Off Topic / Do NOT go to Destructoid (the website).
« on: July 18, 2010, 07:35:12 PM »
I just got a loving virus (for the first time in years). Now, I'm on my Linux laptop freaking out quite a bit over what happened.

It started when I was looking up some article (I don't remember what it was, but that's besides the point). I went to Destructoid (which is usually a good website), Avast made the "Warning" sound, then crashed, saying "Avast has stopped working", my PC started slowing down, and I quickly hit the "reset" button on my PC and shut it down.

I reported the site as malicious, and I recommend not going to there, even if you have any form of virus protection (Firefox + Adblock, NoScript; Avast; it got past all of this stuff. Whatever "it" may be, I don't know yet.)

Yes, so I was bored, and I was streaming Kirby 64... 'nuff said.

Visit my channel, aka "NO GO AWAY."

Also, post suggestions of what I should stream later.

First off, I don't even have any Visa card or ANY card for that matter, and second off...

I'm not the only one getting this EXACT SAME MESSAGE with the EXACT SAME CARD NUMBER.

So why do I keep getting these stupid scam attempts? This is the second one I've gotten now in a month, after getting absolutely none of this crap for the three years I've owned my phone. And no, I don't just randomly give out my info all over the internet, I'm not stupid like that.

The first one was a number that kept calling 7-8 times a day, I eventually called them and told them to stop calling, and they have.

Discuss, and feel free to call the number if you dare, I guess.

This is the laptop I'm going to be getting over the summer. Total cost is $849.
It will be replacing my HP nx9110 laptop.

Specs:

Yeah I know, it has a Pentium processor, but honestly, $849 is about the max I'll be able to earn over the summer. I may or may not be able to upgrade to the Core 2 Duo processor.

I want a laptop with good battery life and good performance, as well as kickass looks, and this machine has it.

Creativity / Abstractia Background Pack - COLOR PACK RELEASED
« on: April 17, 2010, 04:49:05 PM »
Abstractia
Now comes in a variety of colors!

4/24/2010
I've been too busy to do much else background-wise. I've also run out of some ideas recently. But, to make up for the time that I won't have many backgrounds released, I've released "Abstractia Background Pack 0.4", which is the same two backgrounds I've already released, but in different colors. Abstractia One comes in 14 different varieties, while Abstractia Two comes in two different varieties.

If you want to help out, send me a PM of what you'd like to see in my next background. You'll be added to the "Thanks" list in the next version of the Abstractia Background Pack.

I've also updated the license.

This is Abstractia. As the name suggests, all the backgrounds in this pack will be abstract. I plan to make a minimum of at least five backgrounds for this pack. Ideas and suggestions are always welcome, feel free to post them.

All backgrounds after Abstractia Two will be a higher resolution, by request.

Goal progress: 2/5

The Abstractia Background Pack 0.4 (ZIP):

Abstractia One:

Abstractia Two:

I hereby release all backgrounds in this pack under this license:

Off Topic / Score, I got an XBox 360 for $20.
« on: April 15, 2010, 10:19:29 PM »
So, my friend's had his XBox 360 (Halo 3 edition) for a long time, about three years. It never RRoD'd once, until yesterday. It started freaking out, showing various signs of being broken (blue screen, 3-ring RRoD, and just not showing any picture at all.) So, he went out and bought another one, and said that he'd give me his "non-functioning" one for $20. So, I accepted, seeing as how I could probably tinker around inside the thing and fix it. He even threw in a wireless controller and all the wires needed for free. So, as soon as I got home, I plugged it in to see the problem for myself. It turned on, then stopped working after the XBox logo, about a minute or two after it (sometimes it can't even get past the boot screen.) Then, every time I tried to turn it on, RRoD, 3 LED. So, I tried the simplest things first. I unplugged everything, dusted everything off, cleaned the contacts off, and tried it again. It started to work yet again, and I've been using it for about an hour now, no crashes or RRoD's.

So, I just basically got a $20, Halo 3 Edition XBox 360. Hells yes.
Ninjaedit: I just realized this should probably be in Games. Oh well, it can be moved if needed.

Games / .kkrieger - The 95 KB FPS
« on: March 20, 2010, 03:43:20 AM »
Main Website

Nobody's ever posted a link to this before. Basically, it's an FPS made by a group of PC demo-scene guys. Now, what's so special about an FPS? First, it looks really nice (see the website for screenshots), second, it plays pretty well (considering it's a beta), and third...it's 95 KB.

Yes, I kid you not. 95 KB, everything in one executable.

Minimum Specs:
A 1.5GHz pentium 3 / athlon or faster.

512MB of RAM.

a GeForce4Ti (or higher) or ATI Radeon8500 (or higher) graphics card supporting pixel shaders 1.3, preferably with 128MB or more of VRAM.

some kind of sound hardware.

DirectX 9.0b.

Want to see it for yourself?
Download it.
Certain Anti-Malware programs may pick it up as "Malware.Packer", it's a false call.

Off Topic / Vista Sound Mixer Problem
« on: March 10, 2010, 03:21:50 AM »

This is basically what my sound mixer looks like. Basically, it's showing the wrong font for most programs (but switches back to the font that's supposed to be there if the program title switches, example: STEAM). There's also the problem of the random grey/black boxes around the adjusters (which, for some reason, two appear)

This is what it's supposed to look like.

Anybody know any way to fix this?
Serious answers only please, I'm not taking "Switch to Windows 7" as an answer, I'm not starting clean either (since this is a clean install).

Off Topic / Windows 7 RC Build 7100 - Warning!
« on: March 01, 2010, 08:10:43 PM »
My PC (which was supposed to expire a few hours ago) just shut down.
I thought this was because of the "shutdown hell" thing (where it will shut down repeatedly every 2 hours), but instead, I try to boot it back up, and get a "Missing Operating System" error from my BIOS.

Basically, if you're still running Windows 7 Build 7100 (RC), expect this to happen to you, don't expect to be able to use it after yours expires.

If I didn't have an external HDD from my ThinkPad with Ubuntu on it, I would pretty much be screwed.

Drama / Massive Blockland Player MSN Conversations
« on: December 29, 2009, 09:16:33 PM »
Seriously, people need to stop with this stuff. I (and plenty of others) don't want to be in the massive BL player conversations that happen almost every day. I'm trying to do something more important than having to deal with the sound of MSN going off like crazy in a fullscreen program that I have to exit out of in order to close the stupid conversation window. It wouldn't be so bad if people were making sense, but 100% of the time the conversation is just spam and people being annoying, and I've been blocking people from my MSN in hopes to stop myself from getting forced into a conversation that I don't want to be in. Stop with it.

Off Topic / My phone just fried itself, help me choose a new one.
« on: December 29, 2009, 05:37:14 PM »
An average day, where something always breaks on me...
Anyway, my HTC Touch Pro was working fine yesterday, then when I went to turn it on today, I saw a line on the screen, and a small amount of smoke coming out of the phone. Of course, I quickly took out the battery, and haven't touched it since, but it's safe to say it's fried.

Luckily, I'm in a position where it's easy to get money (by selling computers), so I want some suggestions on what to get for my next phone.
The only requirement is that it's from Verizon (Alltel).

I'm having this issue that makes no sense whatsoever. When I try to set a PNG background on Windows 7 (the same apparently happens with Vista), it converts it to a noticeably lower-quality JPEG. Is there any way to stop it from doing this? I've looked on Google to no avail (everything I've searched comes up with just backgrounds for Windows Vista/Windows 7, or random topics about Compiz Fusion for Linux...) so I'd appreciate if anybody knew how to make Windows Vista/7 force PNG's as backgrounds. Thanks.

Off Topic / My ferret just died.
« on: December 21, 2009, 10:00:25 PM »
About 15 minutes ago, she was found dead, next to my other ferret (who is fine).
She was an albino ferret, had red eyes, looked exactly like a slice of bread when I got her (in her colors).
She was, for that reason, named Bread.

Off Topic / Which laptop should I ask to get for Christmas?
« on: December 10, 2009, 05:02:03 PM »
I'm stuck between battery life and performance here. I dunno which one I should get, so I guess you shall decide. Both of them cost $599, one has good performance, one has good battery life.

ASUS UL20A-A1
12.1" 1280x800
Core 2 Duo SU7300 1.3 GHz
250 GB HDD
2 GB DDR2
Intel GMA 4500MHD
6-Cell battery with about 7 hours of battery life

Or...

ASUS K50AB-X2A
15.6" 1366x768
AMD Turion X2 RM-75 2.2 GHz
320 GB HDD
4 GB DDR2
ATi Mobility Radeon 4570 w/ 512 MB GDDR2 VRAM
6-Cell battery with about 1-2 hours of battery life

It's up to you, I honestly can't make up my choice. Choose my laptop for me.
Poll will run for only one day.

Oh, I should mention that I need this for school, but I want to also use it to be able to play some modern games.
