Suggestions & Requests / Timer and Parties
« on: July 10, 2011, 12:06:27 PM »
I've been playing BL on and off recently, so please point me in the direction of these mods if they exist already. Otherwise, here is my suggestion:

Parties:
I think we need some sort of party system. Typing "/createparty" would create a party and make you the leader. "/invite [name]" would invite someone to the party (Leader only). "/kick [name]" would kick that person out of the party (Leader only). "/disband" would remove everyone from the party (Leader only). "/partychat" would switch you to a chat channel dedicated to just the party. "/leavechat" would allow you to leave party chat. "/join" would allow you to join a player's party when sent an invite. "/leave" would let you quit the party.

In addition to all these commands, events doing all these things should be available. Also, events should be able to target a party (i.e. OnActivate>Party).

Server settings should also exist for this. Things like max party size would be nice to have.

Timer:
A timer mod would be very nice. It should be event controlled or controlled by admins via commands. Events would be:
StartTimer [ ] (Check box to determine if timer counts up or down)
StopTimer
SetTimer [            ] (Timer is set to that time in seconds)
ResetTimer (Sets timer to 0)

A larger GUI at the top of the screen would be nice.

Suggestions & Requests / 1 vs All Gamemode
« on: May 27, 2011, 04:50:39 PM »
Two teams: 1 vs All.

Team "1":
-Maximum of 1 player allowed on this team.
-Scores points for killing other players which is displayed on the bottom (as "Current Kills") of all players screens at all times.
-If this player is killed by another player, current score of this player is uploaded to a "Highscore" variable displayed on all players screens at all times, next to "Current Kills" (displayed as "Highscore"). The player that killed this player joins this team and the old player is put onto the other team. All scores are reset except the Highscore. Option for all players to respawn when this happens should be available.

Team "All":
-Any number of players allowed on this team.
-Players on this team can't score points.
-Any player on this team that kills the "1" joins that team and the old player from "1" is put on this team.

Options for setting team appearance and playertype should be available. Team spawns should be available.
When minigame is created, creator joins "1" automatically. After this, the player that kills "1" get to join it.

Suggestions & Requests / Minotaur Playertype
« on: April 22, 2011, 06:21:43 PM »
I feel that there are a lack of truly unique playertypes, especially ones that could be "bosses". It'd be great if someone could make a blocko minotaur playertype.

Off Topic / School Parkinglots
« on: April 20, 2011, 04:22:08 PM »
Intresting story today. My school parkinglot fills up FAST (Most people arrive within a minute or two of eachother), so it's natural if you are late by a minute or two you could end up without a spot (No assigned spaces). Unfortunately, today I was one of those kids. I pulled into the parking lot (point A) intending to drop of my brothers, when luck would have it, I saw a spot (Point B)! I started to back into it when a car (the red square) tried to block off both spaces. As soon as I backed up, they pulled forward and laid on the horn. I was quite upset at the loss of my spot, so I decided to cut my losses, drop my bros off (point D), and park by the school's football field so I could make it to class on time. After I dropped them off, I glanced at my clock. I had plenty of time and decided I'd make one more run at the spaces. I proceed to drive around the parking lot (above the black rectangles) until I reached point E. A car at F was trying to park at C, but the red square car wouldn't let them because it backed up. The car at F then got mad and left. Meanwhile, a car was trying to park at B. To compensate, the red square car pulled all the way forward to box them out. I saw my opening, I pulled into C, put my car into park and walked away like a boss. I heard the red square car's doors slam and people start yelling "F___ you, kid". Made my day.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Games / BrikWars
« on: February 21, 2011, 09:56:07 PM »
I was digging through a box of old papers in my room and I came across a stack of about 100 papers that I had printed out a few years ago. It is a rulebook for this game called BrikWars.

I was telling my friends about it and now we're going to get together and play it. It looks like a bunch of fun for people who like table top war games.

Anyone else heard of/played it?

Like Line Rider, only you ride other peoples tracks and control your bike.
Up Arrow - Gain Speed
Down Arrow -  Break
Back Arrow (Depending on how you're facing) - Lean back
Forward Arrow (Ditto.) - Lean Forward
Z - Change directions of the bike
B - Change between Speed bike and Trick bike

You can also design tracks.

I don't remember much about the trailer I saw. All it has is team fortress type characters and a black guy with dreadlocks.

I've had an idea rolling around in my head for a while and I've decided I should finally go ahead and make it. But first I'll need to learn how to make a game capable of being run by MAME. So does anyone have any experience with this type of thing, or can anyone point me in the right direction?

New news, old news, I don't care. A friend showed me this and I thought it was interesting as I hadn't seen anything on this.

Games / LAN party hosting help
« on: January 09, 2011, 07:12:32 PM »
As of Christmas, a lot of my friends and I have update our computer hardware and such or have gotten computers. So I had the great idea of starting up LAN parties at my place and it sounds like a great time. The only problem is a good selection of games to play. So, what would you guys play at a LAN party?

Now, before posting, keep this in mind. We don't have much money lying around and our specs aren't the greatest, so games that don't require as much will be the best.
Between us, we have PC's, a few 360's, a PS3, a couple Wii's, 2 GCs, and an N64. I'd like the games to be on PC, but we can play other ones.

Last thing you should look at before posing, I'd like variety. Please don't post a bunch of RTS's or FPS's if there are already a lot of them on the lists. Unless they are unique in a big way (Not just map, weapon, or slight gameplay differences), please post games of different genres so we have a wide option.

Here's what we've decided to play thus far:
The Specialists (One of the most fun FPS's)
Starcraft (First one cause we all have it and it doesn't really get old)
Super Smash Bros. (Doesn't matter which one, they're all good)

Later on we'll probably be playing The Ship, so that's in the que.

Ok, now start suggesting!

Games / Minecraft - Quest to the West Challenge (JOIN A TEAM TODAY!)
« on: November 27, 2010, 09:42:06 PM »
Quest to the West

Two teams, one mission. Build a Minecart track as far west as possible from a starting location.

About
So this is an idea that's been floating around in my head for a few weeks and I thought it was about time to put it into motion. I wanted to create some sort of challenge that would test minecraft players as well as making them work together to create something great. This is what I've come up with.

Rules
  • MUST own MineCraft Alpha.
  • Players CANNOT modify the other teams tracks.
  • Players have to build at least 3 straight tracks after any curved track.
  • Players must build a curved track after 10 straight tracks.
  • Players can place Obsidian blocks on up to two sides of the other teams tracks. After these have been placed, the cannot be moved. Teams cannot build over or under Obsidian.

Current Objective

"Netherway" and "Union Pacific Railroad Company" are the two teams. Pick your team. Server will start within two days. If you haven't joined by the time it starts, you are still able to join, but I choose your team to keep things fair. I'll have a list of the teams below.

Other Notes
Here's just a few other things I thought I'd mention:
A small disclaimer, I  will be the final judge of what the team names will be.

Also, I'll update the OP with changes and updates. This will include rules, which team is winning and so forth.

Last thing, I'd like to provide a prize for the winning team, though I'm not sure how. I don't feel like spending boatloads of money on a ton of people buying them each $10 steam games or whatnot. So until I can think of a better prize (Or if someone can suggest one to me), then I don't think there will be prize. Just bragging rights.

Off Topic / Magic: the Gathering
« on: November 21, 2010, 10:52:56 PM »
...has consumed my life. I pay 5 bucks a week to play Friday Night Magic at a local comic shop (Which isn't that close to me, so gas gets expensive), competing for prizes I know I won't win with my current decks. I just got done with this tournament called "The League" that took up the past 6 weeks, during which I spent $37 on and received 165 cards (Worth an estimated $70). And I spend a large majority of my free time play-testing decks and coming up with new strategies while researching cards on the internet.

Anyone else in the same boat, or for that matter, would like to hop in?

Suggestions & Requests / Class Spawn GUI
« on: November 11, 2010, 09:03:56 PM »
As of late, whenever I try to make a class-based TDM or what-have-you, I've had to use VCE to do so. This works, but it's quite tedious and a pain to modify. Here's what I suggest to make it easier.

When a player enters a server, a GUI pops up on their screen with a list of classes and an "Ok" button. When a player clicks on a class name, it highlights and the loadout/playertype of that class is displayed to the right in it's own list. When the player is satisfied with a class, they click "ok". Whenever they spawn, their playertype and loadout automatically change to that of the class. Also, when a player first joins the server they are unable to spawn until they pick their class.

Classes can be customized from another GUI only admins can access. It would have appropriate boxes to add a title for the class, the playertype and up to 5 tools or weapons. When they finish customizing a class, it is added to a list that all clients can access. The admins can also delete classes from the list.

A great series made by the great Olan Rogers. If you haven't seen it yet, I suggest you do so. Unfortunately, the 5th and final episode isn't out yet, but it should be coming out soon. I personally love the effects he uses and some of the lines are quite memorable.
