Not really any huge advantage, it just allows you to get the move earlier on in the evolution tree. Blastoise learns Hydro Pump at 52, whereas Squirtle learns it at 42.

wouldn't its stats take a hit

crashed due to a gamemode related bug about a brickgroup
probably should've grabbed the console.log but it didn't cross my mind until now

it's back up tho
