Gallery / EventBloc
« on: January 16, 2012, 10:33:53 PM »
Introducing the EventBloc

The EventBloc is a small, modular panel designed for practical application. Programs (each capable of performing several unique task) are installed in the back, and can be swapped with a duplicator without pulling out a wrench.
In addition, the EventBloc uses no named bricks, so there's no need to worry about duplicating/giving out unnecessary trusts when changing the device. With an event saver, it can be put together in roughly 5 minutes.

Features:
Fault-tolerant
Default events (does require pinball projectile to be enabled however)
No named bricks; duplicate away!
Runs 6 programs, each with 4 options (or more with a little creativity)
Programs run quietly
Low event queue (<50)

But is it an event computer?
Sorta, but not really. It works like a computer though.

What's in the save?
The save file includes the EventBloc, as well as a program store (which will be updated as more program modules are made) and some rooms reserved for testing programs.

Hello.
Almost every server I join stalls while downloading a particular addon. I know that the problem is related to my DSL, and unfortunately there really isn't much I can do about it.

I've noticed however that, on rare occasions, the main blue loading bar is accompanied by a light-blue transparent bar that, albeit downloading resources much more slowly, ALWAYS downloads the resources. Sometimes this happens on the same server I tried to join earlier.

My question is; is there a way to toggle this slower loading method? Or is it really just a random occurrence?

Help / Can't seem to update via Launcher
« on: December 09, 2011, 07:48:00 PM »
Whenever I start the BlocklandLauncher, I get stuck on this file:
http://cloud.blockland.us/blobs/9da91df380b106b29dc5fc2adbbaec69282de917

Blockland never opens.

While it could be my DSL (this has happened before with certain files), I was unable to download it from a different connection.

Turning off the connection throws an error, claiming that it can't find the Blockland application. I've confirmed that it exists in .app, so I'm not sure what's happening.

I'm on a mac, 10.6.8.

Here's my console for Launcher.app:

Gallery / A FINISHED whale?
« on: January 30, 2011, 11:23:59 AM »
I got this awesome idea a couple of days ago where Ahab-influenced pirates would fight pink-shirted hippies on the back of a whale. Unfortunately, I lost interest pretty quick...

If any one wants to finish this and take credit for it, be my guest. Decided to finish it  :cookieMonster: Finished!

Everything's done; exterior, interior, easter eggs. There are two save files. The second is only the exterior.

I'm too lazy to upload to mediafire, so the image of the final product is .crapg. You get the gist of it.

Gallery / Snaily's (last?) Combination Lock
« on: January 22, 2011, 11:56:24 PM »
Well, this is it. Probably the last combination lock I'm gonna make. I did some stress-testing on a couple of servers, so you may have seen this already :P

Features:
• Default events (you'll need the pinball projectile enabled however)
• No named bricks
• Low (<50) event quota
• Easily changeable passcode (no need to pull a wrench out to change the passcode)
• 1000 possible combinations
• Can be used for almost any purpose
• Takes minutes to set up with the event saver

New in V2:
• Twice as fast
• 'Pinball spam' glitch reduced/eliminated
• Instructions on the lock
• Back dials now make a sound when changed

The save file includes a tutorial demonstrating the lock's usage and includes instructions to setting it up with the event saver (http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=61309.0)

Enjoy.

Gallery / Snaily's (unfinished) Carrier
« on: January 18, 2011, 07:29:49 PM »
I've been working for about a week or two on this thing, and I just managed to get my server to host right the other day. It's an unarmed carrier (spaceship), "The Promise". It's going to be mostly an interior build, and this picture doesn't do much justice.

I'm just posting it so that anyone who may have saved it won't claim it to be their own. I'll take (most) suggestions you guys might have.

Modification Help / Getting the vehicle from it's spawn
« on: August 02, 2010, 10:28:12 AM »
Everything's working now. Thanks peeps.

(Note: I am aware that there was a similar topic made back in 2009. However this is still a problem)

Title says it all. I can't find a way to get the vehicle that a vehicle spawn brick owns.

Now, before you say
Quote from: Space Guy
%brick.vehicle
%brick.vehicleDatablock

Doing that returns an empty string, both in the console (%brick being replaced with the spawn bricks' id) and in code. Same with
Code: [Select]
%brick.getDatablock().vehicle
%brick.getDatablock().vehicleDatablock

Here's part of the script, where %brick = a fxDTSBrick.
Code: [Select]
echo(%brick.getId()); //Returns the spawn bricks' id
echo(%brick.getClassName());   //Returns fxDTSBrick
echo(%brick.vehicle); //Returns an empty string
echo(%brick.vehicleDatablock);       //Returns an empty string

If it helps, the code 'seemed' to work after about 20 minutes in single player, and '%brick.vehicle' accurately returned the vehicle's id. I would rather not wait 20 minutes and hope that this code works though...

Any ideas to what's going on?

Modification Help / Finding a brick by name
« on: July 30, 2010, 06:04:08 PM »
Allo.

I haven't done much scripting for Blockland, and I had no luck with search.

I know how to iterate through objects and see if an object is a brick, but is it possible to figure out what the brick's name is (the name a player gives the brick)?

Code: [Select]
for(%i = serverConnection.getCount()-1; %i > 0; %i--) {

%object = serverConnection.getObject(%i);

if(%object.getClassName() $= "fxDTSBrick") {

//Now what?

}
}

Gallery / Snaily's Event 'Computer': Project Requisite
« on: July 10, 2010, 02:49:10 PM »
My second attempt to make an event 'computer' that doesn't use named bricks. Its' code named 'Project Requisite'.

It's very simplistic. No named bricks, no screen, nothing fancy. Its' purpose is to run multiple external programs (up to 10, 4 included) without busting the event and projectile limits in most servers. Plus, a smart eventer (not me obviously) can make their own programs for this computer.

Help programs are included in the download, but if you have any more questions, ask here.

Also, if you manage to make any programs that work on it, post them here!

I made this a long time ago. I thought I'd post it.
"Snaily's Troop Transport V3 (Light Cruiser)"

It uses the SpaceShuttle addon, which is included with the download.

Gallery / Snaily's (Universal) Combination Lock
« on: January 30, 2010, 11:04:33 AM »
Small, simple to use combination lock, ideal for large builds.

Its combination is defined by a 'server lock', so it's not only easy to change the combination, but its possible to change multiple locks at the same time.

Features:
Uses one brick name (no matter how many combo locks are made)
Uses only default events
Doesn't cause the "Too many events at once!" message to pop up (at least not yet)
Auto calibration feature

You can either download the save here, or download the marco and event saves and make one anywhere. You can get the files at this link: http://www.mediafire.com/?ezumqnujim2

EDIT: By the way, because loading events and marcos require the event saver and marco saver (no really,) they are included in the link. The Event Saver was made by Space Guy, and the Marco Saver was made by Ephialtes.

Note to Star Wars fanboys: I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, so I won't be taking request for more Star Wars stuff (yet).

It isn't finished, but I wanted to post it before someone tries to steal it. I'll post the .bls file when it's done.
Feel free to rate it so far. Suggestions would be nice too, I don't know much about these things.

Made some progress.

Games / Uplink- Trust is a weakness
« on: August 18, 2009, 10:08:49 AM »
Fairly old game I got addicted to recently. It's very original. You play as a hacker hired by a secret company and do odd (usually illegal) jobs for major cooperations. Below is Introversion's description:

"You play an Uplink Agent who makes a living by performing jobs for major corporations. Your tasks involve hacking into rival computer systems, stealing research data, sabotaging other companies, laundering money, erasing evidence, or framing innocent people.

"You use the money you earn to upgrade your computer systems, and to buy new software and tools. As your experience level increases you find more dangerous and profitable missions become available. You can speculate on a fully working stock market (and even influence its outcome). You can modify peoples academic or criminal records. You can divert money from bank transfers into your own accounts. You can even take part in the construction of the most deadly computer virus ever designed."

I'm thinking of buying it, but I'm kinda poor, so I duno...
You can do quite a bit on the free version anyway.
