t;dr
1. it's how drama works because badspot hardly gives half a stuff beyond the most mechanical to-the-letter interpretations of his own rules so we have to govern ourselves
2. showing him his actions have lingering consequences dissuades him from behaving poorly (or just coming back at all) in the future
3. bonding time for us because we're human and those do that

Really can't understand the mob mentality against this dude, sure he did some bad stuff no doubt; but he's done. Why continue harping about him?
Done as in he's gone now, whether he learns from his mistakes who knows; might take some pure just getting older for that. People typically drop their dumb stuff once they balls up a little
there are several reasons

for one, badspot's lax policies means that, for anything immoral/unacceptable that doesn't fall under the purview of actually getting banned from using the forum itself, the community basically has to socially ostracise people in order to self-moderate, since we don't really have any other tools.  it's the entire reason that the drama board exists -- to discuss, and warn other users about, problem people in the community and what to do with them.  it's far from perfect, but it's how this forum manages itself, since community control isn't directly possible unless either rot and komp decide to go above and beyond to ban legitimately awful people or badspot himself decides he needs to give slightly more of a stuff about his community

it's a lot to do with the first point but i figured this was a strong enough point to be seperate: a continued discussion of what he's done so far serves to remind him that we still know who he is, and what he's done.  knowing that your reputation can never be repaired is an important step to maturing as a human being; while that isn't our obligation, per se, obviously a person who's destroyed their reputation still needs to see that their reputation is destroyed.  knowing that tends to be enough for a good number of at least somewhat sane people to think "this is not a place that i feel welcome."  again, not perfect at all -- we have plenty of problem users who don't give a stuff about feeling welcome, their whole point of being here is to be the opposite (as antagonistic as possible), but people tend to act as if dealing with people, not grossly distorted facsimiles of people.

and last, but not least,
attention
because people secretly enjoy drawn out stufffits in drama despite acting like they don't
we human beings like to feel vindicated and empathised with; we bond over the things we hate.  not inherently a good thing, of course, but that's human nature.

oftentimes i used to feel similar to how you do whenever i made mistakes and bad decisions and was an starfish, and just continuously got called out for it when i wanted to move on.  still do, sometimes.  i realise now, though, that the real reason people do that (besides this very point in action) is because not everyone can, or wants to, move on after the initial outcast.  plenty of people get the wrong idea and return because they feel wronged in some warped way, or simply have an overpowering desire for revenge.  plenty more still just don't learn, or just don't care.  it serves as a warning that you don't get easy one-and-done "punishments" for being an starfish -- the repercussions have to linger, like a scar exactly where you left it.  you can't just come back to the same community, even if you have truly changed for the better, and expect that community to welcome you with open arms.  learning to accept that and build upon the reputation you have now is an important lesson in life.

At least what edd is doing is a bit the others are doing it unironically
just because a joke isn't funny doesn't make it not intended to be a joke

Off Topic / Re: isn't thomas the tank engine public domain?
« on: February 21, 2019, 08:09:56 AM »
Assuming you're just playing it in the background of something else you're doing or putting the theme to your own visuals, it should most likely count as transformative under Fair Use regardless of who owns the copyright to the song.  The current copyright holder to Thomas the Tank Engine and his theme is Hit Entertainment, owned by Mattel.

You can appeal copyright claims on your videos in your video manager, after which the copyright holder has 30 days to retract its claim or deny your appeal.  Should your appeal be denied and you still believe that the claimant doesn't own the copyright they're claiming from your video, you can file a counter-notification with Youtube.  Even if you're still using copyrighted work, you should be able to file a counter-notification for false claims if the claimant isn't the real copyright holder.

most demos i've seen use it as a crutch
they just walk towards an enemy and diarrhea a load of bombs everywhere so they don't have to worry about aiming bc the splash damage has him covered
honestly if you do this you might as well play pyro lol
you have to detonate the bombs for them to be effective.  the pipe launcher detonates immediately on collision.  a demo using the sticky launcher as his primary and doing well with it is a good demo to me, just as much as one that can reliably land pipes
pyro is as hated as they are because their flamethrower is instant free damage for looking in a vague direction and holding m1.  not comparable

the real punch of demoman actually comes from the sticky launcher.  it's even more difficult to use, considering it's a mine layer and therefore requires you to be adept at leading targets where you want them to go, but the amount of damage it does when used correctly is absolutely jawdropping.  plus you can detonate stickies mid-flight, so you get a decent amount of damage options (especially with the quickie.  it gets stuff on a lot from what i see and honestly, i feel it's better than people give it credit for)

what the nade launcher also has over, say, solly's rocket launchers is that all of demo's nade launchers shoot fast, and the pipes are a lot harder to see in a firefight than a big rocket with lots of particles coming out of it.  the firespeed is afaik a little faster than most of solly's rocket launchers (save the air strike and beggar's) so if you understand pipe physics, you can deal that 300 damage a lot faster than you think.

Wow, knocked his ass into typing like a human being.
/support
well, almost.  he still has to riddle every paragraph with at least one dismissive jab like "ok chief" etc. but hey we'll take any improvement

ot: to be honest, every time i've come into prolonged contact with celau (i've been invited to schmucks before, about twice -- could have been an earlier server before schmucks but i don't remember that anymore) i've always become frustrated and uncomfortable with him.  i never really had anything that truly justified calling him out or w/e, i just didn't like his personality or sense of humour, but i can see now why i got so many red flags after spending more than a couple of minutes with the guy.  left both (or so) times after getting into a fight over something i didn't agree with.  i think.

i think what really does it for me, though, is how he genuinely defended kidalex's obsessive, toxic personality (specifically, he detailed that kidalex is, ironically enough, just a kid with mental issues trying to fit in on the blockland forums) when i talked about it to him at a time when we happened to both be playing on a freeze-tag server.  this isn't in the OPs since i'm p sure drydess wasn't actually there for that conversation, but i suppose now i can see why he would choose to defend kidalex of all people when pretty much every interaction between kidalex and almost any other user even remotely related to BLF was borne solely out of malice for his own entertainment.  birds of a feather, i guess.

i was never in the loop for most of this stuff, considering i've pretty much tried to soft-avoid the guy for the past year or two, but i'm thankful that now i know the full extent of what's going on behind celau and a little bit of why everything around him seems to be embroiled in drama.  thanks for posting this

... So i'll ride it out, and lament 20 years later when i'm still here and everyone else is gone.
you will be gone before the trash personalities that have plagued this place for the last decade even think about moving on to a different forum, let's be honest
