I have forgotten how to speak. When I am out and about and I attempt to communicate with other RTH (real-time humans) I merely lift up my hands and waggle my fingers at them. It helps if there's a keyboard around.

TSE is an awesome product but my poor graphics card won't support its advantages much anyway :\ But poking through TGE itself has been awesome - it's really such a great engine that in many ways isn't being used to its full capabilities, and TSE adds that much MORE core functionality that it quickens the pulse a bit to consider.

That's refreshing to hear you say, Digi. You and I used to get along swimmingly... maybe we'll return to that. Hit me up on AIM anytime you want to discuss this sort of thing.

You're funny.

It's so funny you mention that because I was thinking about this in the shower last week... on the current controller, say: d-pad moves brick,2 buttons move up and down, right brown townog stick rotates bricks, left brown townog stick moves player, a 3rd button is jetpack, holding down left trigger activates brick selection: left-right moves through slots, up-down cycles through bricks/colors (like the mouse wheel inTBM/RTB), left trigger press-release by itself changes between brick placement/spraycan, right trigger is like left mouse button.

Would be AWESOME.

@Luq, still, don't you think if a user wants to use a map in say AIO, that he should be able too?
It's not enough to just copy and paste the map file, they have to edit out toyboxes and the like or else they won't be able to run the map. And if they're clever enough to do that, they're clever enough to edit out the quit(); function. Taking that script out of the equation, you still can't just plop any TBM map into AiO or RTB and run it.

Quote
P.S. No matter what you wanna call it it is still restrictive, and is not needed. You want to protect your stuff? Then stop using .mis, and make your maps .dso. Yes its possible, and if you guys at TBM can't figuare it out, tough.
I think we can figure it out just fine. Nice try at a dig, though.

I talked to gobbles, and he had no problem with someone using hs maps as long as you aren't sticking them in your own mod, even with giving propper credit.
And that's really what it comes down to. One of the strengths of TBM is our maps. People taking those maps without even asking and packing them into their mods really, really gets my dander up. There are some maps that were really popular that we've released for the general public - Office, if you recall, which AiO then renamed "Quiet Zone" and didn't credit me, but also if you recall I didn't kick up a stink becuase I released a version for everyone. Computer I never did because it was more of a gimmick map, and Grill  I haven't yet because I'm waiting until I get more new maps out. Gobbles has released a ton of his maps for any mod to use. What more do you want from us? Code-wise, AiO used Rob's color palette script with Rob's blessing, and I'm sure there are other examples.

In either case, this "debate" is stupid. TBM's banned from being posted on these forums in its current state, RTB usually has more servers, and that's that. What the hell else do you want to accomplish? We're not open-sourcing our mod, if that's what you want. It's a pointless, stupid debate. You think we're wrong, we think you're wrong. Get over it, no one's going to convince the other that their point of view is wrong. I'm surprised Badspot lets this discussion even go on.

Okay, I hate to keep arguing semantics, but

You know damned well that nothing in TGE can affect anything outside of the torque folder, so it's not even malware.

No, friend, that script is called "copy protection." Simple, easy to break, but that's all it is. It's not an exploit, it's not spyware, it's not a virus, it's not malware, it's not any of that sensationalist bull that you guys keep throwing around. I didn't even know it was in there and I have MCP's beta2, RTB, and AiO-R all installed in the same BL folder.

P.S. If the end-user wants to decompile their .dso files, i have no issues with it, the end user has the right to see whats being put on their PC. Otherwise, its right there with spyware. Infact some of their scripts (that i've seen here) IS SPYWARE. It spys to see if the maps is used with another mod. Thats spyware.
Digi, don't be an idiot.

Definition:     any software that covertly gathers information about a user while he/she navigates the Internet and transmits the information to an individual or company that uses it for marketing or other purposes.

I wasn't aware that that script transmitted information back to TBM team members.

General Discussion / Re: Best moments of Blockland
« on: October 18, 2005, 12:29:59 AM »
When I first released Islands of Blockland, I had a server up running vanilla since it was before BLM. We had a full server and everyone worked together to build a tremendous sky city - really, while not the most impressive builds compared to what people do these days, it was an incredible thing to do because it was before floating bricks and before persistence.

Around the time of TBM 1.0-1.3 I would join servers under a different name and just quietly build. I was going through some rough times in my personal life at the time so it was really peaceful and refreshing to just create things with other people anonymously on a mod I helped create.

After TBM 1.16 during the downtime but after the bannings I'd often host 2-3 listen servers here on my various computers while I was at work. It was always so awesome to come home and fire up the monitors and fly around to see what everyone had built. I'd have to hit F11 to see how far out people had taken bricks, especially when I started running IoB on servers and people would slowly work bricks out to the crappy unflattened islands well beyond the draw distance and then proceed to create these incredible works of architecture and art using what you've got to admit were rudimentary tools.

Just some of my memories...

And we didn't even need 1.21 jigawatts. But the question of the day is: Is this forum still going at 88mph?

MagicPants said "biased and lame", which is true, but this is also horrible wrong.

AiO did not come about until the first time the forums crashed. This would have been around BLM 1.6 or so.

BLM didn't really have a "staff" of modellers and coders - it was a compilation mod, just how AiO started, that aimed to pull together all of the small mods, maps, and content on the forums into one easy-to-install package. For the better part of BLM's life (up until about 1.4 or so), it had much more quality control than AiO had/has.

You need to go buy a book on, proper, comma, usage.

The Scenario Mod had CTF, not DM, and it was not the first. The first was rain's CTF mod that Scenario was just a repackage of. Scenario mod had nothing of note which is why very few people played it.

Anyway, I think Wedge made one that was a little better. Not sure what the point of a BL history is, especially one that's so wrong.

jesus christ get over yourself.  You act like tbm never stole anything.  Did you code everything from scratch without using a single guide? No you used the resources on GG just like everyone else.  Where did those models come from, Did you make them? No, you stole them from loving ldraw.  Where did all those environment textures come from, did you make them? No, you stole them from all loving over the place.
My textures aren't stolen, I make them, as do most of the TBM mappers. Most of the new bricks in 2.0 were modelled by hand - it was faster than porting from LDraw, where half of the vertices were inverted or something goofy. And regarding resources on GG.com, we don't copy and paste + change a bit here and there.

I'm touched though that you think that the environmental textures are stolen - that means our mappers are doing a good job.

ANYWAY, back on topic - Lego has had a history of horrible decisions when it comes to gaming, so let's see what they do. Now, is the GG.com publishing offer still on the table as well?
