I custom built my own PC not too long ago, and now I'm saving up for a Lenovo IdeaPad netbook.

I'd recommend this PSU if you wanted to upgrade. Free shipping and mail-in-rebate more than make up for the additional cost (PSUs are heavy and cost a lot to ship).

There are a lot of other reasons to choose a Corsair PSU such as: a single 12v+ rail, cleaner power, higher quality components and more efficiency.

Here's the valid reason for your power supply:
You're gonna have a nice, powerful computer that's gonna crash every time you play a game on it, because it won't have enough wattage.

And, for upgrading the OS, all Windows Home Basic is really is just a weighed down version of Windows XP. It has nothing special to it, and you'd be better off with XP. It takes less space, runs so much better...

I had 100mb left on my 40gb drive at one point.

Also, I had 0 bytes left on my mp3 player. Exactly 0.

You could always check Windows Firewall to make sure it's not blocked, and possibly restart your router.
