Those old database events by Tezuni. Would appreciate a short guide on how to use them. Thanks.

Colonial Dysfunction

You suddenly find yourself regaining consciousness. Why is it so cold? What is this frosted-over glass in front of me? What is that annoying alarm? The glass moves and lifts off vertically. Facing you are a number of pods and others seem to be opening. Some other people are exiting them. Oh, that's right...

You wake up from cryo-stasis on a long voyage aboard the TES Nomad to colonize a faraway planet deemed habitable, named simply, Vos.

As you regain your memory over the next few minutes, you check the watch on your wrist. It seems to have never run out of power in the... 380 years that you've been on this voyage. Your watch indicates that there are only 2 days left until the Nomad reaches Vos.

I guess now would be a good time to get acquainted.

Who are you?

You may begin once accepted. Copy this information into a reply and replace the field with the information you want. Ex: [NAME] could become Michael Yates. Feel free to add other details and format as you want. {Item1;Item2;...} indicates a choice list for any of the items included.

*Occupation = Your occupation before you ere ent on this voyage.
*APPEARANCE = Either a written description, an image, or both.
*Automatons are relegated to all roles beneathe middle management for civilian roles, and middle officer for military roles. Automatons are humanoid, do not have any organic flesh, and appear as either loveually dimorphous or neuter.

Characters

William "Bill" Newhope, Engineer (Mechanical & Structural)
1Lt. Jack Cooper, Pilot
Giovanni "Geo" Muratore, Spvsr. Engineer (Mechanical)
SA-25 "Bobby", Security Personnel
John Hero, Sanitation Technician

Rules

I won't try to be too imposing, but I gotta have some rules so the game is fair to play for everyone.

  • No auto-hitting or power-gaming. There won't be too much need to enforce this as long as you try to perform actions that your character would know. Additionally, super powers are not a thing, but feel free to ask me in a PM if you can use anything of that sort.
  • No meta-gaming. If you hear information OOC (Out of Character), your character does not automatically know it.
  • Typically as a rule of thumb, just wait for GM reply unless it's dialogue, related to dialogue, or some other menial task.
  • You can only run one character at once as long as they are alive, but may go through however many characters you want.

Suggestions & Requests / Unconventional but Useful Weapons and Tools
« on: January 03, 2018, 12:35:52 AM »
1. Teleportation Grenade

Has the same throwing range as the HE Grenade and the same timed fuse and still bounces off of things, but instead of exploding, it teleports you to wherever it is, be it on the ground or in the sky. Perhaps the model is two light grey hemispheres with a cyan center. These hemispheres stretch out, revealing more of the glow-y cyan center just before teleporting. Would be nice also with good particle and sound effects.

How to use: Equips grenade. Throws grenade. Player teleports when the time runs out.

Should not be able to teleport players out of vehicles or teleport vehicles with them.

2. Teleportation Grenade Launcher

Has a similar function to the Teleportation Grenade except the grenade must be set off by remote detonation (Alt-Click) and it has a longer range.

How to use: Equips grenade launcher. If player right-clicks when no grenade is present, makes error noise. Player left-clicks and it launches a grenade. Player may at any time right click and teleport to wherever the grenade is, whether in flight or landed. If player left-clicks as a grenade is already deployed, it launches another grenade and the old grenade shorts out.

Should not be able to teleport players out of vehicles or teleport vehicles with them.

3. Combo Push Broom

A push broom that pushes people not half as much as the original push broom. Holding down the fire button will spin as usual, but as long as you continue hitting the same person consecutively (Don't interrupt by hitting another player, bot, or vehicle.), it will charge energy. When you release on this same player, It will fire the same push broom projectile but release that stored energy in a push. The more you hit them consecutively before releasing at them, the more powerful the final push will be.

Others

I might come up with others later, but this is what I got for now.

Intro Music
Haf Gengr Hriðum  — 'The Storm-Driven Sea', by Christopher Tin.

Every traveller by sea dreads it; it's any navigator's worst nightmare. And it happened to you. A great storm, the likes of which you've never seen before ends your once calm voyage, and your ship is tossed over the sea for three long days. When it seems like the storm would never subside, you wake up, your boat run aground and most, if not all the crew dead or lost. But where are you? There's no telling where you are, and no way to return from where you came. The land ahead of you is unknown to you, perhaps filled with many dangers. Will you perish in helplessness, or will you rise to the challenge and conquer this mighty land?

You play as a person who is stranded on this land As you are faced with challenges, you have the liberty to overcome them in whichever way you believe your character can accomplish. For sake of simplicity, your character comes from a fictional Europe, or 'ficto-Europe'. You may choose from where in ficto-Europe your character hails and how this culminates in their culture, but know that for sake of simplicity, your character must speak 1 language from the following: 'Proto-Germanic', 'Proto-Celtic', 'Proto-Slavic' or 'Romano-Hellenic'. You may apply below (Replace fields with details, Ex: '<NAME>' could become 'Gussamius Bombasticus III'. Details with a * are required. Any other details can be added if you wish.):

Here are some items that we hope will help your RP experience. If you find anything that you think ould be useful, send it to me and I might put it in!

In this game, it's important that no one can abuse or bend rules to claim an unfair advantage. Thank you in advance for being respectful of other players and mods.

  • Rules Last updated on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 13:00:37 (Pacific Standard Time).
  • No metagaming. Try to motivate your character's actions only by what they can perceive.
  • Over the course of the game, players will learn information that is made available to them, either by public post, private messages or messages on an external services, but that their character did not see. This is metagaming. Your character will need to discover these things.
  • No powergaming. See the next 4 below.
  • You cannot dismiss conditions. Ex: If you are on fire, the fire will not magically go away because you say that it does. You need to have your character extinguish themselves. A moderator will post to indicate if you are successful or not.
  • You cannot dismiss injuries. Ex: If you have a broken leg, you either can either walk on that leg with intense pain or not walk on it at all. A moderator will clarify the severity of the injury to help you cope with it.
  • You cannot dismiss wildlife in pursuit of you or after which you are in pursuit. You can attempt to get away from an animal or to chase down an animal, but once again, your degree of success or failure will be indicated by a moderator in a reply.
  • You cannot auto-hit. You can aim to strike, but unless your chances of hitting are beyond reasonable doubt, (Such as swinging an axe at a tree or dealing a killing blow to an incapacitated animal), then a moderator will indicate your degree of success or failure.
  • You cannot auto-find. For objects that would give you an advantage, you may not 'auto-procure' them. Indicate that you search for something and a moderator will give you the results.
  • In recognizing that players & characters are two different things, we please ask that even if something bad happens to your character, that you not make a scene about a player. Handle disputes outside of the topic, please.
  • Please do not spam the thread. This is a serious RP. If you are not a player in the game, please do not post unless you are very likely to join.
  • The game rewards players who post often, inquire about details, and exercise caution. We therefore encourage players to post consistently in order to have the best chance of survival. Since the game is on an semi-active timescale, the game does not have mercy on those who neglect to post, especially if they are at risk of harm or death.
  • If you are going to be unavailable for definite periods of time, for instance for a vacation, family or personal emergency, or have need to study and take exams for school, you may ask a moderator to have your character put in stasis.

Hello all! I didn't exactly have a fancy post planned or designed, but I thought that it would be great to have a place to talk about development of forum games. Many forum games require a lot of development and planning to make a quality game, so here is a place that I hope we can all find useful for collaboration and input in games we may have in development. Feel free also to share hat games you miss, so creators know if they should re-launch a series.

Remember Blockland Fort Wars? Sometimes you would have that one starfish that would keep strafing your base. Or perhaps a troll would ruin the fun by spamming bricks, the chat, or would event relays that spammed impulses. Maybe you were about to conduct an elaborate raid in a vehicle, only to find yourself in the stratosphere seconds later. Well, let's not worry about that now. Play the same Fort Wars here, but in a turn-based format that will ensure that players can build with and fight on their terms and without the opportunity to senselessly spam and break the game.

Main Map

Q:  How do I join or leave the game?
A:  To join, just paste the following in a new post:
Code: (To Join) [Select]
I hereby join the game!
To leave, paste:
Code: (To Leave) [Select]
I hereby leave the game!
Be sure to also specify your starting location on the map.

It is also important to remember that once you leave the game, half of your belongings will go to your team, and the other half will disappear. Structures you created will remain. You will not get these back by re-joining. Getting temporarily banned from the game will result in your structures staying, and all of your belongings returning to your team until you return. Getting permanently banned will result in your structures going to your team and your team obtaining half of all your other belongings. If you are a lone wolf, your goods & structures will be free for others to claim.

Q: How does building and fighting work?
A:
Each turn, you can have one focus, Building or Fighting, and you are permitted to switch between each type of action. For instance, you cannot fire a gun and build a protective fence in the same turn, however, you may build the protective fence on the turn before or after you fire at your enemy. You don't need to necessarily state either of the two actions, but moderators will discern what you wrote to determine what kind of action it is. Note: If your action contains both, moderators will take the first type that you mention.

Q: How do we know how much we can build at once?
A:
Each building action will be outlined in the secondary post. It is not finalized at this time, however, this allows you the opportunity to build teams, forge alliances, and spit on your enemies.

Q:  We can have teams?
A:
That's right! Each Faction is a team, complete with its own members, leaders and followers. You can found, join, leave or disband a team at any time, unless the leaders of that team decide to restrict your rights as a member. They cannot, however, prevent you from leaving the team if you want to leave. Leadership within the team has the rights to choose how the team works and how the team is structured.

Q:  Can we teamkill?
A:
No. POLL 2 determined that friendly fire is off.

Q:  How do we fight?
A:
You cannot determine whether you kill, hit or not, as moderators will control that, however, you can say what you want to kill them with, how you do it, where you wish to aim, etc.

Q:  What happens when we die?
A:
You die. You must say that you respawn in order to respawn. You cannot do any other action except equip items that are available in the same room that you are in. You cannot respawn the same turn on which you died.

Q:  How do we create a team?
A:
Use the template below (Replace any field surrounded by {} to change its detail. For instance, {NAME} might become John Doe.) All information below is required, but it is a suggested template. Feel free to adjust it and add new fields to your liking. If you are designating a different founder (For example, if you are just managing the team post), please mention it.
Code: (Team Creation Template) [Select]

Alliances:  {LIST_OF_ALLIANCES}
Enemies:  {LIST_OF_ENEMIES}

Team Members: {LIST_OF_TEAM_MEMBERS*}
*Please designate your team structure and leadership here.

If you create or join a team, or even lone-wolf it, the Official Discord allows you to network with your team, your allies and conduct diplomacy.

To be eligible to use the team communication features, you need to verify your identity. PM me with your Discord name and tag.

  • No powergaming, auto-hitting or meta-gaming.
  • Action results will be determined by Game Operation Staff.
  • You can either Build OR Fight within a single turn. If you post both, the first mentioned will take place.
  • Turns will operate in the BFBB style, with turns opening and closing to determine what actions are acknowledged. Actions posted before opening and after closing will be ignored.
  • You can only claim land (or sea) for your buildings for now. I have not decided if there will be any acknowledgement of territory beyond that.
  • When a team is founded, it has the right to create a new fort.
  • Team founders are automatically the leaders. Inner team operation discussion will take place on this Discord. Team structure, ranks, etc, will be determined by the leadership of each team. Teams will choose how they operate.
  • You may have 4 item spawners per player.
  • Empty teams with no players at all will be deleted.
  • Do not be a richard in general.
  • Do not give away team map links to non-team members.

Off Topic / Excel VBA Help – Assign Font from Adjacent Cell
« on: October 28, 2017, 03:48:29 PM »
I have a lot of fonts installed. We're talking about in the 1,600 to 1,700 range. I like to make all kinds of neat titles and headers out of them as a hobby, partially for the larger projects that I do within Forum Games. As you could imagine, finding the right font within over a thousand fonts is not easy, and sometimes you need to see the font to know what it looks like. I am categorizing each font, including by Serif/Sans-Serif, style, such as calligraphic, pictographic, distorted, digital, etc., and I will be making a separate sheet with search tools where I can narrow down results of this giant list by name, category, etc. I will return to this later.

Originally, I created a long list of fonts by name in an Excel spreadsheet in Column A with the font name being displayed larger and in the font specified in Column A. Problem is, Excel isn't too keen on having somewhere over 800 fonts running at once.

Naturally I want to have the search functions to return all fonts that satisfy the conditions in this sheet's Column A, but I want to do more than just display the font name in the generic font. I want to be able to replicate the data in Column A in Column B while setting it to the respective font, 48pt.

Is here someone who would be willing to write a function (yes, in VBA; that's what Microsoft Excel uses) on this and let me know how to implement it? I would be very thankful for your help.

What is this?
The Coliseum is a place for warriors to battle for glory, renown and wealth. Not all will be able to win. The game is played in a tournament-style battle type in a variety of different environments. You as the player battle other players to gain supremacy. What weapons can you have? The rules for the game are simple:

1.   Start with basic weapons.
2.   Kill players to get points.
3.   Use points to buy any weapon of choice.
   a.   Weapons must be brought in with you through the entrance gate (18’ wide & 12’ tall, 20' long).
   b.   You must be able to hold all the weapons that you want to bring in in order to bring them in.
4.   If you leave the battlefield or are thrown out by another player, you lose.
5.   Game is moderated by dice.
6.   You can only play the game when it is your turn to battle.
7.   Forfeiting is legal if you are overwhelmed with life stuff. I get it; life can be stuff.
8.   No meta-gaming or power-gaming.
   a.   If you try to auto-hit, you will lose the moveset. State your intentions and your aim.
   b.   If you edit your attack after your opponent has posted, your attack will fail.
9.   If you are thrown out of the ring with your weapon or your weapon is thrown out before the round ends, you can either sell it for ½ it's original price or buy it back for ½ it's original price.
10.   Prices for items are integers only.
   a.   If something is worth 1 point, it cannot be bought back for ½ price if lost.
   b.   If something is worth less than 1 point, the number of items you can buy are decided by the GM.
11.   Posts for your move must not be any later than 48 hours after the previous update.

How to join:

  • No application required; just say that you want to play.
  • You start with 20 points to spend.
  • Prices for items (You can specify what they are and what they do; creativity allowed) upon request.

What is this?
"It takes a village" is originally part of an idiom or proverb meaning that it takes many, not just a single house or a few to accomplish a single, difficult task. So why the random wisdom mumbo-jumbo? This game is a simulator of tribal life, except without the hyper-realism from the Tributary and Savage Archipelago series. The premise is that you are a tribesman or tribeswoman in a society that you all get to shape.  The main goal is survival. Wanna do something else? Of course, you have free license to forget around! Create an offshoot tribe? Go for it. Burn a neighboring tribe's village to the ground? Why not?

How do I play?
Simple. State your action, and within reason and rules, it will happen. If you are trying for something that may or may not result in immediate success, a moderator or autonomous player (See rules and autonomous player list) will decide the outcome of the action.

To start, create a character. See the example below to see how the application would turn out. Feel free to add any fields you don't see here and re-format as desired.
Code: (New Player Application) [Select]
[NAME]
love:  {Male, Female; choose one and remove the extra text and brackets}
Appearance:  [APPEARANCE; describe your appearance]
Inventory:  [INVENTORY; list your starting items]
Role:  [ROLE; your desired starting role in the tribe. Note that if more than one person wants to be a leader, you will need to determine that amongst yourselves, whether through peace or bloodshed]

Code: (Example Player Application) [Select]
Fabio
love:  Male
Appearance:  A lanky tan-skinned man with dark messy hair. Wields a fishing spear and stabs fish out of the river all day.  Wears a shaggy course fabric tunic and a rope sash around his waist.
Inventory: Fishing spear, Filleting knife
Role:  Fisherman

Also, once there are at least 6 players, I will open up creations of new tribes.  But when it's time, you can submit one of these.

Rules
  • Do not use technology that is out of this time period. E.g. no pulling guns out of your ass.
  • Do not bullstuff in random mutants, aliens or mythology. If you want it, I we can have a discussion on the RPC Discord channel #blf-itav
  • Do not powergame. You cannot simply overpower an apex predator alone with your bear hands. In general, just use sense.
  • Autonomous Players are those decided by moderators to be trustworthy enough to complete their own actions as they are considered reliable and mature players. They can also decide the outcomes of other players' actions. If you are an autonomous player, do not abuse this power. It can be given just as easily as taken away.
  • Rules are subject to change. Last revision on Monday, 03 July 2017 at 21:47:49, Pacific Daylight Time.

Forum Games / INHUMAN Rebooted — Chapter 1: A Common Cause

INHUMAN
Click for music

OMG why is this post so big?
Calm down and have a look.

Wikia — Coming soon.

Background

The rate at which technology has advanced is increasing exponentially.  In the distant future, technology has become super-integrated with human society.  Humanoid robots and advanced virtual-intelligences have become a common item in the average household.  The most recent trend however, is permanent mechanical body-modifications.  Once reserved for use only in military and law-enforcement settings, these modifications have made their way into the black market, becoming available in criminal organizations and even among civilians.  These body-modifications can provide numerous benefits, ranging from simple limb replacements to optical and cerebral implants.  These black market modifications have never been known to be the highest of quality, or come from the most legitimate sources, which often causes problems with those who choose to invest in them.

The Game

This is a text-based roleplay revolving around a small group of victims portrayed by you, the forumers.  Your character, a small time criminal in the fictional city of Aurum – the neon-filled industrial capital of Earth – has received an outdated black market body-modification.  You soon discover that the outdated body-modification has a fatal flaw, ranging from radiation poisoning, heavy metal poisoning, electrical faults, electrocution, and persistent infections, which are all too common maladies associated with black market mods and the hack-job surgeries to install them.  Unsure of how long you have to live, you team up with other criminals who have received these faulty modifications from the same Doctor to hunt him down, no matter the cost, in order to save your life.

Map
(May not work on all browsers/if it doesn't work,
refresh the page)

The Rules

The rules are your standard roleplaying rules: No metagame, No powergame, etc., but with a few added rules.
  • Because this game relies on players to work together, no player may kill another player.
  • Don't be unrealistic.  Sure, this is a cyberpunk/sci-fi type roleplay, so it's hard to tell what's realistic and what's not, but at least use common sense.  If it seems ridiculous, don't do it, or ask first.
  • No asspull.  Don't just pull items and weapons out of thin-air.  It ruins the fun for everyone.
  • Don't be a richard, no one likes a richard.  We're here to have fun.  You may not like a person, and I'm not asking you to, just tolerate them and don’t make a fuss about them.
Simple, right?  Right.

The Characters

Now we're onto everyone's favorite part:  The characters.  So here's the deal, each character will start out with a body-modification that they make up.  Nothing over the top, I won't be accepting characters with ridiculous modifications (e.g. invincibility, mind reading, invisibility, no super hero type stuff).  Characters are allowed to start with weapons, but limit it to things that common thugs would have.  Pistols, blades, etc.  No military grade hardware - not yet, anyways.  It's preferred you keep weapons un-named, as we are in a future setting and they need to be made up, so I'll make them up for you.

Regarding character death, there are limited circumstances under which a character may as per the rulebook—when a character puts their life on the line to gain a bonus to all rolls until the end of the mission, or if a certain death scenario is declared.

Where did this section of the OP go? What about STATS?
This topic had not seen any updates to the OP in a very, very long time. The information posted here was so obsolete that arachnologists believe that the spider cobweb colony that had developed here had begun to show signs of developing language patterns, social hierarchy and maybe even the discovery of fire. The old information provided no help with current gameplay. All character building in regards to stats will be carried out in the Discord in #character-builder.

Forum Games / Savage Archipelago — Rain Receding — [Day 4, Morning]
« on: February 05, 2017, 06:32:17 PM »

What is Savage Archipelago, you might ask?  Picture yourself: You're on a ship, bound for fabled lands out in the vast Verian Ocean, perhaps to trade with them, perhaps to tighten relations with them, perhaps to conquer and subjugate them.  The sails are unfurled and you are full of spirit, ready to take on the quest set before you, but suddenly find yourself caught up in a storm.  Unable to control your ship, you are swept over the high seas for a few days, as you feel the boat straining and creaking underneath your feet.  Soon enough, you find yourself in a lull at sea.  The winds have stopped, and your ship drifts slowly over the expansive ocean for seven days.  Eventually, storms return with a heavy hand and toss your ship once more, until you find it wrecked upon an unknown isle.  You know now that there is no turning back – no one coming to rescue you.  As the storm breaks, you find yourself surrounded with plants and animals unbeknownst to you.  Will it kill you?  Will it allow you to live?  Only your resourcefulness, creativity, and will to survive will determine that.

How do I join?

In order to join, you will need to fill out an application below.  Note, however, a few things:

  • This takes place in the Iron Age, so there will be no gunpowder technology, etc.  You can be at a lesser tech level if you want.
  • When accepted, you will be shipwrecked with other players.  Your language will be decided along with whoever else is shipwrecked with you.  Your apparent ethnicity can be whatever you want, (E.g. "North African", "Central European", "Gallic", "Middle Eastern", "Middle American")
  • All listed fields are required.  Feel free to adjust the format to your liking as long as it pertains to this format in order listed.  Simply replace bracketed fields with the proper information.  Ex: [name] might become Conan.  (Parenthetical notes get removed.)
  • Once accepted, feel free to add any supplementary information to your liking.

  • All actions can be subject to moderator scrutiny.  This doesn't mean that you will be constantly "put in your place" by moderators.  If you're not corrected or addressed, perform ad-lib.
  • Note that if acting ad-lib, do not exploit this to say that you gather resources at an alarming rate.
  • If you don't know what's going on, feel free to ask questions.
  • We don't want to leave you blind, so have some resources that should be helpful to you:
Primitive Technology (Youtube Channel)        Videos of techniques used in the stone age.

Bronze Age (Wikipedia Page)        Historical knowledge pertaining to the Bronze Age.
Iron Age (Wikipedia Page)        Historical knowledge pertaining to the Iron Age.
  • Crafting is relevant to how you describe the process of making something.  You don't have to be incredibly descriptive.  Moderators will rate creations as more viable or less viable depending on the process and materials used.
