You cannot just walk into the city, shoot down hordes of zombies and go get some chips at walmart, chances are everybody is infected if you aren't. It's easier to protect one secluded area and seal it off instead of constantly be on the move. Once zombies lost interest in you, make a quick escape with your car. And remember, you cannot shoot a gun and drive a car at the same time. And unless your car is moving, the zombies cannot get you; so go to the garage and get as many gas canisters as you can.
