i highly prefer earbuds. right now i have some cheap skullcandy after my apple earbuds were chewed in half by my cat. (they're 80 dollars and really nice, not the cheap hard plastic ones that came with your ipod. I hate those)

I have 4 gigs on my laptop. it's nice, I use a little over 1 gig for background programs (skype, itunes, and firefox) and usually another 1 or 2 for whatever game i'm playing or foreground application i've got up (Photoshop, usually)

I don't see why you'd need more than 3, I rarely ever get that high.
