Off Topic / Too paranoid to sleep
« on: July 31, 2011, 02:15:43 AM »
Ok:

After I shut down my computer and went to bed. Just before I turned off the lights I hear a cracking sound. While looking at my cat I noticed she was looking at my poster behind my bed. I turn around to look at the poster, nothing. I turn back to my cat and back to the poster again. I hear the cracking sounds again from the poster, and on the corner of it I see black spider legs come out and touch the front of the poster. I loving SWEAR I was out of my bed and into the living room under 2 seconds (its a short hallway anyway).

There is my number 1 thing I am paranoid that is right next to BSoDs: Spiders. And if you didn't already know I hate spiders and yes, I am frightened by them too. I don't mind them if they are a "daddy-long-legs", jumping spider, in a container/box, or a image on a wall or screen. Why I am so paranoid? About a month ago I saw a spider for the first time in a long time and since then more and more have appeared and now I do not feel comfortable in my own room, better yet: my own house.

As I post this I am too paranoid to enter my room, I may have to sleep on the couch tonight, that is if I can without that thought engraved in my mind.

ts;dr: I don't like spiders.

Off Topic / DSL vs. Phone
« on: July 28, 2011, 07:50:02 PM »
So, I thought I would test my DSL and Phone line to see which ones faster, I noticed with the phone line that pages loaded a lot slower than DSL. I thought I would try testing the speed of my DSL and my phone line on the same servers and compare them:

I just thought it was interesting. Are the phone lines always slower than DSL?

Off Topic / Upgrading an old computer - need suggestions
« on: July 27, 2011, 03:48:04 PM »
My grandfather is giving me his old computer that is about 10 - 5 years old without a doubt will be incredibly slow and I plan it to be my all-in-one system (Gaming, heavy multi-tasking, storage PC, etc)
I do not have the system yet, but he plans to ship it over in a few days.

Here's the planned upgrades (That I need to buy):
Graphics Card:
ATI Radeon HD 5770 ($149.99)
ATI Radeon HD 6790 ($139.99)

Hard drive:
1 TB Western Digital Elements WDBAAU0010HBK-NESN ($69.99) - No security features or 1 TB Western Digital My Book Essential WDBACW0010HBK-NESN ($99.97) - With security features

Processor (CPU):
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Processor - 3.2 GHz Chache, Total L2 Cache 3MB, L3 Cache 6MB, Packinging: socket AM3, Thermal design power 125W ($169.99)

Random Access Memory:
G.SKILL Sniper Series 4GB (x2) ($84.99)

Motherboard:
GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 ($159.99)

The hardware I scrapped from another computer (the motherboard died):
1 GB RAM (x3)
Phoenix BIOS
CPU Heatsink
3 SATA cables
500 GB Hard drive (Windows Vista installed)
VGA Cable
Acer Monitor
AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core Processor (Will act as a temporary upgrade)

The biggest problem is with the motherboard and that it might be too old to run this hardware.
Can anyone suggest a good all-in-one motherboard? I price range I prefer is $100 - $175.

If you can find better graphics card or processor that is cheaper I would happily appreciate it.

Off Topic / Windows Shell Common Dll problem
« on: July 06, 2011, 03:32:22 PM »
When I tryed to configure my microphone (which couldn't record) I keep getting a "Windows Shell Common Dll" from the window wont respond. Now when I try to enter the "Recording" tab, I get the Windows Shell Common Dll error and it closes.

It also can't view YouTube videos because of this, I have tried to reinstall Adobe Flash to fix this problem: It didn't work.

EDIT: Winamp wont work either, this might be a sound driver issue.

Can anyone find a solution?

Off Topic / Headphone static noise problem
« on: June 22, 2011, 02:17:25 PM »
This has been going on for many months now, and its very annoying.
If I have 2 processes with active audio such as Blockland and Youtube Video or Terraria and Minecraft or Minecraft and Winamp, I will start to get a static noise. This isnt just annoying, it also slows down my computer and hog my CPU usage.
Although if I unplug the headphones the sound will play correctly and wont slow down my computer or CPU.
I have already tested this with DS headphones and Sony Stereo headphones and I still get the static noise.

Windows 8 will be the new successor of Windows 7. How much is there to say?
Currently it is unknown if the name "Windows 8" is the codename for the new operating system or will be the commercial/market name.

Off Topic / "Battery" issue
« on: April 18, 2011, 05:02:00 PM »
I have had a red 'X' over the battery icon for while now, and its annoying when nothing is wrong with my battery (as far as I know).

It has constantly said "There is a problem with your battery, so your computer might shut down suddenly." and "Consider replacing your battery.".

I have a laptop that that charges in the wall instead of battery replacement. From the messages, my computer hasn't "shut down suddenly". Although when its off the charger is uses more power than it normally would before the issue.

Also, I don't think there is a place where a battery can be replaced.

Any help?

Off Topic / Windows 98 internet connectivity problems
« on: April 03, 2011, 04:54:23 PM »
One of my virtual machines, Windows 98 in VMware is unable to connect to the internet, it has connected to the internet before, the internet options have been configured to use LAN connections (so it may use VMware connection).

It constantly brings up this page. I also opened the about window to show which IE version I was using.
