Off Topic / A Short Display of my Self-Restraint

It's a success story.

I closed the browser without responding =D ....
However I did take a screenshot and post it elsewhere on the internet... hmm... a small step I suppose.

"If you don't care, don't post."
I've been in a place where lots of arguing goes on, though I rarely involve myself with the arguments other than to try to end the conflict, this phrase has taught me how to find the root of what I really care about, and after my 4 year journey of discerning morality, it's also taught me how to avoid, find the root of, or solve, almost any conflict that I come across.

What have you learned from the Blockland forums?

Off Topic / Fear
« on: June 17, 2012, 03:51:15 AM »
I've noticed a trend.

Zombies for example, are no longer appealing to me.
The fear of another human being, perhaps the one closest to you, turning on you and killing you like a monster, has been numbed by older users.

They need replaced.
Let's share our fears together.

I fear the feeling of hundreds of prickly insect legs crawling across my skin, closing me into a coffin of claustrophobia.

What do you fear? [Try to be as detailed as possible]

Off Topic / [Found] Free Screen Recording Software
« on: May 16, 2012, 11:00:05 AM »
NOT FRAPS.
None of that watermarked bs.
What are a few free programs for screen recording?

*edit*
Preferably a program that has the ability to target a game on flash-player.

Gallery / Cookie Monster
« on: May 01, 2012, 03:38:24 PM »

A bust of the cookie monster.

How I made it:
Step 1: Made a 3d model (I should've based it off of a better reference but the next step takes out alot of detail anyway)

Step 2: Used http://www.drububu.com/miscellaneous/voxelizer/index.html to voxelize my model into cubes.

Step 3: Painstakingly recreate cube model in blockland.

I'm sure using this method some modelers that don't build can make some pretty neat things.

Suggestions & Requests / Placable Floating Bricks
« on: April 30, 2012, 02:17:13 PM »
I'm making something that would be much easier to complete if I could simply place floating bricks.

-I know 99% of blockland wouldn't use this.
-I don't give a damn about 99% of blockland.
-I give a lots of damns about whoever makes this.

"But J_MASTER what could you possibly be making that require floating bricks?"

AoT General / My first experience with AoT
« on: April 24, 2012, 12:02:31 PM »
Spawned, figured out the controls, it actually looked like a decent area when I started walking around, got the sword, went to the shop, undressed in front of the mirror, checked out the police station, jailed myself, walked around in the wilderness and killed a few ogres and got about 24g, went to the bank, deposited 19g, blown up by dynamite. Spent next 30 minutes trying NOT to get blown up by dynamite.

Apparently Darkcop, Bloodynex, and Taru are in a little gang that griefs players by finding them and killing them over and over till they get a demanded 5k.
It's just pathetic that to enjoy the game themselves they have to keep new people from being able to play the game.
No wonder this is dead.

Gallery / Medieval Village (Image heavy?)
« on: April 22, 2012, 11:05:30 AM »
Didn't have internet for awhile so I decided to take a few things I'd built, and add on to them, build some more, and throw them all together in one nice looking little village.
I made everything here.

You begin in a cave, with your friend [whatever the hell I called him] backing you up as you hop around in a generic cave with a few twists and turns. And yea, I know the faces on the torch where the wood meets the metal are glowing.

First view of the village as you exit the cave, sign to the right is a pathcam that worked, then stopped working, then worked again, just an annoyance that impeded progress, but looked amazing in gameplay.

Another angle of the village.

Taking out frustration on the training dummy.

Decent picture looking towards the dojo.

View from inside the dojo looking out.

I actually evented all of these books to basically tell a story in chat, complete with sync'd music for a better feel of the environment the book puts you in.

Upstairs view of me sitting by the fireplace in the bigger house.

A dark view of the mine.

Torch, activate!

The rest of the mine.

I originally planned to make this a playable server, taking the effort to event the whole thing, add quest npcs, gave the whole environment appropriate music, etc. But I think I'm just getting sick of eventing, so I stopped. Had plans for this to be one of three areas; Village, City, Castle would've been the order you'd see the builds if this was all working correctly. But I suppose I don't get past the planning stage often. Ohh well. Feel free to rate, but if you do, explain your rating. I don't post my stuff here much.

Suggestions & Requests / Blueprints - New Server-mod Concept
« on: April 18, 2012, 09:07:19 AM »
This isn't a complete idea, just a general hey-this-would-be-cool.

Scenario: Server has some kind of theme, for example, steampunk. Let's say your goal is to get as many points as possible to your score, for the sake of simplicity.
In order to increase your score you need to build a series of machines that fire relays and make subtle sound effects (unless they overheat and explode or something) all based on Blueprints. In some way based on the type of server, you can get blueprints periodically, allowing you to see the bricks needed and in which places to build your machine.
Of course there's the flaw where a player would look at another player's machine, but you could simply only allow them to build that structure and make it functional if they have the blueprint.

Or maybe make it something completely different, I just thought the very general concept of blueprints would be a neat idea. Even if players could make their own and post on a little database.

Off Topic / "Mum, Dad, I want to be a Game Designer" - Video
« on: April 17, 2012, 02:17:19 PM »
I stumbled across this video on youtube while looking at some animations, and out of curiosity, I gave it a click.
Blockland in general is about creating new things, or improving on old ones. The game gives users a community that is engrossed with the developing skills of game design. After watching this video (it was made by EA, so the video is a little buggy) I figured that many of you might be interested in this, or just to watch something that may give you some inspiration or insight on to new fields of creativity.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiQcANX3NNE&feature=related

My problem was, the video is about creativity in game design, so where the heck do I post it? Creativity for things YOU created, wouldn't really fit in Games, since they're for playing. And off-topic is just a jumble. But eh this should work.

You'll get most out of the video from the first 20 minutes, after that it's a bit dull, but post a reply about what you thought of it, what ideas you got, if it did or didn't inspire you, what you feel was left out of the video, etc.

Suggestions & Requests / Additem Event Fix or Alternative
« on: April 09, 2012, 07:56:15 PM »
I've been looking for a fix for event_additem, because on my server it seems to disable pathcams, and make bricks switch events around like mad. Yes, I'm 100% sure this is the event causing it.
Anyway, can you suggest an alternative event that does the same thing as additem, minus the glitchy junk?

Suggestions & Requests / Light Key - Torch
« on: April 07, 2012, 02:03:33 PM »
Would it be possible to have a server sided mod that allowed a torch model to be placed in the hand that had a fire emitter and dim orange light? All of this replacing the normal player's light, of course.

Mapping Help / LoZ Wind Waker Map Rips
« on: April 06, 2012, 12:55:33 PM »

I gained the ability to rip the maps from Wind Waker.
How would I go about compiling the textures and whatnot to make it a blockland map?
