You don't force a government to be democratic, you force the people to be democratic. Their voice will change a government (either through peaceful or revolutionary means).
"Seizing" control over a government always means that one person/group seizes control, and I doubt they would really want it to be more democratic once they taste power.

You can't just "nullify" laws that benefit a specific group of people because those laws were made by a corrupt government that isn't for the people.
Overturning a government is far easier than overturning an entire population.  Just try to do it.  Say to the American people, "Let's take the government back for the good of America" and you instantly get people arguing over which the right way is.  Most can't even agree on which part of America matters more.

While people will want to hold on, if your mission is truly "for the people" from the beginning, are you saying that there is 0% chance that they will act in the people's best interests?  Take former President of Uruguay José Mujica for example.  His lifestyle reflects this.

If you seized control of the government, you could.  Take Monsanto, for example.  They're a huge and wealthy company that has unprecedented power that can control politics above and around it and a great deal of an American regional economy, to a lesser extent, the global economy.  They don't need subsidies placed on corn and soybeans, amongst other products.  Regulations set standards for crops and seeds that Monsanto has already achieved, but it makes difficult for other bioengineering companies to achieve with their limited budget and the uncompetitive prices of a larger and more influential competitor.  If you modified the regulations to still allow safe products and removed subsidies, the huge companies would not suffer, and other smaller companies would have more opportunities to find a niche.

Here's a question for (primarily) my fellow libertarians:

Although it may be hypocritical, is it wrong to seize control of a government and stiff-arm it into being more democratic and to give as many people opportunity by forcing the system to be leveled out?  Not in terms of redistributing wealth or anything remotely like that, but just nullifying all laws that benefit specific groups of people and allowing the system to take its course.  It's not necessarily limited to this, but what do you guys think?

(Not related to above)
Personally something I want is a national referendum law to be instituted for veto power.

Where if 15% of the people report to the post office with specific purpose and will to overturn a law, a national referendum is launched, where if more than ⅔rds of all voters approve, the law is overtuned.

I told her that we should both agree
Did you mean "agree" or "comply"?

Seriously, you're not being very diplomatic about this.

She never believed in my loving TV show either.
She was never obligated to.

can confirm
Was aware of this, but that's not why I said it.  More about this:
a society where people actually work together and compromise

This is where I landed, but I actually rest more libertarian because a lot of questions were answered on a pragmatic basis, and others on a belief basis, but those, in my mind, should not affect the policy of state or nation.  It's more of a "just my opinion" kind of thing.  I personally believe in centrism as a truly stable system.  Unfortunately, this test does not test how much you are willing to compromise.

I would say that you were at fault here.

My guess is that your primary love language is acts of service.  Now, understandably, this is really something admirable, and those who have similar "attunement" to this would be better able to understand it and reciprocate it.  My guess is that she wanted something from you, and that you were too focused on this that you really didn't see what she even wanted and recognized the magnitude of it.  Second, it sounded like you tried to take charge in organizing the dom and from what I saw in the OP, it seemed like she didn't have much input in it.  Perhaps she was uncomfortable or apprehensive.  Perhaps she wanted to be able to wait until you both could have a better time.

That is where the misunderstanding ends.

But when you explicitly belittled her when she was not well, you were completely in the wrong.  Love needs EMPATHY above all, and because you didn't even show sympathy, but rather said "what you feel and think is unimportant and what you think is wrong", you didn't care and were keen on showing it.

The biggest problem is that you outright refused to come to an understanding or to acknowledge her.  I don't really feel sorry for you; her reaction seems reasonable.

The Trail of Tears was indeed horrible, and I won't claim anything better than a mixed legacy for Jackson.

But from a purely numerical standpoint, the Trail of Tears claimed the lives of about 4,000 Cherokee, but let's bump that number up to 25,000 for the sake of argument, a drop in the bucket of evil acts perpetrated against native populations by Americans, a smaller drop compared to what Europeans as a whole have done, and a molecule of what conquerors as a whole have done.  That doesn't justify it, but it does put it in perspective.

To say that there's a short list of those more terrible than Jackson goes farther than is reasonable and ignores that he was all for enfranchising the common man and rooting out corruption (although in practice neither of those worked out quite right).
That may be, but Jackson was maybe not directly responsible for all the deaths, but was responsible for enabling white settlers at the time to settle within the coveted Cherokee, now Georgia territory, despite a prior series of treaties that placed protections on the Cherokee.

Earlier in his life, he had an adopted Native American son, whom he neglected, and would not teach him, and the boy died in his youth due to disease.  Jackson concluded that all of them were animals, were dumb, and had inferior bodies.  This was ill-concluded, and historians usually deduce that the actions during his military campaigns and presidency were motivated by this.

Now, naturally, his conclusions during the time were not unusual, and even Lincoln said, closely paraphrased, "I do not think that the black man should be equal to the white man." Many historians argue that this was what Lincoln believed, judged by other statements of his, even though most people tend to cast him as an idealist.  Despite popular belief, his actions concerning slaves were primarily strategic.

Thr point is that despite what people say about the "badassery" of Jackson or Lincoln, they both held similar views towards the colored people of the time.

its all bullstuff. if you were truly liberal, you wouldnt use gender titles at all.
This.

As a liberal, to me it seems hypocritical to continue to acknowledge these differences.  It drives contempt on the base of small differences in both camps, which then leads to discrimination.  It's regressive.

Bump.  Seriously this is getting to be really useful for typing small messages for easy shortcuts.  Best par is that it occurs almost immediately.

Reaction images might be easily-retrieved and resized perhaps.  By using different strings, typing out format might be really neat for auto-filling.  I use "G" [img][/img] because I am already using "I" for .

Pretty much the further you are from center, the less you are aware of how a healthy society is made.  At least in my opinion.
