to preserve good quality to retain the illusion. This was not made using the original interior. I modeled the Bedroom and textured it myself in a 3D modeling program and rendered the skybox using that. Because of this, this Bedroom does not look 100% identical to the actual one, but it is close enough that you will not really notice any differences.

Until Badspot implements fog alpha, I had to put in brown fog to the day skybox. Otherwise the sky settings such as lighting are exactly the same as with the old Bedroom map.

Environment Files / Moon with Terrain
« on: August 06, 2014, 05:51:51 PM »
An update to my DemianSpace skyboxes. A night sky with the moon and some terrain around. It is a very dark environment. Loosely inspired by an RTB 1.045 map called Distant Moon.

http://mirror.dataorb.net/files/blockland/addons/Sky_DemianSpace.zip

Same as above but without the terrain. I put it in my main sky pack because I needed to just add one image instead of duplicating original star skybox to the space pack.

Suggestions & Requests / Freeze event
« on: August 04, 2014, 07:50:47 AM »
I know for a fact that this event exists but I can't find it anywhere in my files. The event froze the player in place (even in mid-air) for a specified time. Anyone have a link to it?

General Discussion / Optimize your PNGs - Speed up loading by up to 80%!
« on: August 04, 2014, 04:06:54 AM »
Of course there's a catch. You can only speed up loading of add-ons you make from now on and only PNG files. With a sample size of 74 I managed to get the average size down to 76% and at best 14% of original size. You could optimize default files but I think you would crash when connecting to servers due to file mismatch.

PNG optimization is awesome. What you do is take out all the extra unnecessary info out of the PNG file and leave the pixels, colors, and transparency untouched. In other words you're reducing the PNG file size losslessly.

I've used PNGCrush, PNGOut, OptiPNG, TinyPNG, PunyPNG, and Smustuff. Some of those (the best ones) are command-line tools, others are websites. I've spent hours reading documentions, experimenting with different settings, doing comparison charts, and lots of trial and error. A few weeks ago I discovered the best software for optimizing PNGs that was by far the easiest to use and on top of that it provided far better results than any of the previously mentioned software. I present to you PNGGauntlet. One button PNG optimization. It's god damn magic.
http://pnggauntlet.com/

I'm sorry if this sounds like an ad for the software but it just blows my mind how good it is, especially since I've tried all those other ones. I did some test with some of the largest print add-ons I have. I extracted them, optimized the PNGs, and recompressed:
Quote
Original file
Quote
Optimized
Quote
% of original size
Quote
Print_2x2r_SpaceTechRamps.zip - 4,39 MiB
Quote
3,88 MiB
Quote
88%
Quote
Print_ModTer_Default.zip - 3,15 MiB
Quote
1,94 MiB
Quote
62%
Quote
Print_1x1f_KeyboardGeneric.zip - 0,13 MiB
Quote
0,07 MiB
Quote

I tested the prints in Blockland afterwards and they looked exactly the same. You'll save a second or two per add-on for the people loading add-ons you've made on servers. Discuss how cool PNG optimization is.

Since I haven't played actively in ages so I might as well share most of my stuff since it's not like I use it anymore. I'll start with saves but I'll add more stuff later.

SAVES

Here's my old release threads. The download links in the threads might not work anymore so I've added them separately below and also it's nice to have all my stuff in one place.

What? I didn't make a release thread for DM Church? It's the old save from days gone by.
http://mirror.dataorb.net/files/blockland/saves/DM_Church_Repack.zip

Then for the main course. My save folder with 271 cherrypicked saves, 98 of which are mine. Old stuff from all the way back in 2009 too. The rest is stuff I've saved from other servers and things I've contributed to but are not actually mine. I also packed in some old saves (~2006) from when Blockland was being developed like the island in one of the default screenshots. Server builds folder has larger stuff like freebuilds and themed servers.

Some things in the "not mine":
  • Several cool clan servers including C, NWB, Craftsmen, and ATF
  • Badspot's Block Parties
  • cool stuff by Bushido, Barnabas, BAC, and Tophias
  • Zombies in the BluZone
  • Tons of ZAPT saves
  • Some mini builds, including some by Kalphiter
  • Blockoworld 2011
  • Coburn's Lounge I mean jesus forget that is amazing
why does this crappy forum soft keep pushing the paragraph below to up here
Things worth checking out in "mine"
  • Dodgeball saves (The original one was the stuff. The newer versions were not as good. Good times were had in the first one.)
  • Knife TDMs + Platforms (Nostalgia.)
  • Pakistan (My Afghanistan remake that I never finished. Feel free to pick up the project.)
  • cs_office (An accurate replica of a Counter-Strike map I never finished.)
  • ctf_turbine (I think I released this TF2 map? It's finished but the middle area is not symmetrical because wtf.)
  • Eqypt Theme (Eqypt themed buildings to go as the exterior set for Tombland Area Parts.)
  • Tombland Area Parts (Eqypt themed modular dungeon pieces for Spade's Tombland. Never used.)
  • It's Over 9000! (I'm actually kind of proud of this one.)
  • Mt. FML (I think I released this but couldn't find the thread. Jeep challenge.)
  • Basketball court (Because basketball)
  • Soccer field/minigames (Soccer was fun.)
  • Random Building/Master Building (A fairly large freebuild with tons of cool ass stuff. Some old versions, just load the newest.)
  • CTR Cortex Castle (stuff's cool yo. Didn't I release this?)
Stuff in servers builds: Old RPs by McTwist and me, Spade's arcade saves, and Project World/Blockland World (v2?) save which was a super awesome city RP with an all-star development team that never left the drawing board. (I mean dude. We had everyone: McTwist, Port, Nullable, Clockturn, Monty, Striker150, Mr.Doom/Nasa62, Tophius, me and three others. stuff was gonna be cash but alas, like all "hey let's do this!" projects it died in a week or two. I think the entire dev team except me went to form that Scattered Space thing.)

If you use any part of any save from any folder with "mine" in the name I'd appreciate if you gave me credit somewhere in your build/server but you probably won't anyway and to be honest I don't really care. I wouldn't recommend using things from any other folders as the builds aren't mine. If you have questions about any save or build in the save ask away, I remember some of these things frighteningly well. Pardon the lack of better previews, some of them are just me looking at the ground or similar. I really don't feel like taking a new shot of each save.

DOWNLOAD ALL THE NOSTALGIA: http://mirror.dataorb.net/files/blockland/saves/Demians_Dump_Saves.zip (398 MiB decompressed)
Insignificant update on 2014-07-31, removed a couple duplicate saves.

Behold my ImageMagick (ie. Googling) skills! A collage of all the save previews in the archive with the save name overlaid. Sorry it's a 9600x9000 image but you need to see individual previews. Click for full res, please don't hotlink the full res image.

ADD-ONS

Here you go. Almost every add-on I've ever made, including unreleased & commissioned "private" stuff that nobody cares about (E.g. Weapon_SwordFlipped for Fob.) and a couple updated add-ons. Titanic and elm's RPG stuff not included for obvious reasons. Sorry, no descriptions or screenshots in the foreseeable future. I need to learn more PHP before I can add them. I can't guarantee all add-ons work or are even finished, I didn't test them.

http://mirror.dataorb.net/blockland/addons/

Potentially interesting unreleased add-ons:
  • Brick_Doors_Coffins.zip
  • Brick_Doors_Demian.zip
  • Item_hatItem.zip
  • Item_HockeyDemian.zip
  • Hat_Morion.zip
  • Light_Environment.zip
  • Print_ModTer_Demian.zip (For the CTR build, will do separate release later)
  • Script_SecretVision.zip (I think with this you can see better in the dark or some secrets in the old maps. I forgot how it works but it used to work.)
  • Sky_CortexCastle.zip (CTR as well)
  • Tool_GrappleRopeHand.zip

Funny thing about the coffins, I believe I started working on them just before Badspot released the first screenshots of the Halloween update, so that died. I believe you're supposed to turn of the collision from them and build a box of invisible bricks on top of the coffin so you can actually use them as coffins.

Games / I made a Happy Wheels pogo challenge course
« on: July 26, 2014, 01:45:07 PM »
I got unexplainable cravings to play Happy Wheels two weeks ago and disappointed by the lack of good quality levels (in general but especially pogo challenges) I decided to make my own. I've been working on this level for two weeks few hours a day every other day or so. It has gone through two major mechanics changes (each of which knocked off a difficulty point in my ratings) and one major design change. I've fine tuned, tested, and polished it to what I consider to be high quality. No "jump ov3r tis walls or ur jbiebs l0l noob RATE 5 IF YOU LIVE OR DIE" here. None of that stuff.

I came up with 12 major challenges and 3 minor challenges with a 4 left over that I couldn't fit in.

It is a difficult level. It used to a lot harder though. Masochist hard. Instakill traps, one chance at the challenges and so forth. I eventually reduced the traps to a fraction of their original amount because it loving sucks having to start over. In the final revision I removed them entirely including two challenges that were instakill trap based. Now your only enemy is the frailty of your own body. I would love to add checkpoints but sadly Happy Wheels does not have them. I'm sorry but your legs are weak and you need to finish the course.

It was supposed to have a Portal-esque laboratory visual style but it was work enough to create the challenges so I decided to keep a simplistic visual style.

I'd like it if you gave it a try and told me what you think about it. I actually put effort into this level. Each challenge is possible to complete without taking any damage. There are 7 coins to collect and 2 pogostick tokens.
http://www.totaljerkface.com/happy_wheels.tjf?level_id=6776719

Walkthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yl9CViS9Ks

Here's a map of the level.

Here's a map separating the individual challenges.

Edit: Oh motherforgeter. Right as I publish it I notice the wall at the start is a few pixels off. forget me.

Games / Shiritori - Chaining words (Multiplayer!)
« on: July 20, 2014, 11:57:38 AM »
Get yo ass in here people. The multiplayer is dead and I want to play.

Longer words = more points.
Try to get to zero points.
Word must start with the last letter (bonus for last two letters) of your opponents word.
That's the TL;DP version of the tutorial, not that it's even needed.
