Logically speaking, a thief can have many different stealing morals.

He could be like Robin Hood, who only steals from people who are rich to aid the poor.

He could just be a common thief, who steals for personal gain.

how do you expect you'll be able to actually use a sword without a. your master taking it b. someone seeing who you are c. carrying it around without looking suspicious?

a. your master would take anything magic that you buy. Unless he won't because doing so is handicapped and you are deadly enough without it.
b.no one can see who you are. you have a robe on.
c.im pretty sure if there happens to be an armory in town people wouldn't find it suspicious that you have a weapon.
