Only thing I would nitpick at is the presence of fairly dense trees quite so close to the shore.

I was going for a more river like build, I hadn't completed the other side yet. Something like this: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/06/Cayoosh-creek.jpg

Edit: I realize it's confusing since I hadn't added any water in. I tried taking screen caps with some water last night but the terrain under the water was impossible to see.

...that's a lot
with 750 blocks i could make two buildings and a bit of terrain to spare ;_;

Yea I definitely see your point, you can do a lot with 750 blocks. But I like to compare myself to Sylvanor who builds massive cities with hundreds of thousands of blocks. Sure, you may need a beastly machine to run it but i am only doing terrain and vegetation. I would estimate that if I continued on this project and made a complete map it would be around 100-200K bricks. I don't anticipate it being used for anything other than to walk around or screenshots. If you guys would like me to continue this and possibly release a save file for a "finished" product just let me know.

People still build terrain manually?
So far the only terrain generators I have seen lack in that little bit of extra detail. Not that they are bad by any stretch but there is something about handmade terrain that looks nicer IMO.

That is actually only about 750 blocks, and more inland areas with less change in height means i can use even less blocks :D

I decided to try and get back into large projects today and so I am working on terrain. This represents a slice of what is to be offered:

UPDATE: 2/22/16
Finished working on the opposite side of the river. I am getting more and more attached to the idea of completing this as a map.
Below I have a quick look at the build so far with and without water.

Disregard the grey boxes pls.

The current work is still in progress, detailed trees and better colours will come later. For the time being I am uploading pictures to keep track of progress throughout my experience.
Enjoy! (Feel free to rate x/10 and give criticism)

P.S. I am looking to name whatever this terrain will become. Please leave ideas for names you guys think it should be called. Ty!

Another quick little scene. Not sure what to do next.

Thanks, and feel free, I more or less ripped the entire bedroom from google:

Maybe a video in the works? Not sure if I have the mental capacity or time to complete it though.

I like the simple design, however (if i may add criticism), I think you should use a different block-type for the windshield instead of ramps. It has an awkward angle. Aside that, everything else seems nice and tidy. 7/10

Does he plan on making shaders more compatible with lower-end computers? If so, is it possible that there will be less lag and ultimately he could bring maps back?

I am not very good at naming things.

I updated the title so that i can end the confusion i stirred up on accident.

That's not really the point I'm trying to make.
Yea I understand that, this was the first example i could find of a mod idea that was dissed for the most part but became a success later. I know i will get a lot of hate for it but i don't really use the BL forums that often and when i do it's 99% of  the time for looking at builds. So i did become unaware of any other posts relating to topics such as this one. I'll look around more before posting these kind of threads.

on a side note
bounty hunta is always right. That is a fact.
That quote is just a joke, please do not take it seriously

That topic is a terrible example of what you're trying to say. Pretty sure that people knew that it was possible to make a brick look like it occupied less space than it does, and the guy who made the suggestion suggested bricks that could exist on the brick grid as true 1/2 or 1/3 size bricks, instead of the mod you linked where there is a dummy space the brick occupies.
I don't know why you wouldn't just use the buildable vehicles topic, it's a much better example of what you're trying to say...
I tend not to fare well with making topics outside of the gallery zone. Now granted you are correct in saying he did want a different grid system, but I talked to the OP after Vertical print bricks came out and he said it was pretty much what he was looking for.
