General Discussion / Viral (MM style objective game)

I recently wanted to try making a game that involves VCE, and i tried experimenting with an idea called "viral", and so begins an idea so complicated and dubious most people will likely fail. Italicized text is for things i might implement, or just ignore if it conflicts with gameplay, and bold is something I'm not sure is possible with events.



Spawning
Game starts in an elevator with most people as scientists, and amid them are terrorists.
Scientists and terrorists both look the same, and both spawn in the same place with the same spawns.

Gameplay
Scientists must go about the level, completing tasks to create a "cure". Terrorists can also complete these tasks to look like scientists. Scientists must protect the strain, and create a cure before the terrorists escape with a sample.
Terrorists must deceive the scientists, blending in and acting innocent, and obtain this sample to commence a large scale attack somewhere or something.
The scientists have several well guarded samples throughout the labs, and require keys to access it. Terrorists must obtain these keys secretly and obtain the samples.

Map Details
Throughout the map are several gates (like metal detectors) that will detect the virus if you pass through infected. Otherwise nothing happens. Players can easily go around these gates, but this looks suspicious. If a gate is set off, will alert all other players (only telling the location). When an alert is tripped in a sector, all nearby alarm buttons will be available to witnesses for a few seconds, which will then tell everyone what player set off the alarm, auto win for scientists.
(Alert is just a basic area warning, and Alarm is a full on lockdown that ends the round.)

The Virus And You
Once a terrorist is infected, they can infect others to help escape. When you click another player, you transfer the disease to that player, without them knowing. This works on scientists as well, which can be used to spread distrust (inno can set off gates).  Terrorists must use teamchat to make sure nobody is unaware of what's brewing inside them.
The virus kills in the span of three to five days, with no immediate symptoms, so it's almost impossible to detect directly. This is why gates are useful.

Win Conditions
Scientists win by either setting off the alarm when a terrorist goes through a gate, or completing the cure.
Terrorists win by infecting themselves with the virus and getting to the elevator without setting off alarms.


This is what I've thought of so far, and i want to develop as much of it as possible. However, some of these things aren't possible with only VCE, so someone with coding experience may be needed. I try to host every now and again, so anyone can try out what I've got so far.
Constructive criticism and discussion is more than welcome, and I'd love if someone could help.
If this is successful enough, i'll put it into a gamemode for y'all to enjoy.

I made a tailor for SirSwagginton's CRPG.
It's got a full selection of clothing (except for running naked) and also has a home built on top of it.

The upstairs hallway, where the ladder in back goes up to. It's got vent access (in case of robbery, if I need to escape from crazed gunmen)


living/dining room with a view, with a table and chair, along with a single glass of water. No kitchen, because you can't store food in a CRPG.


bedroom, with a cabinet of clothing I could change into (all are free, which means anyone can get free clothes (and alerting me of it, too.)


The ladder and vent (The ladder doesn't do anything, so you'd need to corner-jump up here; think of it as a security measure.)

Any advice would be great, and ratings would be good, too.
This is also the first build i've ever done with vertical plates, so This may be kinda dependent on it.

Can anyone dive into the code for the botwars mod and get it to run again? Because it doesn't work with slayer, which is awful. I remember having a lot of fun with this, and I'd love to have it again.

This is stupid and likely has no reason to be questioned, but has anyone noticed that some of the diamonds on the left of the main forum dissapear? Does that mean something, or is it just how it loaded?

Can somebody PM me a .ms3d model of a standard blockhead (or at least a link?) for size reference? or at least a box that's roughly the size of a blockhead. I'm making a vehicle and i'm not sure how big is too big. That's all, folks!

Help / Game repeatedly crashing, don't know why.

Whenever i'm doing anything ingame, it crashes, usually along with an action (breaking a brick, jumping, entering or spawning a vehicle) It runs for a little bit perfectly fine, then out of nowhere, it immediately crashes. if anyone can help, that'd be awesome. Till then, this is basically unplayable.

There should be a client sided mod, activated by double tapping the freelook key, where when you stand still for about a second it automatically enables freelook, even in first person. When any movement keys are pressed, the camera is normal again.
(Optional: when you move, the avatar rotates to face forward where you were looking, looking too far brings your body to face 180° around) other people will see your head turn.
Essentially the camera system in Destiny
Yes? No? Impossible?

EDIT
This wouldn't happen when you're holding an item, so any DM won't have headturn.

I'm planning on making an elite-like server, and i want to have open space. only problem is that i don't have any ships to give players. If anyone could model a few space ships (I might even make you some of my own if it gets far enough) and help me get it ingame, that'd be awesome.
All it needs to be is Magic carpet physics, HCS and spaceship model. Seats can vary, but it must have guns.




For those that don't know, Elite was a completely open world game where you can take your space ship wherever you want, and dogfight/trade around the galaxy. you can jump between solar systems and dock at space stations. It started out as an old computer game with wireframe graphics, but now is being remade into Elite: Dangerous, which will be one of the biggest online multiplayer space games to date.

Hi, decided to make a FNAF Five Nights At Freddy's gamemode but I thought about how it would be done. The details aren't important, but i need a playertype that moves really fast(Jeep Fast), and has an energy bar that drains just long enough to move from one room to the next, and refills slow enough to keep them in place for a few seconds. Thanks!

Modification Help / [MS3D] Headup and Headside Animations

Hi, Trying to make my playertype and the headup animation is locked at either max up or max down. I used 25 frames for it, and two keyframes at each end. I don't know what direction it's telling me to do, and i don't know how many frames it should take (and what frames are for which angle). Can someone please explain what the hell is happening here? Should it be set to cyclic? Also how do i set headside?

Set headup animation to cycle. now it only bobs violently while it wags the tail. WHY?

Modification Help / Feral Hound playertype [MS3D]

Hi, first time really posting something on this forum, and i hope i don't mess it up too much. But I've recently started trying to make this:

inside of Blockland.
So far i've made the model itself, and attempted to put a skeleton on it (failed twice). but this is about what i've gotten so far:



I haven't managed to do any animations or skeletons yet, but it's going along well. been done!
In case anyone's wondering, I took inspiration from ArmyUnit's Bugs and MAS playertype designs.
feel free to rate x/10, and if anyone could package this when it's ready (or at least give advice on packaging) that'd be awesome.

Known Bugs:
  • 50% chance of crashing
  • Cannot change body color
UPDATES:
  • Now has a skeleton!
  • Forward run animation done, MS3D now crashing when i export the animations. So yeah...
  • Now Does tricks!
  • Finally able to export this thing, root was breaking it. Also, getting error messages in console when I try loading it manually. More animations done. How few can i get away with for a first test?
  • This model now enters the game! ...Only problem is it's on backwards. >.<

OPEN TO ADVICE!
This is going along really well, you people really know how to help a guy out!
