Could someone modify the Top Down playertype to have a toggleable third person(top down view) and first person?(Doom Playertype.Cant look up or down, regular speed.)

Suggestions & Requests / Hotline-Miami playertype

The Playertype
A top-down player that instantly dies if he takes damage, but zoomed out further. Pressing tab/third person key will zoom out even more.

"First person":Default view from the top down playertype.
"Third person":Zoomed out even more than the top down playertype. Player is not centered to the screen, but the camera is placed infront of him so you only have 180 degree vision instead of 360 degree.

Extremely overdue question, just like the RTB2 one.

It seems to me that after V21, "darkness" pretty much got killed off unless you turn on shaders. (Remember GSF maps at night and how you absolutely NEEDED the Night Vision Goggles addon to even see? Extreme darkness.). Even in dark situations from environment files, unless you turn on shaders, its not too difficult to see. This is the best way I can try to explain it. Anyone able to describe it better?

By Night Vision Goggles, I meant Gravity Cat's. There was another one you could activate by a keybind that only tinted the screen green.

Without shaders, the default brick textures have white edges that glow in the dark. Same with Faces and Decals that use color. It's easy to see in the dark with these textures because the edges of all bricks literally glow. Without maps, everything is made of bricks so these textures are seen much more than before.

The game didn't become brighter, it just seems that way because there is no alternative to brick builds.
I suggest using custom brick textures.

General Discussion / What happened to this one blockland machinima....
« on: April 24, 2014, 09:32:54 AM »
It was called "The Hunt" by Chaseysqrt or something similar. It was extremely well done in terms of action, camera work, music, voice acting(if you consider dialogue taken from TF2, Counter Strike, and other games), and sound effects. It was made between v18-v20, I think. I do remember seeing a few maps and terrain.

Some scientist was captured, so the military raids the Afganistan build, and a huge shootout starts. People get blown up by rockets, shotgunned six feet into the air, and so on. The scientist gets rescued, at the cost of almost everyone that took part in the raid, military and hostage-takers. Helicopters are shown flying back, and the hostage takers are then shown preparing a explosive on the place where the hostage is hiding. Cue explosion and a cliffhanger.

Did that video get deleted? Was the guy who made it terminated due to copyright offenses or something? What happened to it?

Would it be possible for someone to make Dr Hax's Banhammer from the Gmod Idiot Box/modify the banhammer to only kill people? It should not be able to ban, but do an insane amount of damage that can one hit kill almost everything.
He's talking about this

Correct me if i'm wrong.

There should be a way to see the description.txt when picking addons for a custom gamemode without having both blockland and the addon folder active at the same time. Click an addon in the list, and have it show the description.txt.

When RTB3 came along, how come nobody made a RTB2 addon backup that I know of?

Off Topic / 15 things I noticed about shooters in general.
« on: April 06, 2014, 09:06:16 PM »
Warning:Contains links to Tv Tropes. Don't open too many tabs.I shortened this to 15 because its already a huge wall of text. Mostly applies to shooters, whoops. Changed it to "15 things I noticed about shooters in general". Old title was "15 things I noticed about videogames".
1)It doesn't matter if you are a ordinary guy who's never used a gun in your life before. You will have perfect accuracy with that pistol/handcannon/alien ray gun. The recoil of firing that Desert Eagle/Automag/other hand cannon will NOT snap your tiny baby hands, and can be fired at the same rate as the normal pistol in that game. You magically know how to operate a gun if you are a protagonist of a video game. Unless its Deus Ex(first one only), System Shock, or Alpha Protocol. In those games you must invest points into using a gun.http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HandCannon

2)You WILL rack up a bodycount higher than humanly possible. I'm not sure if you are a hero or a glorified Flash Mober. This gets obvious in games like Battlefield, Medal of Honor, Deus Ex, Alpha Protocol, Bioshock(all games), Half Life 1 and 2, and so on. Even in the Mario games. You basically run through the various different worlds while stomping the stuff out of everything that moves and killing them.

3)Pistols are better than shotguns and everything else when it comes to range in most games. A pistol is actually a handheld sniper rifle in disguise, hence the term "sniper pistol". Team Fortress 2, Half Life, Blockland(default gun), Call Of Duty series, Deus Ex 1(Attach a laser sight to the pistol and not a scope for perfect accuracy, although this is more exploiting a bug), and so on have this. Alpha Protocol is good at averting sniper pistols unless you use Chain Shot and go for the head.http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SniperPistol

4)Shotguns are unrealistically short ranged in most games. Pellets go MAYBE a centimeter before dissapearing. Notable offenders:Call Of Duty series(To a massively annoying extent), Halo(unless its the first game), Metal Slug, PAYDAY 2(A patch nerfed shotguns.), and XCOM:Enemy Unknown.
Notable aversions of "short range shotgun" include Left 4 Dead series, Customizable Weaponry for Garry's Mod, the first game in the DOOM series, Max Payne 3(sorta), and Grand Theft Auto:The Ballad of Gay Tony(Exploding shotgun is a godamn sniper.)
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ShortRangeShotgun

5)Coop games are usually 4 player coop. Serious Sam,however, has 16 player coop on some of the games.

6)Reloading is handled weirdly. Despite the reload animation showing you throwing away the entire magazine, you will still have all those bullets in reserve. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OneBulletClips

7)Theres no risk of hearing loss, either from firing a shotgun inside a airvent or a car with the windows closed, or from a machinegun going off next to your ear. Unless its an explosion, in which case you MIGHT suffer temporary hearing loss.

8)AI Teammates in Modern Military First Person Shooters are beyond useless. They stand there ordering you to do an objective, fire inaccurately, are invincible, and never get targeted by the enemy because the enemy prefers to gang up on the human player.http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ArtificialStupidity

9)Enemies in videogames often yell at you to surrender or drop a gun. Even if you do, they still fill you with lead. Why are the cops shooting to kill because they caught me jaywalking? Grand Theft Auto series, Deus Ex 1 and 3, and many other games are offenders of this.http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SimultaneousWarningAndAction

10)The AI only pays attention to the player. NPCs can be holding a gun openly, but the instant YOU pull one they realize you are the player and gang up on you.(Hitman series and Postal 2). In the Hitman series of videogames, NPCs can carry guns openly(as previously stated), go into restricted areas, and pretty much do anything. If the player does the same thing, they open fire.http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ConspicuouslySelectivePerception

11)Tactical Shooters(Not Counter Strike, I mean as in SWAT 4, the early Rainbow Six games, and ARMA) are dead.

12)Sniping is represented by a scope overlay completely blocking the screen, letting you only see the scope and nothing outside it. That's kinda unrealistic.. Red Orchestra 2 and Hitman:Absolution get it right. Even the REALISTIC tactical shooters GET IT WRONG. Rainbow Six 3 and the ARMA series are guilty of this. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/38742-suggestions-for-the-dayz-standalone-thinking-outside-of-the-limitations-of-an-arma-2-mod/ search for "changes to sniping".

13)Games made "more accessible" are almost always dumbed down. Deus Ex:Invisible War, the Rainbow Six Series after Lockdown, and Ghost Recon are offenders I can think of right off the bat. Consolitis plays a huge role in those games. Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon went from Tactical Shooters with actual strategy to Call Of Duty with slightly smarter teammates that you can give orders to. Deus Ex:Invisible War had universal ammo, because managing ammo is too hard for the average console player apparently.

14)Regenerating health is everywhere. PAYDAY:The Heist does a partial example of it, where armor regenerates but health does not. Everywhere else, though, and its BLOODY SCREEN! SO REAL! HIDE BEHIND A CORNER FOR 3 SECONDS AND HEAL THE BULLET WOUNDS! WOW! SO EASY TO PLAY, AND NOT DIFFICULT AT ALL!! NO NEED TO HUNT HEALTH PACKS! NO NEED TO CONSERVE RESOURCES!
15)Difficulty level is based on numbers instead of actual difficulty.
Easy Mode:You die in 50 hits and enemies die in 1.In essence, you can tank damage.
Hard Mode:You die in 3 hits and enemies die in 50, plus they have perfect accuracy. You are extremely squishy, and enemies are resilient to damage.
REALISTIC MODE:You die faster than a guy being shot in the head with a .50 caliber gun. Enemies die in 135234523462346 hits, and have perfect accuracy.Reference to Deus Ex and Far Cry here. You die even FASTER, but enemies are suddenly made of iron, and can take a point range shotgun blast to the forehead without their head exploding.

I could post more, but I already have the wall of text here. Maybe another day.
it's tvtropes, it'll be no use warning them since they'll crash their browser from the tabs they'll open from the sheer amount of addictiveness from it

also, this is just for military shooters, not videogames in general woops, forgot that military shooters are the market now

good list though

General Discussion / Opinion on bumping a thread?
« on: April 06, 2014, 05:57:43 PM »
What would be your opinion on someone bumping a thread? Random question.

130
Zipties
Ziptie and Ziptie breaker. Zipties work like the handcuffs addon, but they are disposable. Only ziptie breakers can remove them.

Slayer "Alliances"
Set one team "allied" to a seperate team. For example, a 4-way TDM, but I want a certain team to be "allied" to another one. Any teams "allied" to another team(Ex. Blue Team allied with Magenta team) will either A)be unable to damage eachother or B)Die when they kill any of the allies from the other team.
This is possible by setting two teams to be the same color, and then checking 'have same-color teams allied' or some button like that.
Nevermind.

Why?
So I can make the "Spaceship/plane hijacking" idea in Slayer, no gamemode needed.

Suggestions & Requests / Spaceship/plane hijacking gamemode
« on: March 23, 2014, 11:11:12 PM »
Does not intentionally bear any relations to 9/11(IN SPACE!) or the the Malaysia airlines hijacked airliner, but its inspired from the game Sky Marshal on Roblox.
Basics
There are four teams. This gamemode is intended for 4 to 20 players. Friendly fire is off, but that only means a Guard can't kill another Guard, but he can kill a Pilot or Passenger. Anything marked in GREEN is optional to do, since you shouldn't follow this EXACTLY if you decide to make it. These are more like guidelines.

GUARDS must guard the ship and are equipped with a regenerative ammo(Limited ammo, but reserve ammo slowly regenerates) pistol, one ziptie(One time use, instantly immobilizes the player, forces them to hug and stand still/sit/crouch), and a ziptie breaker(removes zipties, infinite use). Guards instantly die upon killing a Passenger/Pilot.

HIJACKERS must take over the ship by capturing the roosterpit. They have three zipties to tie down passengers, a ziptie breaker, and a sawn-off shotgun/short barreled(Serbu Super Shorty, AKA the Locomotive from PAYDAY:The Heist suggested, or a sawn-off double barrel.) with regenerative ammo(Limited ammo, but reserve ammo slowly regenerates). Hijackers can freely kill Guards/Pilots. If all passengers die, the Hijackers instantly lose because they need atleast one passenger alive as a hostage. Guards/Pilots do not count as hostages, because they can defend themself from the start.

PILOTS must stay in the roosterpit to keep the ship on course. Failure to stay in the roosterpit will result in the ship crashing into asteroids(minigame resets). Pilots carry a smaller, weaker pistol with regenerative ammo(Limited ammo, regenerating reserve ammo) and a ziptie breaker. No more than TWO PILOTS. Only a pilot and his/her co-pilot. Pilots instantly die upon killing a Guard/Passenger.

PASSENGERS are the innocents without a gun. If all of them die, the Hijackers lose. They only exist to be tied down(if they aren't fighting back) or shot dead(if they scavenge a gun). The majority of players will be a PASSENGER.

How many members of each team?
PILOTS:Only two pilots.
PASSENGERS:Most of the players.
GUARDS and HIJACKERS: Some of the players, but slightly less than the PASSENGERS. Maybe maximum of 2-4 hijackers, and maximum of 6 guards?

Items, Weapons, Doors, and the roosterpit
At the beginning of the round, the door to the roosterpit is barricaded. It cannot be repaired and must be damaged in order to open the door. Pilots must be touching the chair in order to "fly" the plane, but the chair obscures his view of the door. Shotguns have a tight spread(Spaceships aren't that wide open unless its Pecon7's boss battles.) and kill in one hit if most of the pellets hit, Guard Pistols are 2 hit kill, Pilot pistols are 4. Melee weapons can be found, such as a suitcases and stun guns.

TL:DRGuards, Hijackers, Pilots, Passengers. Zipties restrain people, Ziptie breakers unrestrain people, Hijackers capture the roosterpit to win, Pilots must camp the roosterpit or else the spaceship crashes. Scavenge mod or something else should be used to randomly spawn items for Passengers to use.

Remind us what your request is. Wouldn't Slayer work fine for this?
Yeah, except for the "Pilots stay in the roosterpit so the plane doesn't crash" and "You die if you kill a team you are supposed to protect(Guards kill passengers/pilots, Pilots kill passengers, etc).

This doesn't concern datablocks. When doing a "custom" gamemode, theres a list of addons and circles next to them. Thats what I mean.

Is there a limit on how many addons you can have available to select when doing a custom gamemode? (By limit, I mean "shove too many addons in the addons folder, and when you go to the custom gamemode menu some of them won't appear.)
There's probably a technical limit to how many virtual functions can exist before the game breaks. Probably like 3,000 add-ons or something.

I'm concerned as to why you want to know.
I have a crapload of addons in the addons folder.
Hopefully because he wants to have a rough idea when he has to stop enabling them. There is not really an easy time efficient way to count them though, so I am still missing the OP's point.
Not enabling them and reaching a datablock limit, though. I mean the menu when you pick which addons to use. If I have an excessive amount of addons waiting to be enabled/disabled in that menu, will they show up?

(Guns don't work that way, I know. Rule of fun.)

There should be a weapon(different colored default gun or something) where ammo slowly regenerates when not shooting. The player can reload at any time to instantly refill ammo, but he only has a limited number of extra magazines to instantly refill ammo.

Think of it as a combination of Overheating from Mass Effect 1 and thermal clips from Mass Effect 2.

Every single gun with a reload and limited ammo system in Blockland works on "One Bullet Clips". (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OneBulletClips)
This gun would avert it. Fire a bullet and reload, and you waste the entire magazine. Ammo boxes will refill magazines.

Soooooo unlimited ammo even though ammo is unlimited anyways?
Sorta. Unlimited ammo, but theres two modes of "reload", which is not firing the gun(ammo regenerates slowly) and reloading with the light key, which reloads instantly and uses up a magazine.

Off Topic / I fell for the "SSFN File" phishing on steam.
« on: March 08, 2014, 11:47:44 AM »
There is a new method of Phishing out there, and that is uploading a SSFN file to bypass steamguard and let the guy get access to your account.
Naturally, this means they transfer everything in your inventory to theirs.

It all started when a Russian steam group that randomly added me posted a steam community link. Deciding to log in, I had to upload a SSFN file for steamguard. I noticed right after uploading the file that Steamcommunity.com was spelled SteamcommITITY.com, and that it was a phishing website. I instantly changed my password, email password, and de-authorized every steamguard computer. Steam Inventory says I have no TF2 items, but in TF2 I still have all my stuff.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/1yw25k/psa_new_phishingscam_technique_on_fake_steam/ might help.

Any advice you could offer to avoid letting this happen? What should I be looking for? Aside from the obvious misspelled URL, which means that it is too late, if in right.
Never upload SSFN files to steamguard.

Suggestions & Requests / Gmod Murder gamemode
« on: March 06, 2014, 09:39:32 AM »
The idea, and general advice
A gamemode in BL based on the Gmod Murder gamemode. Think of it as SMM, but only ONE GUY has a gun, there is less RDM, and only ONE GUY is a murderer. Murderer has to kill everyone, the guy that randomly spawns with a gun must kill the murderer. Killing the wrong person with the gun will result in instantly dying as punishment. A corpse mod should be used so when the bystander with a gun dies, he can be looted by another innocent, but not the murderer.

Suggestions for weapons: Swollow and Uxie magnum(http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=244244.0) for innocents, Tier Tactical knife for the murderer.
