Creativity / (VIDEO) Azunyan Vector Trace Timelapse
« on: May 01, 2011, 01:09:12 AM »
Warning: Don't even bother going to this video if you hate anime/K-ON!. There's nothing interesting for you. In fact, just leave this topic right now.

As many of you know, I've taken an interest to tracing raster anime-related images and turning them into vector images using Inkscape, a free/open source vector image creation program, then rendering the new high-quality vector images and turning them into cool things, like backgrounds.

I thought to myself "Hey, why don't I create a timelapse video of me doing this?" and started working on a new background while recording myself.

This link is the result. Feedback is welcome. Also, for more info, read the video description.

Off Topic / Who needs Firefox 5 anyway?
« on: April 14, 2011, 05:15:25 PM »
For those of you who are "nightly" beta testers of Firefox, you might've noticed Minefield has updated today, from version 4.2 to 6.0, and renamed to "Nightly" with a new logo.

If not, then I can tell you that there's probably not going to be a Firefox 5 for whatever reason, 'cuz this is Firefox 6.

The question is, why did they skip Firefox 5, or will Firefox 5 still be version 6.0?

Stocking - Iban's Tool
バカツール

1. A "STEAMy" conversation
After Stocking joined the forums, I immediately hated her, but after a while, got over the fact that she put Japanese characters at the end of everything she says. Everybody was telling me to add her to STEAM, so I did. This is when something very fishy started happening.

After she went offline for a brief period of time after adding her, she came back onto STEAM. This is when she started showing a strong affection towards me, something which wasn't right at all. She was asking me things like "what sound I would make during love" and whatnot. Iban asked me the same question, which arose suspicion for me pretty quickly.

It wasn't very long before she plain out started to love roleplay. Of course, me not being every ridiculously horny friend out there, I told her simply "no". She asked why not, I told her that something isn't right. She tried to dismiss it, but I kept telling her no. She tried at least two more times to love roleplay after the first attempt, but I kept refusing.

This is when I told her that I'm done with this and removed her from STEAM, as well as blocked her.

2. Not even on the forums
As I'm sure quite a few of you have seen from posts like...

Miga you're in my house silly. Stop misleading people or they'll start to suspect that we're secretly engaged. Maho~
That's my fantasy, with all of them wearing Miga masks. マホ~
That's outrageously attractive the way you have Osaka's kowai expression, let's love right now. マホ~

Just to name a few. At this point, I was going insane because she was trying to find an excuse to respond to every single one of my posts, trying to make it sound like we were ever in love, and at this point, I basically excused her as being either insane, crazy, or both. After a while, I simply told her to stop in this topic. Since she continued, I took a leave which I was originally going to take for about a month until she was gone. It didn't last more than a day for a certain reason.

3. How Does It Feel to Be Iban's Tool?

It all started as a normal day, today did. Nothing was going on, just quiet. I then get a message from Clutchy, and he asked "Hey, are you and Stocking in love?" As stated earlier, I didn't love her, so I promptely responded with "No, but she is".

Pretty much after that, throughout the course of the day me and Clutchy were talking about this, and Clutchy was giving me messages showing what HE was saying. I noted in the quotes Clutchy was saying that she was trolling, and it honestly seemed as if she was, but I wasn't definite. Pretty much after a an hour or 2 the whole thing was pretty much over with.

Clutchy did "Troll" him every once in a while, causing him to block Clutchy. Later on, me and Clutchy weren't speaking often and he randomly starts going on about how he did something and he was the center of attention. I'm not really sure what was going on, but he was going off into saying he's the main problem and what not and I was out of the picture completely. It took until late late at night when this was all over, and I learned from Clutchy that Stocking never indeed loved me, and was just trolling me. Clutchy also stated she tried trolling him, but he said he knew all along and never got trolled.

At this point, Clutchy and I pretty much concluded that Stocking is indeed Iban's tool.

Iban - One Giant Toolshed
Using people to try and drive others away from the forums isn't autism, Iban.

All I really have to say to you Iban is, you really haven't changed. You're still the giant toolshed you were so many years ago, before you got banned. You're still using people, much like you tried to interrogate me to find someone who you were looking for by buying me World of Goo.

The fact that you were working with Stocking also arises suspicion that, as mentioned before, Stocking is indeed an alt and is probably even not a girl. Why would a 15 year old girl be working with an 18 year old girl? Something's not right here. At this point, as I hinted above, I'm claiming Stocking to be a guy.

tl;dr: Stocking is Iban's tool, Iban hasn't changed since he was banned so many years ago, Stocking probably isn't a girl.

Discussion is welcome.

If you saw the previous phone thread, my Touch Pro was close to dead.
Earlier today, it officially died.

R.I.P. Touch Pro; 2009-2011 sadfaec

Anyway, yeah. I need help choosing a new phone, and I need answers by tomorrow, cuz I need a new phone ASAP.

Here are some I've been looking at:

HTC ThunderBolt
Droid 2
Droid Incredible

I'm not limited to these three phones, they're just the three I took the most interest in. However, if you have a phone you think I'd like better, go ahead and post it, knowing the restrictions:

- Must run Android 2.2 or higher (I will not use WP7, so don't link to any phones running WP7).
- I prefer a QWERTY keyboard, however, touchscreen keyboards are fine as long as the screen's capacitive, not resistive
- Must be on Verizon.

I say "almost" because I was here before March 9th, back when the forums used phpBB, which ended up sucking.

Anyway yeah, six years of Miga, all on this forum. Crazy, isn't it?

Off Topic / Miga's IRC Chat | IDLE-AN GAEMSZ
« on: February 05, 2011, 06:58:20 PM »
Current IRC event: IDLE IDLE IDLE IDLE IDLE IDLE IDLE IDLE it's what IRC is abouttttt

So you're probably thinking to yourself "you know, it would be absolutely awesome if I could get ahold of Miga/others at any time and talk to them whenever!"

If not, well, you should be.

Anyway, this is more of an experiment than a full-fledged thing, just to see if anybody would actually be interested in using IRC instead of something like MSN or deviantART, mainly because I'm on IRC 24/7. It's not really meant to be a full-fledged chat where people are talking all the time, more so for people who want to be able to be contacted by others (or contact others).

So yes, if you're interested in making one giant chatroom where everybody can talk and all that, feel free to join.

I'm planning on getting a bot in there if enough people join, and if this actually ends up taking off (which would be pretty cool).

For those who are already familiar with IRC, here's the basic info to join:
Server: irc.esper.net
Room: #MigaNet

For full-fledged instructions on how to get IRC set up, as well as automation instructions (for X-Chat), check out my deviantART Journal Entry here: BEEP

There are some simple rules:
1. Don't spam.
2. Don't talk about/link to adult content.
3. No piracy discussion at all.
4. Don't piss me off.
5. Don't be an idiot, keep things intelligent.
6. Don't add bots unless I say you can. If I tell you to get rid of the bot, do so.

Failure to follow these rules will get you IP banned from the chat. I reserve the right to ban anyone for any reason I see fit.

Off Topic / Alienware M11x (Image Heavy?)
« on: December 30, 2010, 05:16:26 AM »
As of yesterday, I finally got my new laptop, which I've told a few people so far. If you haven't read the title for some stupid reason, it's an Alienware M11x laptop.

I wasn't originally going to post this topic (because I don't have a real camera, just a phone), but someone demanded pictures, so I took them using my phone, then decided to make the topic anyway. So, yeah, sorry for phone quality pictures.

It looks something like this:

And in the dark, looks something like this..! A note for you who aren't familiar with Alienware laptops, I made it so that the lighting changes depending on what application you're on. For example, on STEAM, the lighting is blue. On Minefield/Firefox, it's orange, and on Media Player Classic, it's a combination of orange, blue and green.

Size-wise, this thing is pretty tiny for a gaming laptop. I am generally impressed with the overall size of the thing. Here it is compared to my Asus Eee PC 701:

Since I custom ordered mine off of Dell's website, I chose to get the Silver one (what they call Lunar Shadow). The whole outside of the laptop has a really nice metal-feel.

And also since I ordered it directly off Dell's website...

Now that all the pictures are out of the way, let's talk specs, yes?

- Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 (1.3 GHz, overclockable)
- 4 GB DDR3 RAM at 800 MHz
- 320 GB HDD
- nVidia GeForce GT335m (1 GB VRAM) + Intel GMA 4500MHD
- 11.6" 1366x768 screen, looks really nice by the way
- Windows 7 Home Premium

Total cost of the machine was a nice $979.

The battery life on this thing is very impressive, with all the lighting on, while on Intel graphics, it estimated about seven hours of battery life. While on the nVidia card and while playing a game, it estimated around three hours. This is actually one of the very reasons I got the M11x.

And, overall, I'm very impressed with this thing. It runs everything on my STEAM library extremely well, and that's without even overclocking the processor.

So, yeah. If you want a small gaming laptop that isn't ridiculously huge to carry around, that's able to do quite a bit of gaming, get the M11x. Or, don't. I don't care, it's your decision.

Drama / "cookie monster" and "Cajsib"
« on: November 29, 2010, 01:45:11 AM »
Just something interesting I thought I'd share.
I was at the Phoenix Sky Harbor Intl. Airport a few days back, and I decided to browse the Blockland Forums.

This is the message I was greeted with:

I've never heard of these spam accounts before, but they both somehow managed to get the airport IP address banned. Anybody want to shed some light on what these two accounts did? All I know is that one account is from earlier this year (January), and the other is from sometime 2008.

And no, I'm not the one who did this. I'm just curious, not even sure if this belongs in drama or not.

Creativity / Abstractia (Continuation of old topic)
« on: November 23, 2010, 08:29:35 PM »
A continuation of the old topic (view here).

11/23/2010
I've decided to start working on this again partially, but I'm still a bit busy with schoolwork and all that, I may not make another background until sometime next year, unless I find time to squeeze another background in.

I've updated the license, again. It's more BSD-like now.

I made this new topic because the other one was too old to update.

This is Abstractia. As the name suggests, all the backgrounds in this pack will be abstract. I plan to make a minimum of at least five backgrounds for this pack. Ideas and suggestions are always welcome, feel free to post them.

Goal progress: 3/5

The Abstractia Background Pack 0.4 (ZIP):

This ZIP contains multiple varieties of both Abstractia One and Two, besides the two "standard" ones shown below.

Abstractia One:

Abstractia Two:

Abstractia Three:

I hereby release all backgrounds in the Abstractia name/pack under these licenses:
Abstractia License
ERRORs United Public License
GNU General Public License

By using these backgrounds, you agree to at least one of the above license agreements.
You may choose the license of your choice.

Off Topic / Drivers Ed/Miga's Rant 1+2
« on: November 21, 2010, 06:03:22 PM »
Christ.

Today, I had Drivers Ed from 7 AM to 4 PM (9 hours). Keep in mind that this was on a Sunday, and I barely got over 4 hours of sleep. Anyway, yeah, I passed and all that, I can get my permit now, but there's some things which just loving piss me off.

#1: In-N-Out Burger
During lunch (which is an hour long), we were told that there was an In-N-Out burger that we could go to (along with a bunch of different restaurants and fast food places around). So, being unfamiliar with this part of town (Scottsdale), I decide to use Google Maps on my phone to try and find it. Bad loving choice. My phone gave the most complex directions ever, took me nearly 20 minutes to walk there, only to find out that it was right across the street the whole time. Halfway there, it starts raining. Anyway, I get there, and the place starts getting very crowded (after I order, mind you). So, I end up waiting for 20 minutes for my order, leaving me with 20 minutes left, making me have to grab my order and run back across the street so that I would have enough time to eat at the place where Drivers Ed is at, while it's still raining. So, after I get there, I finally bite into my delicious cheeseburger, and despite everything...

They left the sauce, which I absolutely hate, on. $6 and an hour lunch down the drain, no way to go back so they could correct my order.

#2: After Drivers Ed
So, I finally get home after the tedious day, thinking to myself that I can finally just enjoy what's left of this day. Wrong.

First thing I'm told to do is take out the trash, next, being forced to do a whole bunch of chores, doing things that could at least wait until tomorrow, when I don't have to go to a nine hour class, when I actually won't mind doing it, but no, it had to be done now. Honestly, this just pisses me off so badly.

This "Drivers Ed" class was supposed to be my "reward" for getting good grades too, which is absolutely laughable.

Discuss I guess.

Off Topic / Well forget, my 360 is breaking again. [Update] [Video]
« on: September 16, 2010, 03:10:25 AM »
As many of you know, I got a 360 about 5 months ago. When I got it, it had a pretty huge Red Ring of Death issue (3-rings), and I could only get it to work for a short amount of time by overheating it, then letting it cool down. Well, 5 months ago, I did a so-called "permanent" fix to the thing. It worked very well, I never saw the RRoD again...until yesterday. My brother was playing my 360, when he came and told me to "check out the 360, it's not looking too good". So, I went out and looked at it, and the screen was frozen and covered in a purple-checkerboard overlay. I turn it off, power it back on, and low and behold...the Red Ring of Death again.

I got it to work again by overheating it, which is the last step I had to do when I performed the "permanent" fix, but I have a feeling it may not last long.

Anyway, so what should I do? Should I keep it and hope for the best, or sell it and get the new "slim" 360?
I could probably get nearly ~$100-150 for the thing if I sold it, seeing as how I've customized it quite a bit.

Update: Here's a video. It died again.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBzLTkqsIBY

Second Update:
Alright, update.
I took it apart, tightened all the screws, made sure everything was in order, put it back together partially, turned it on and it still had the RRoD, error code 0102.

So, as of 4:30 AM, I declare my 360 as "dead". I'm going to be selling it and putting most (if not all) of the money towards buying a new XBox 360 S (the "slim" one).

Ah well.

So, poll's closed, I have no choice, I can't keep my awesome 360.

Off Topic / WORST. DAY. EVER.
« on: July 22, 2010, 04:08:31 PM »
Alright, so:

Yesterday, I decided to get a new case for my PC (as the one I had was giant and I wanted to make it more compact), so as I'm taking it apart, I discover something lying on the floor: a capacitor. The only place it could've come from is the motherboard. Still, I keep going, in hopes that I'm still able to get it to work without a capacitor. As I'm putting the PSU in, I accidentally slip and cause the PSU to fall...right into my laptop's screen, cracking it. So, after I finish up, I plug my recased PC in, expecting the worst...it works!

It worked all of last night with no signs of anything breaking, until this morning. I go to get on my PC, hit the power button and see the hard drive light flash, then nothing. I look inside and see that the green light on the motherboard is still lit, and then I try to turn it on again. Nothing. I remove all power (power cable, CMOS battery, etc) and put the motherboard into "recovery mode", turn it on, again, the fans barely spin and the hard drive light comes on, then nothing.

So now, I basically have a laptop with a cracked screen and a broken desktop PC, and I'm stuck using my Eee PC.
