Off Topic / How do I force myself to write?

So, for the past few weeks, I've had to write a ton of short essays about different experiences I've had. The problem occurs whenever I try to start a new essay or paragraph. I end up freezing. I realize that anything I put down will be crap right from the get-go if I don't have it planned out. So, I sit for hours like an idiot trying to think of the perfect start. So far, I haven't made any progress.

So, question time. How do I force myself to write well-thought, stylish essays?

Better yet, hao2force creativity?

Help / Blockland crashes in the middle of joining some servers

There seems to be a problem where I can only join certain servers, while others make my application crash. Here's the console log I had that, from what I know, had to do with joining the server:

Help / Subtract a variable from another variable

How do I set it up so I can use a variable to modify another variable? Example:

  • Player has 25 attack power (client variable)
  • Bot has 30 hp (brick variable)
  • Player clicks on Bot
  • 30 hp - 25 attack variable = 5 hp left for the Bot

Has anyone done this before? If not, does anyone know how to do it?

Help / Variable Events - onRelay can't check Client variable?

I'm trying to make a simple bank system where people can either deposit or withdraw their savings all at once. However, to do so, I need my events to be able to tell when to stop giving money to the player.

Here's what I have:

OnActivate -> Self -> FireRelay
OnRelay -> Self -> FireRelay
OnRelay -> Self -> VCE_ifVariable [cyrbank] >

OnVariableTrue -> Client -> VCE_modVariable [cyrbank] subtract [1]
OnVariableTrue -> Player -> VCE_modVariable [cyr] add [1]
OnVariableFalse -> Self -> CancelEvents

So, basically what I want it to do is look at the client's value for how much money they've already saved (cyrbank) and keep decreasing that while adding the same amount to the player's money (cyr). Then I want it to stop when cyrbank equals 0. Can you guys help me out? What am I missing?

Whenever I have a bot follow a player, they're basically clinging to whoever they're following. How about a way to set a radius for how far away a bot will follow a player?

E.G: Say the radius is 10. That means the bot will follow at a distance of 10 or greater. If the player stops, the bot with stop at 10 units away.

What do you guys think?

Just two simple events that would make activating and deactivating events in a brick easier, so instead of disabling all the events on a brick this way:

OnActivate -> Named Brick [button] -> setEventEnabled -> [0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10] []

You could disable them like this:

OnActivate -> Named Brick [button] -> DisableEvents

And the events could be enabled again in the same manner.

Gallery / Custom Robo (ß Version)

I'm 12 and what is this: This is simply a build meant to emulate the gameplay of Custom Robo. Custom Robo is a game which is based around customizing your fighter from different pieces and parts, and then beating the other guy into scrap metal. Does this sound fun? If so, you might like this.

The Café: Mainly made by the co-creator, Reinforcements. This is where you'll socialize when you're not fighting. (Seriously, though, why wouldn't you want to be fighting?)



The Customization Room: This is where the magic happens :cookieMonster: you get your primary and secondary guns, as well as your body type (three custom playertypes). You can only take one of each.



Stage Select: Self-explanatory. So far there are four stages to choose from, and they can all be previewed by selecting them and hitting the red "V" button. When you and your opponent agree on a stage, you can lock it in with the red "!" button. Then, proceeding into the teleports, you are teleported to your selected stage. (This took a while to event, but so far it's payed off in the sense that I haven't found any glitches)

Practice stage: A good stage to start on if you're new. The walls are transparent in most parts, so battles here will most likely be won by skill and not stealth. The two light gray blocks in the middle are able to be destroyed.



Cyber Lab: Made by Reinforcements. It's easy to lose track of your opponent here, so if you feel like you're always on the run, this stage will help you get the jump on your enemy.



Cube Panic: Transparent cubes make stealth difficult. Many different holographic prisms block your path, and may even disorient. Try to keep a level head when you fight here. On another note, though, isn't it pretty?



Garden Zone: Plants? In my technology? It's pretty hard to lose your opponent here; use the arch to dominate the arena.


Ratings and such: If you'd like to take the time to rate x/10, please feel welcome. For the more daring, you may rate x/11. If you feel like giving constructive criticism, please do so.

Server Hosting: Reinforcements may get the chance to host our build this weekend. I most likely won't be there, but I have confidence he'll be a good admin. I'll get a server status box in here at some point.

What I want is to have it so when the minigame resets, a random number is generated. (From 1 to 3)

When a player activates the brick, a different item is given to them depending on the number generated.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Gallery / Simple Medieval House

A lot of people have requested for a "setmusic" event, and I just thought this could make it happen if it was possible.

I'm suggesting a "ifmusicplaying" variable check that would look to see if the client was still playing either a certain music file or any music file.

It could be set to be none or any song in your music folder; also you could have a loop of checks to see if a player is standing on a baseplate, and then if it comes back true...

Onplayertouch -> client -> ifmusicplaying [Music selection (None or any song in your music folder)]

Onvariablefalse -> client -> playmusic -> [musicselection]

And if the player already has music playing in the background, it doesn't play the file again.

You could also have it so it checks to see if a certain song is playing. In the example, the player is leaving the forest and entering the desert, so the forest music needs to stop and the desert music needs to start, so...

Onplayertouch -> client -> ifmusicplaying [Desert]

Onvariablefalse -> client -> playmusic -> [Desert]

I realize the events look incomplete, so if someone needs me to explain it more clearly, I'll try. I'd really like to see this become a reality.

Suggestions & Requests / Pictures/ideas for medieval buildings

I'm working on making a large medieval RPG world, but my buildings turn out either semi-ugly, or just plain box-shaped.

Have any of you out there found better ways to make olden-times houses? I've found a way to make fairly good log cabins, but I'm looking to make the towns diverse and enjoyable to stroll through.

If you have any suggestions/examples, I'm really looking for inspiration here and would appreciate any help you could give. Even if you're a newbie that hasn't played the game before; if you think you have a good idea, please post.
