BP didn't take the proper precautions and regulations on the oil rig were not met, so when something went wrong, there were no safe guards to stop this from happening. It is completely BP's fault, and the fact they were paying investors and themselves before even setting aside a fund for the families and businesses that are and going to be harmed by the oil spill, was irresponsible and I am glad the US government did something about that. And if you are going to state a fact, never use the phrase "according to the press".I agree with what you are saying, although; I'm just saying many people are over dramatizing the problem. Yes, this is a tragedy. Yes, it could of been prevented. Yes, it will devastate wildlife for many, many years to come. Yes, the government is doing the right thing by intervening. And, I completely agree that BP should of taken better precautions. As to your remark on my saying, "According to the press," I was not stating that something that the press said was a fact, quite the contrary as any news source is going to be biased, I was stating that the press is blowing the disaster out of proportion.
Just to recap; this is a major disaster yes. And it could of been prevented with stronger safety regulations. I am not saying it is not a big deal, just that the press is making a lot more fuss about it then is necessary.
Read my post, this isn't the apocalypse for the whole world, but it could be an enormous economical hit to cities that are bordering the gulf coast. So for most of America, it isn't a big deal, but people that rely on the gulf coast are potentially in big trouble right now.Yes. I see that this would be very harmful for the people in that area. And yes it is BP's fault. And, I am aware that they are trying to fix it, and I know that it is difficult for them. I do see this as very, very important for the people in this area. What I'm annoyed with is the people who seem to think that the ocean is now 5% BP oil.
BP is trying to stop it, but this is a difficult engineering problem, so they're having a hard time with it. It's BP's fault for getting us into this mess, but I really don't think anyone is really able to just 'fix it.' So BP probably is doing a better job then most other people would be able to do, it just isn't enough.
Back to your post, I'm just saying people are possibly losing their way of life. That's why the media is making a big deal out of it, and I think that is a good reason, read my long post up above for more info.
What I'm trying to say is, the media should get some facts straight instead of freaking out. That would help inform the public instead of just making them think "BP has doomed us all and should be shot!" Not saying these are any of your views. I have been following the problem since the begining. I should of been more sensitive to the people majorly affected to the spill's views though.

Just that it is being over exaggerated. According to the press, as far as I can tell, it is the apocalypse and BP is doing nothing at all to stop it.

In my opinion, the whole BP oil spill is being highly exaggerated by the press. Although don't get the wrong idea, I do believe it is a problem. Just not as much as most are making it out to be.
