Off Topic / Article - Men Eat Meat, Women Eat Vegetables
« on: April 04, 2012, 07:32:02 PM »
http://evolvify.com/evolution-men-eat-meat-women-vegetarian/
I was eating at Bob Evan's with my grandparents and my grandpa made a statement about how he didn't know how my grandma could stand broccoli. This made me think about what might have caused these "taste tendncies". I promptly googl'd my suspicion and came up with the link above.
It's a decent read at the very least, check it out!
Post your thoughts on the subject, parts of the article you disagree with, parts that you agree with, post about your experiences, etc!

Suggestions & Requests / LOZ WindWaker Character Sounds
« on: April 02, 2012, 07:12:31 PM »
There are a few sound/music files for the loz series. But I have been wanting some sound fx that the people use in WindWaker. Specifically the old man on Outset Island that gives you a sword and trains with you. I find his grunting hilarious.
Could someone package this? How would you go about getting the sound files in the first place?

Suggestions & Requests / Modified Camera Events for Cinematic Angles
« on: April 01, 2012, 04:04:28 PM »
Could some talented scripter out there modify the camera events (somewhere on the forums or rtb) to offer more views than the cardinal directions? For example, add North East, South West, North West 45degrees down, South East 45degrees up.
It would be handy for making cutscenes with events.

Suggestions & Requests / History's Hero

Why Am I Posting This?
I do alot of vce eventing and make quaint little servers with new concept games that I've made, but I don't know if I'll have time to even attempt this one, so I figured I'd pour out my ideas on here so that they can be used by some people that like them and have the time to bring them to life.
So this idea probably won't involve any new 3D models, or scripts. Just server concept.

The Basic Idea
You start very far back in time, perhaps as a caveman for example. You help your tribe, complete quests, like for a caveman that would be killing animals for food or gathering plants, either you can choose from. Towards the end of your caveman experience, depending on how well you do you'll get assigned points, maybe if you die you'll be forced into the next age, but that's inevitable. At some point you'll enter the age of bronze, skipping ahead a bit. As a more advanced person you'll be doing more advanced tasks, maybe delivering goods, protecting your small village from a neighboring enemy. Continue this pattern, getting a little more complex as each age passes. Eventually you'll have to fix some circuits as a mechanic on a huge ocean liner which you aren't sure if it's the Titanic or not. Perhaps it ends in the future, when the world is destroyed, or when you run out of ideas =P your points will be tallied, and added to a hi-score board.

That's Nice, But What Will I Be Doing!?
Of course any concept is trash if your player is going to be doing the same repetitive grinding or crappy copy and paste system. Sure that's easier to make, but that's just not appealing.
The whole idea of this is being creative with your quest-line. Originally it could start out kind of like a medieval rpg, being that you'd have to hunt and gather, collect resources to make armors. But then that age would be finished. The next age could hold a gradually different game-play style, maybe you could even go from Roman Wars to Steam-Punk Detective. In this sense, it's an evolving puzzle, where the more you progress, the more difficult and unique your challenges become.

Okay... So How Will It Work?
I've thought of a few ways to pack all of this into one server. Basically when your character makes it to the end of your age, you'd be teleported far away from those bricks so that you wouldn't have any client lag. Though if a single age is very large (quest and content wise) you could also split that age up into several pieces. You could create a free roam area, but close off sections to players to save brick-count. The eventing would vary depending on what you want the quests to be really, here are a few simple examples:
Age - Example
Caveman - Collecting resources/killing threats and gaining exp.
Bronze Age - Collecting/converting/transferring resources/killing threats and gaining exp.
Roman War - Dialog for where to fight/repairing weaponry/Piloting a vehicle into battle.
Noble Age - Advanced dialog to solve a murder mystery/cleverly executed relays and sounds/dangers and ways out
Engine Age - Repair broken parts of machines/solving mini puzzles
Slave Age - Escaping from your oppressive owners/dramatic dialog/mapped escape routes
Modern Age - Dialog to get through a school day/troubleshooting computer problems
Future Age - Battling with lasers/complex machinery repairs?

You're Aware That You're Insane... Right?
Yup. I know the whole idea is basically a mesh of what already exists, but I think putting it together is what really makes it unique. Plus you could get all kinds of people to play, I mean, who wouldn't go through all those ages just to make it to the future? Lasers are awesome!

Kay~ I'm Going To Post a Reply After Reading This Whole Thing.
     I'd really appreciate that ^.^

Help / Eventing Macros to Speed Up Drone Work?
« on: January 14, 2012, 12:57:21 AM »
Are there any programs/addons (free of charge and safe to download of course) that would make inputting the same say, 10 events or so, easier? Alot of times I've run into spending 80% of my time just inputting these events (drone work) when it only took me a few minutes to figure out how to accomplish it. Big time waster.

Games / NetHack - A Rogue-Like Dungeon Explorer
« on: July 18, 2011, 05:05:51 AM »
http://www.nethack.org/common/index.html
NetHack seems to be based off of D&D, and it takes a bit of learning to get started, I recommend surfing the wiki: http://nethack.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
Also, there is a tileset or whatever they call it, that will replace the ASCII graphics that can be found on the main website. There is also a neat isometric modification called Vulture's Eye, that I haven't tried yet.

Basically you choose from a fairly large list of roles (Rogue, Ranger, Monk, Knight, etc) and races (Human, Dwarf, Orc, etc) alignment, gender, and create a name, and stats will be rolled up and displayed on the bottom of your screen. This is generally the norm for D&D styled games. You are aligned to a grid and start out with several things based on your role and race, and you also have a pet. Your goal is to retrieve some magical amulet of sorts down past the 20th level, so basically you need to go down stairs the whole game. Throughout your travels, you'll find monsters, loot, shops, and a bunch of other neat objects in the world, not to mention the crap-load of items. One downfall of having soo many items, is that some of them will be cursed, and once you've been cursed, it's hard to remove, so I'd recommend checking items for curses (read the wiki).

I've been playing for a day or two now, and the furthest down I've gotten was level 6, and my score was around 5200, I was playing an Orc Rogue. If you play this, post how far you get!

Off Topic / Interesting Trick Involving Air Pressure and Smoke
« on: July 11, 2011, 07:04:26 PM »
I was surfing youtube, and I came across this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuQlb7E-8g4&feature=related
Apparently, there's some neat science trick that you can perform which allows you to simulate how pressure systems work in a visible way, you know what. Just watch the video.

Or if you're too lazy:

(Don't breathe while you attempt this, also be aware of the lighting in the room that you are in)

Step 1: Inhale, close your mouth, hold your nose.

Step 2: Make a clicking sound with your tongue 5-15 times (If you don't know how, watch the video.)

Step 3: Put pressure against the front of your mouth, and against the air in your mouth.

Step 4: (Don't exhale!) Open your mouth, and let the smoke flow out.

Exhalation will make the smoke go away very quickly and you won't be able to see it well.

See this pressure trick in a plastic bottle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUdR9xESD64&feature=related

Drama / Uno da cat
« on: June 05, 2011, 03:43:05 AM »
In a zombie killing server with latency, Uno tried explaining how using 1x1x5s were better than using 1x12x5s, also stating that "im trying to reduce lag" by doing so. Also he claimed that this added "detail", which I've never heard of with "spam" bricks.
I don't usually post this crap, but this guy... *facepalm*
