Nightly (afternoon) Update 07-18

I'll start doing these daily notes I suppose. I'm finishing up early today since I have some real life things to do, whatever that means.

  • Colorsets are in! You can see previews and automatically change them out
  • Comments are now loaded on add-on pages. Currently, only the latest 10 are loaded. JSON strings too long apparently cause a buffer overflow and crash the game, so they must be loaded seperately. Page navigation is likely coming tomorrow
  • Only 'stable' add-ons can be downloaded through the mod manager; others will be displayed, but a download button will be absent.
  • GUIs now resize better after rendering

I'm going to do a bit more work, then I'll push out a "nightly" on the updater.

At this point, I'm just going to assume that anyone who has Glass installed doesn't mind frequent updates and alpha features. I don't want to take time off developing what I'm already working on to add a "transfer branch" script to the site, so the stable branch is now the development branch.

Screenshots! I'm working on a way to enlarge them currently, but you can now upload them. Go to "My Add-Ons" on the site and there'll be a new button.

Only PNG and JPEGs allowed.

I personally think there should just be 1 repository, and every addon manager just pulls from this repository. You'd just upload your addon via BLG, BRV, BLR, etc. and it would be pushed out to the other 2 managers hassle-free.

Of course that would stifle competition, shoot.
I think that would work out.

Add-Ons uploaded to one may not have full features on the others, but they certainly could still be listed, for the user's sake. The hosting service will be the developer's choice for their feature suite, and the users can pick which add-on that has the features they want.

Competition would be maximized, the community would have the most choice, but there wouldn't be clash of user base.

I think we should plan some sort of summit to bring together the three projects' heads to discuss these things in real time, either voice or text. Greek2Me could be the head of it, since he seems to be the middle man of all.

Three systems, actually. I agree, it's a terrible idea. The community needs so much, and it would be a lot better if each of us tackled a separate task instead of making three (probably near-identical) copies of the same thing.

Thanks, it's definitely going a lot better than my haphazard attempts a few years back.

I actually just pushed out an update for the few people who had v0.1. The new site verification system is live, so that's a bit important.

Edit: my old domain expired, therefore anyone with v0.1 won't be getting the update notification. Uh oh.

All future add-on development talk will take place in it's own topic. I'll save this for general service updates and big releases.

I agree that it's a problem. Each team/project is perfectly qualified, and while competition is positive, we either need to have defined differences so that we're not all just clones of eachother, or work together.
