the biggest update in this article is at the end when we talk about “The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth” the console remake due out sometime late next year (we hope).

After receiving 80+ questions via formspring and many via email, i have amassed what i believe to be a definitive check list that should clear up most-all confusion on what the binding of isaac remake (Binding of isaac: Rebirth) is/will be.
-Rebirth is a totally remade game based on the flash version of the binding of isaac + wrath of the lamb.

-The game is being produced and developed by Nicalis, the guys who did all the cave story remakes and the VVVVVV port.

-Nicalis is working on the port for Ps3/Vita and PC (steam) and is also currently talking to MS and Nintendo about releasing on their platforms. we are also looking into an iOS version if its not garbage.

-The remake will feature all the content featured in BOI+Wrath but will also feature another Wrath sized expansion over the top that will feature a new final chapter, ending, 2 new playable characters and tons more items, rooms, enemies, bosses and the like. the goal will be to make replaying the whole game not only worth it but also make i so it feels very fresh and new.

-The remake will feature content that was removed from the flash version of the game due to limitations (secret stuff!)

-The remake will feature LOCAL 2 player co-op… no online play because that will just extend the release by another forever.

-The game will go into full time development the 1st of the year and is set to be finished by the end of the year (but we know how this stuff goes)

-The game will feature new music by Danny B as well as some spicy remixes of old tunes.

-I will be lead designer on the project, making sure things are as perfect as we can make them and as true to the original as possible, i will also be designing all the new content and features.

-The game will be getting a full 16bit make over, im doing this because i think the art is tired and im sick of looking at it. i think a fresh coat of paint is needed and i think its kinda appropriate/funny to do a damake for the remake.

-We will try to do a loyalty pre-order discount to anyone who owns the game on pc.

tidbits:

-the remake will run perfect/fast finally!
-we went with nicalis because they were the only dev team im close to and that i trust with my IP.
-the remake will be fully retuned, balanced and improved.

the biggest thing to keep in mind here is that development is just starting with the remake, nothing is totally set in stone and a lot will change over time. Im currently in full time development of Mew-Genics with tommy and we have a few other little tricks in store for you next year so my goal with Rebirth is to simply make sure the remake is top quality and then detail out the expansion and updates once development is much farther along… this remake wont slow down any games im currently working (and thats reason why someone else is doing it!).

more updates will be posted as i get them :)

hope that clears things up.

-Edmund

Off Topic / The Blockland Christmas Thread
« on: November 25, 2012, 01:40:28 PM »

Yes folks it's that time of year again. Christmas is a time of family, presents, food, snow, TREES and happiness. The Christians believe it was the birth of Jesus which is why some people and schools put on 'nativities' where the re-enact what they think happened. A lot of other people just celebrate it as a holiday when 'santa' comes in the night with presents. Then enjoy a lovely full feast of food as lunch comes around. Then the next couple of days binge on a million turkey sandwiches.

Thread might be a bit early but you know, last year I made it on November the 7th and nobody complained. Maybe next year I'll be able to wait till December! Heh.

So anyway, discuss what you're doing for Christmas! The family your going to see, the food you'll be eating, the presents you're asking for, the trees you'll be decorating, the christmas songs your listening to, the special tv shows your watching, the presents your giving and generally let's all talk about the, in my opinion, best holiday of the year! :D

Off Topic / Doctor Who - Christmas Special
« on: September 01, 2012, 12:26:13 PM »

Info

Doctor Who is a British television show (that is now airing more in America). It features a time and space travelling hero with the species of a timelord who goes by the name of 'The Doctor' or just 'Doctor'. This timelord when dying has a feature to change his appearance and 'regenerate' (allowing a different actor to take the role), though if in the process he his shot or killed in some other way he will die forever. His race was killed long ago in a timewar, a giant war between the timelords and the Daleks, the Doctor's most feared enemy. Even though the Doctor was a rouge timelord he still misses his counterparts. He travels in a bigger on the inside police box named 'The TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space)'. Normally he has one or two companions (ranging from a human, to an alien, to a talking tin dog) with him who eventually die or leave. The show started in 1963 and ended in 1989. It was when revived in 2005. So far the show has had 11 Doctors and the current Doctor is played by Matt Smith.

Games / Starbound
« on: July 04, 2012, 10:10:05 AM »

About

Starbound is a brand new game undergoing active development by Chucklefish, an indie game company made up of a lovely group of dudes and dudettes.  It’s expected to be released towards the end of Summer 2012, but we’re willing to take the extra time to get things JUST right.

If you like what you see, please feel free to leave a comment or tell your friends.  We hope this blog can be an insight into the trials and tribulations of the development process, the people behind the game, and what we hope to achieve.

A story within a sandbox

Starbound begins with you fleeing your homeworld in a space shuttle, just as it’s destroyed by an unknown enemy. With nothing to guide it, the escape pod shoots into space without direction, becoming hopelessly lost in a sea of stars. As luck would have it, the space shuttle makes contact with an abandoned space station and an adventure begins that will take you hurtling across the universe. Starbound contains both quests and story driven missions, buried inside its vast sandbox universe.

The Space Station

The space station in Starbound is sprawling and full of potential. Throughout your travels you’ll find ways to upgrade and repair it, restoring it to its former glory. You’ll need to find a crew, conduct research, catch rare creatures, and unlock its multitude of facilities. From a factory capable of producing mechs to labs where captured enemies can be studied and trained, the space station contains everything you need to explore the universe.

Endless Planets to visit

Planets in Starbound are entirely procedurally generated and filled to the brim with unique content. We went into the planet generation with one simple goal: no two planets should be the same. By procedurally generating even the smallest details, we’re doing just that. Not only is the terrain of the planet procedurally generated, but the weather, the gravity, the difficulty level, the plant life, the behaviour and appearance of alien creatures, and much more all contain random or procedurally generated elements.

We want you to feel like an explorer!

Because we’re working so hard to make each planet unique, we want to give you the tools to catalogue the things you find and make sure absolutely everything you find has depth in the world. Much like old school point and click adventures, absolutely every object in the world, right down to the trees and flowers, can be examined for a description.

See a weird alien tree? Examine it! Maybe you’ll discover something about its use! For any explorer, sharing discoveries is important. So whilst the game is fully coop (Bring your friends along! Form an expedition!) you can also record your findings in an electronic logbook. Not only that, but each and every planet has unique coordinates in the Universe that you can share online, so other players can check out exactly what you found!

Finding a new home

Exploring is wonderful, but everyone needs a place to call their own. That’s why we’re letting you claim an entire planet!

When you claim a planet as your new homeworld, a whole new aspect of gameplay opens up. Everything that makes a planet unique is at your command. Feel like changing the weather? Build a weather centre! Don’t like the terrain? Terraform it! Every aspect of the planet is under your control. Once you’re happy with it, start populating it with characters you’ve met in your travels and take care of them! They’ll have needs and desires and won’t hesitate to ask for your help if they require assistance.

The game also includes multi-monitor support (?)

This is only just scratching the surface of what we have in store for you in Starbound.

Games / TF2 Starts Lagging at Around 4pm - Ping is fine?
« on: June 13, 2012, 01:38:09 PM »
So recently TF2 has started to lag at around 4pm (and almost all day on weekends sometimes).
I think it's because lot's of people are suddenly using the internet at around those times, but my ping seems fine (around 30 - 80) so I don't really know if it's an internet issue on my end or what.
Does anyone know of any fixes for stuff like this or is there nothing I can do (except change internet provider which I can't do for reasons I can't be bothered to explain :c).
I would have posted this in the megatop- oh wait I've already asked the question before and it got drowned out. :cookieMonster:

Anyway thanks in advance if you try and help and yeah.

Games / [SPOILERS INSIDE] Batman: Arkham City Sequel Speculation
« on: May 11, 2012, 04:06:09 PM »
So I just finished the main story of city (and it was amazing, as I'm sure you all know) but now that the Joker is 'dead' do you guys think there will be a sequel? If so do you think the Joker will be in it? I found a nice piece of text that describes what I'd love to happen.

'It's the Joker, he's not dead and isn't sick anymore. If you ask me that was his plan all along, at the end Batman himself carried the joker out of Arkham City therfore he escaped Arkham City, and it fits the joker to trick Batman into helping him escape. If they make a third game It will start with joker in the back of an ambulance covered by a white sheet on his way to the morgue then he'll sit up, take out the driver and start chaos in Gotham City. Plus Harley Quinn is pregnant with the Joker's kid and there is just to much potential for a good story with Joker teaching him how to take down the Bats.'

I love the Joker as a character and I'd hate to see him leave from this series, so what do you guys think? At the same time as I'd love to see the Joker return, I'd be cool for another villain to be the main mastermind for once.

Hopefully the new DLC will reveal all.
