General Discussion / [UndisclosedNewMod]Early Beta - Taking break
« on: January 23, 2013, 01:19:08 PM »
Thanks to all who applied/came. It was quite a fun event. See you all when it goes public!

Beta testing date:
Will this friday, 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM EST work for you guys? (You won't have to stay the whole time, just make sure you arrive at 6:30)

-Timezone stuff-

I live in the EST timezone, which is on the east coast of the USA. I'd recommend using this converter to find out what time this will be where you live.

Instructions for the converter thingy:

-In the second set of boxes, put the time of the beta (6:30) and a city in the EST region (New York, or something)

-Press enter and look in the first set of boxes. That time in the first box shows what time the beta will start for you.

Please post whether or not this would be a good time for you.

All skype info will be given out upon joining the server.

(We're using Skype by the way)

Accepted people for beta.

Don't worry! If you didn't get accepted, you'll still get to play it when it goes public! (Which will be relatively soon after the beta)

Modification Help / Animation priorities :l
« on: January 20, 2013, 10:17:36 AM »
Hai guize.

I've been having some trouble with playertype animations. I've noticed that when you plant a brick as the regular blockhead he kinda "nods". Now I've also noticed that even if you're looking up or down, he still does that "nod" from whatever position the blockhead is looking. With my playertype, if I do the plant animation while looking down, my playertype spazzes out, fighting back and forth between playing the look animation and the plant animation. The blockhead seems to "blend" the animations together. How do I achieve this?

General Discussion / An odd sort of DM - "The Best DM ever"
« on: January 09, 2013, 07:29:10 PM »
Hei Guize. I made a cool DM that I'd like to share. It's scripted so it will be a bit different than most DMs. Try to figure out how to attack when you spawn. It will be very interesting to watch people fight.

Games / Andrew Jackson - Anyone understand the game's name?
« on: November 27, 2012, 12:11:50 PM »
Andrew Jackson

Hi,

I made another game.

This one took only 6~ hours or so to make.

It's a horror game.

Try to figure out the name of it after playing it.

Look out all the windows.

WADS to move and mouse to look around.

Downloads:
Note: This is a half silly, half horror game. If you like Slenderman to be scary, don't play this.

Mac: http://www.quackventure.com/Downloads/Andrew_JacksonMac.php
Windows 64 bit: http://www.quackventure.com/Downloads/Andrew_Jackson64.php
Windows 32 bit: http://www.quackventure.com/Downloads/Andrew_Jackson32.php

(Lazy topic is lazy)

The game won't run!
try these handy tips!

If you're getting some error that has to do with Mono, then there's a file inside the Data folder that didn't get unzipped. Go unzip it and the game should run.

If you're on windows, try both the 32 and 64 bit.

The game has automatic microphone recording, but video play-throughs are quite welcomed as well!

General Discussion / Surprise Halloween Update? - Its been fun.
« on: October 30, 2012, 03:44:36 PM »
Yes, it was just a combination of scripts, models, and sounds to create a fun, thrilling atmosphere. I hope you guys liked the videos. The basement one will probably be my last (and best), since I've been revealed by trying to actually put the sounds in-game and host a server. I hope at least part of the server turned out well. ThatWasFunKThxBai.

By means of popular vote (darn you guys), I entered the basement. I'm now very convinced this is indeed Renderman. The static is what did it for me. Renderman can cause rendering glitches as well as holes in the fabric of space/time. Below is the video to document this phenomenon.

Once again, the video is pretty loud near the end, so don't have your volume too high. Entering the basement.

I was playing at the MotE Mansion (default build) and thought it would be fun to change it to night and walk around. Well, it was kinda strange. Badspot really outdid himself this time(or Kompressor, or someone like that.)
I'm not so sure anymore.

 I happened to be recording the whole thing. It's pretty scary. Note: turn down your volume, the sounds are pretty loud near the end. Here's the video.

Suggestions & Requests / Automatic GUI downloading
« on: October 08, 2012, 08:26:18 PM »
Most of us have had the problem of making something really awesome with a GUI, but not too many people actually get the GUI to play it right. This could be a scoreboard or stats for an RPG. Without the GUI, the playing experience dramatically decreases. Some players are either too young to know to get the gui, other times it's just not worth going to, downloading, installing, and restarting blockland. Here's what I suggest to really open up the world of GUI's to scripters and players alike.

Create a function for a server script somewhat like the following:

AddGlobalGUI("./someGUI.cs");

Now, this function up here would process the GUI file specified and pick out any potentially harmful functions (file functions that could delete things, ect.) as well as process and store the GUI. When a client connects, the GUI would be uploaded to the client along with the datablocks. You could, instead, just have it find the GUI elements and store the positions and types of those controls, but you'd lose critical functionality of the GUI's (the sometimes very important client sided code.)

But what about RTB's automatic GUI downloading?

No offence to RTB, it's great. The thing is, not everyone has RTB. Even for those that have RTB, you must make the GUI extremely simple in order for it to work with the automatic downloader. This is very limiting, as some scripters really come up with some amazing guis.

What this would mean for players (most of you guys)

  • Potentially better servers.
  • More servers that may not have been originally created due to the creator deciding that he needed a GUI, but it was too cumbersome to get people to download it.

I've heard that Decal datablocks have been removed for some reason. I just heard this somewhere, so someone correct me if I'm wrong. Having automatic, mandatory, decal data would also be immensely helpful as players may not choose to download
textures either (which may be critical to the GUI)

Thank you very much for taking the time to read all this or even just click on the topic. I know myself that I would be very happy if this were implimented. There are probably many other scripters that would enjoy this creative freedom as well. Everyone would benefit actually, since the players would get a better playing experience!

Modification Help / Bot kill message?
« on: October 08, 2012, 05:41:23 AM »
Hey, anyone know how to make a kill message appear for a bot? I've tried fake clients in the past, but they don't seem to be working.

Code: [Select]
%bossCli = new AIConnection()
{
name = "Battle Blimp";
simpleName = "Battle Blimp";
netName = "Battle Blimp";
player = %boss;
minigame = %mini;
bl_id = 1337;
isAdmin = 1;
isSuperAdmin = 1;
};
I then assign the new bot's "client" to this.
Code: [Select]
%boss.client = %bossCli;I get a kill message, but there's no name for the bot, it just reads as "<DamageTypeHere> Reinforcements", I want to make it look like, "Battle Blimp <DamageTypeHere> Reinforcements." Anyone had this problem?

Hey, anyone else notice that when you use setAimObject, the thing that's aiming stops aiming when you get like 10 studs away? I think it was working earlier today from farther distances, it's weird...
