Modification Help / Re: HELP: Add-On Ingame Loading!
« on: October 26, 2012, 05:41:19 PM »
it didn't "break in this version" it's been broken for a long time, failbinned over 3 times, and people still keep using it.

it does not work.
you cannot load datablocks ingame.

edit the values directly - PlayerStandardArmor.maxForwardSpeed = 9001;
then do updateDatablocks();

Doesn't excuse Lub and Ephis behavior toward other services and the community.
yes. this.
Not sure you actually thought about that post, Glass. Kalphiter has had a service for 2 years and he has this:

http://69.64.43.11/login.php

How can anyone be behind that?
looks functional enough for me!

very well. all this is doing is raising my blood pressure and making me tired. I'm not convincing anyone, so I'll see myself out.

I wish you the best.
Don't bash Kalph anymore, thanks.

Why are you still discussing trust issues involving keys? We've gone to great lengths and expense to ensure security, but if the user still doesn't trust us after that, they don't buy a server, it really is that simple. This definitely requires no further discussion.
if you actually read my post (which I know you didn't) you would realize I'm not.
I'm about you spending 4-5 months bashing kalphiters service blatantly in his thread in order to further your own.

if you had not done that, and had instead promoted your service via teasers, or flat out not mentioning it, I would be behind you 100%.

is it just me or is lugnut making himself look like an idiot?
I don't trust people who spend 5 months bashing somebody.

sorry I'm normal.
Im confused as to how people would ever feel safer giving their key to some random Blockland user rather than a moderator and creator of the most mainstream Blockland mod.

You people are dumb.
said random blockland user has 2 years of experience under his belt.
the other guy isn't a moderator, and he spent 4-5 months bashing the experienced guy.

Nope, it's secure from anyone in the world trying to do anything malicious such as impersonating the rtb website for instance.
that's still not what I was getting at, but I'm way too tired to try to explain
Okay - so you were just being dramatic then. This isn't even worth discussing - if they can't trust us with their key then they won't buy a server. Simples.
just raising some points people might not have considered. nothing wrong with that, right? :cookieMonster:
Ephi seems to be alright on the trustworthy scale, I'd trust him and lub with my key seeing as it isn't too valuable to me. Plus if anything went wrong, I know who to blame
ok -
and hopefully badspot would help me out.
*screeching tires sound as mental processes grind to a halt
aaahahahahaah you put way too much faith in him with these guys
besides, the best he'd probably do is revoke the key and not give you a new one

the page is only secure from rogue users on your network from sniffing.
not from you guys.
once the key is in the game, all is okay as the key.dat cannot be moved, and playing blockland via vnc is loving handicapped.

the question lies in the medium: even ingame eval mods can be rigged to log. remote console /is/ logged.

so i ask the community: how much do you trust your dedicated service provider? do you trust them with your identity?

ps this applies to kalphiter too

ssl secures communications to and from the client and server.
it does not do anything to secure data after being decrypted by the server.

it would be trivial to log keys being input, for both kalphiter and lub.

What will your service have that lubs won't?
less stupid from the service provider.

answer: no

solution: try learning about tcp objects and networking in torquescript.

In terms of response time, maybe, but in terms of downtime, no amount if negligible.
bull loving stuff

I just went over this four loving posts ago!

you pulled results from the one time in 7 months that he had downtime!

that seven months number is an educated guess. it's probably longer, not counting the scheduled, flawless switch between rack servers a couple months ago.

as for that, I suffered all of 20 minutes downtime, I was ready for it, and no one was on my server. sounds negligible.
e: clarity.
also, the outage on the 22nd can't be called 'unpredicted' either. kalphiter personally joined every server and spoke to the administration and told them.

one: would you mind sending me the ip of the comparable server to run my own tests?
two: i'd like to note that that post is inaccurate on kalphiters part, his server experienced the first down time in... months recently.

furling crop that loving image

What I'm interested in knowing is how you are launching servers. By default, Blockland dedicated servers run on a logged in user's account - this costs more resources than necessary for advanced hosters. I've had moderate success in running Blockland servers as a service, however, the only way I have been able to do so is by circumventing the launcher. This is not ideal because it requires the server to be updated manually and it would generally be best to utilize the launcher.

I also see great potential in the control panel created to maintain the Blockland servers. I liken it to such a feature as McMyAdmin for Minecraft. Are there any plans to produce a portable version for everyday users?
just manually update them. it's not like there are new versions every day.
